I had the same debate as you and ended up buying the SA instead of the Gucci ones… best decision ever! The are so comfortable when I walk, and they look literally the same when you wear them. Also, they both inevitably will chip/wear/etc and you would have to get them re soled, painted or repaired… so the cost of maintaining them is better for the Sam Edelman ones.
The backs of those Gucci are meant to give the option to fold down like a slipper so that’s why they are wrinkled. I think you meant to buy the other style.
Yes you’re right. The back is always wrinkled right off the bat. The leather is a bit softer and “ worked” in back so they fold down better. I prefer the Gucci Princeton mules.
Yes I’m aware the soft backs are meant to be folded down if you want to wear them as mules. However the ones that I saw on display at the stores did not have wrinkles like this. I believe these were worn previously and then returned. I will try again.
@@hellocatwalkcity they do look extra wrinkled. It’s frustrating when you can’t find what you want in store and are forced to order online. Quality control is definitely getting more difficult. Also, the concept of the convertible style is nice but it’s definitely a “look”. I feel better in the Princetown mule, which seems more elongating.
I am so curious about this video….I got the Cole Haan sneakers after you mentioned it and I love them….I am considering the SA loafers for quite some time now so this video is just on time
Definitely try the size 38. My Gucci loafers stretched out and conformed to my feet. I went with the 37 vs 37.5 because the heel was slipping out with the 37.5. I find the wrinkles a sign of high quality leather. It doesn’t bother me. 😊
Thank you! I will definitely try the size 38! The wrinkles do bother me because I didn’t see any wrinkles on the loafers that were on display in the stores. I know it will wrinkle with wear but I don’t love that they came out of the box that way.
I love loafers! They are exactly what you said, polished. They are a more polished alternative to sneakers with jeans or sandals/flats with a dress. I think you will love them!
I love loafers, and I particularly love all my Gucci loafers! I have wide feet. I think it is polished but comfortable look. As others have mentioned, the Brixton back is supposed to be supple in case you wanted to convert to mule. I’m personally team Gucci but that is also because they work for me so well. In fact, I think I will wear a pair today!
So funny I was never a loafers girl until now! I can see why so many people wear them. They definitely pull an outfit together. I’m going to try the Gucci ones in a half size down and see how they fit. These are too loose and clearly not in new condition. The wrinkles really took me aback because the ones I saw in store on display looked so much nicer.
I like the Sam Edelmans on you. They are more feminine looking and seem to fit your feet better. Plus it makes more sense to go with the less expensive pair since you don’t know how much you will wear them.
Wow I’m surprised how much I like the Gucci ones better 😭 I was so ready to say I like the slimmer look of the SE ones but I like that the Gucci ones land higher up on the foot.
It's interesting and encouraging to know that shoes made in China can be validated by someone as picky about luxury items as you. I bought a bag that looks exactly like a Hermes Bolide but made in China, and about one-one hundredth of the Hermes price, but actually, there doesn't seem to be much difference between the two! I like the design of the Bolide bag but I don't think it's worth paying such a high price for a plain, simple looking bag (although I do really like the design). I think your video proves that we are paying an extreme premium just for the brand name, when the same quality can be attained by a much lower price point.
You should try the Gucci Jordaan loafers instead. I wasn't planning on wearing the backs folded down, so I prefer the stiffer shape of the Jordaans. They are one of my best purchases--I can walk miles in them. Return the Brixtons and get the Jordaans.
On the Gucci ones… get the 8. I promise they will stretch a bit and fit perfect. I also wear a thin lace no show sock and it stops the farting noise. Maybe try wearing a pair with the 8.5 Gucci pair and they will help with the slipping. Lol I love my Gucci loafers. I have the Sam Edelman ones too and I love those as well. But the Gucci ones definitely elevate a look. I have the Gucci ones in the pink color and the Sam Edelman in black and red.
@@hellocatwalkcity can’t wait to see! Also if you’re wanting a more structured loafer… try the Jordan’s not the Brixton. They look just like the Brixton but with a more solid heel like the Sam Edelman. So less heel wrinkles. Hehe… ☺️😉
The Sam Edelman loafers look prettier and more feminine. I have them in a similar style that they made a few years ago without any hardware and I love them so much I ended up getting a backup pair! I love loafers and I’ve tried/own quite a few different ones, these are high up on my faves list.
WOW the Gucci's arrived quickly! Being wide of foot, I'd be happy to swap with you any day of the week, Hannah! Most brands only cater for narrow feet so I tend to get excited about something only to not be able to get it on! They both look great on you, but I do prefer the Gucci, the leather is fabulous quality which is why you're getting that little wrinkle straight off. LOVE THEM! TFS, I really enjoyed this, especially because you were sceptical going in! 🤗💕
Get the Gucci loafers in a 1/2 size smaller because they will stretch since the leather is so soft. Also wear a no show footie sock for comfort and to eliminate noises. You might like the Jordaan a little better than the Brixton too if you feel the leather for this style is too soft. The leather back of the Brixton is meant to fold down so that you can wear them like a mule. I have a pair of Jordaan and Princetown. The leather wrinkles but that’s normal because of the softness.
Thank you so much for the comparison! I already have Sam Edelman sandals and I trust their quality, would love to buy these but Zappos doesn't have my size right now in black. I put my name on the waitlist though. I liked the look of those a bit better, though the Gucci ones were beautiful as well (but $900, ouch). The SE ones come in so many colors -- I liked the nude and the blue croc too!!
The Gucci Jordaan loafers don’t fold down on the heals but they are much more structured and will definitely grip your heals. I’ve had them for several years, they are true to size. The Sam Edelman ones are good for every-day wear in NYC, and I would suggest swapping the Gucci ones to the Jordaan styles.
I have the Gucci loafers and they are comfortable. I use no show socks with all my shoes (not sandals, of course). This style of Gucci is a loafer that can also be worn as.a mule….It’s a preference. Like buying a designer sneaker vs contemporary brand. It’s what you’re comfortable with.
Old man shoes and farting feet! 😂😂😂 The SE look great on you. I have had my Gucci loafers for a few years now. I wear them so much I’ve had them resoled once already. Definitely feel like I’ve gotten my cost per wear. Been wanting to get another pair, but might try the SE - I like the idea of the cushioning. Thanks for the in depth review!
Farting shoes are a no no! 😂 But I hear sizing down may help so I will try that. So good to know that you’ve had yours for years and they’re holding up well!
I have the Gucci jordaan loafers, they don’t have the wrinkles at the back. They are very comfortable and I think you would love them. They are very well made. I needed to size down a whole size.
I have 2 pairs of Sam Edelman loafers, they are very comfortable and look great with jeans and blazer, or white button down shirt. I also walk a lot and use orthotics for extra cushion/arch support if I plan to wear them all day. Also I only buy designer shoes for formal wear, tough to justify the price if they will get destroyed by cobblestone in a month:)
I want them BOTH 😂 I’ve loved loafers ever since HS (5 years ago for me) . I’m starting my Gucci journey right now, so I’m saving up for a bag. I’m going to get the Sam edelman loafers first! Gucci loafers are definitely a must buy for me this next year. ❤
If you love Cole Haan sneakers you’ll love their Loafers. I have a ton of their loafers from their driver line. They’re the most comfortable loafers I’ve worn. I can walk around the city in them and not get blisters. Quality is great (as you know Cole Haan quality is superb). I think you’ll love them. All my Gucci shoes need breaking in. The Cole Haan loafers don’t need time to break in. Thanks for the review view. You’re always detailed and provide helpful information.
Ohh I haven’t tried any Cole Haan loafers! Now you have me curious… 😂 Although if you watched my updated video, I’m really enjoying the Gucci Brixtons! No break in time, luckily. Thanks!
This was a fun comparison video 💕 And I’m not even in the market for loafers because they always slip off regardless of the style/brand due to my narrow ankles 😝 I think loafers look and fit best on people with slim elegant feet like yours 😊 I like the way the SE’s looked on your feet, and I think a caramel color would also look nice on you!
The Gucci's are size 38.5 - that is not size 8.5, they would be 39 if they were. You have a size 8 in both, although different brands size 8 can always vary.
I actually don’t like the metal links on the Sam Edelman loafers. But I love coach’s Haley loafers. It’s beautiful and so soft. If your fall in love with the loafers after trying these two, then please try the Haley!
Love both on you, but understand the choice you made completely. I wasn’t sure about the loafer style either and bought the Sam Edelman 4 years ago. I’ve worn them so so much, so last year I added the Jordaan loafers to my wardrobe. I still wear both, but now prefer the Gucci ones over the Sam Edelman. They do need some breaking in, especially when you have a high arch, but now they are the cosiest shoes I have 😃 so both are big winners to me!
I ordered the Gucci loafers again with a half size down based on many viewers’ suggestions… and I’m eager to try them out! I will do an updated video soon! Thank you!
I hate it when shoes make noise, I returned some Chanel sandals that I was so excited about because they made a wet kiss sound when I walked. I think the bottom edge of your jeans look good with the strings. Both of the shoes are attractive, I definitely agree with your choice.
I can’t pull off this look unfortunately that’s why I op for the Princeton ones! But the wrinkles are just the leather and they can also be worn with the backs pushed down so they’ll wrong irregardless ): I prefer the look of the Guccis though
Love this comparison video! You may also want to try them with socks on. I saw people wear these loafers with black socks and ankle jeans, which looks chic! If you like that style, you should leave some room for the socks, plus, this way you get to wear them in colder months! Thanks for the video!
If you are starting a new shoe journey down the loafer path, you might want to try M. Gemi. I’m not a loafer girl either, but can’t do heels anymore. I fell for the snakeskin Sacca Donna’s. Really nice, Italian made, at about $250. 😀
I absolutely LOVE the Sam Edelman!!! I bought the black last year and this year I had to get them in the toasted coconut. If you end up liking and keeping them I think you’d also love the toasted coconut, knowing you love that type of color as much as I do. BTW, both the Guccis and the SEs have collapsible backs (where the seams are) so, if you choose to, you can wear them kind of like mules. I don’t bc I don’t want to ruin the shoes but that’s probably why the backs of the Guccis are wrinkled. It looks to me like someone tried them on that way
I was looking at that color!! Hehe you know my obsession with that color! Good to know about the collapsible backs but I’m like you - I don’t intend to wear them folded down. I prefer my heels covered. Thank you!
I love Sam Edeleman shoes so I was going to get these, but then I saw that Coach has a pair on their outlet site for less so that's basically sold me on one over the other.
Honestly I have a pair of the black Sam Edelman loafers and wore them out. Good quality and worth the price compared to the Gucci ones although I do love those too. I just ordered a beige one sam Edelman ones because it’s a little more feminine. We’ll see how the they look in person. 🤷♀️
This is such a good review I have been looking at both for ages. And like you I am not a loafer person. The Sam Edelman ones are not as long in the top front, where the chain detail is so more of your foot shows giving a more feminine look. Go with the SE and if u wear them a lot then u can revisit the Gucci ones. About unboxings, of course it’s up to you but me personally I like detailed reviews. To be honest though this unboxing was very thorough, like a review. Thanks 🌹
I wore loafers a lot when I was younger and am going back to them now. I have the Sam Edelman in gold and yes they’re very comfortable. I will upgrade to Gucci once mine die. I have an Aerosole too in black
I was never a fan of dad’s loafers or flats in general. I feel that I look short when I wear flats. I like flats on tall girls. 😁 Great comparison though. Size 38 in Gucci would feel better for you because the leather is soft and they won’t feel tight/small after a couple of wears. That’s just my opinion. ❤️
Dad loafers 😂 I know what you mean! I was never a fan of loafers either… until now!!! You’re right - many people here are saying I should try the Gucci ones in size 38. I will do that and see how it goes! Thank you!
The Cole Haan sneakers are amazing! I also love the loafer look. I feel so smart and preppy when I style them with an outfit. 🤓 Both loafers look great on you!
I love Sam Edelman Loraine loafers. I have three pair and I have very wide feet. They are super comfortable and I just don't feel the need to spend so much money on the Gucci loafers. I also have sandals and Chelsea boots by SE and love them too 😍 ❤ 💕
Which ones are you considering - Gucci or Sam Edelman? I walk several miles a day as well but I don’t wear socks with these loafers. In your case, it may make sense to go up half a size if you’re wearing socks.
@@hellocatwalkcity I just go tthe Sam Edelmans and OMG it is so cushiony? i got 5.5 and they fit PERFECT with a little room. I think some no show socks will be perfect and make it snug enough... itll prob stretch a bit over time too and i think itll be ok
Love sam Edelman I love their shoes through out the years my feet gets wider so some of their shoes options change over time. I love their slip in option . I love the “ old man shoe “ I have many of them as for the Gucci I like but haven’t pulled the trigger since it’s not my go to brand. I’m looking forward to the movie already read the book and heard the audio book.
I think the Guccis will work best as winter shoes to wear with dressy socks or tights, they just don't fit slim enough on you for naked ankles. So surprise surprise the cheaper pair wins!
I’m a guy who bought some black Edelman’s shown here. I have other women’s loafers and these like the others are favored because they are lighter in weight than men’s loafers and feel more like wearing slippers than shoes. 😊
I love both:) I have similar design in beige color from local designer:) but I think if you want to feel the weight of luxury - you need to choose the brand one ;)
I think I would return the Gucci ones because they looked like they were returned. I am not about that. I like to receive my items how you received the ones from Sam Edelman.
Seems you like Sam Edelman more. But I feel like if you should also try Jordaan if you don’t need the mule option. Jordaan is def stiffer than Brixton. And I have my Brixton half size smaller. TFS ☺️
Yes I need to try the Brixton in a half size smaller. Maybe that’ll work better, plus I need to get a pair in new condition. What they sent me was definitely worn. I ordered from Bloomie’s online. 🤦🏻♀️
You seem to prefer the Sam Edelman loafers over the Gucci ones! Plus I think the details on the SE loafers are more feminine than the Gucci’s. I vote Sam Edelman 👍🏼
Thank you for this. I have tried and bought both, and then returned both. I am kind of like you that i am super picky with shoes. They have to be really comfortable. I think I generally don't like loafers but because they do look a bit dressier than white sneakers, I tend to "make" myself consider them whenever I want something other than sneakers. But, because my feet have been so spoiled by comfy sneakers, and because those loafers look just a bit nicer but not amazing (in my opinion), I tend to reach out for sneakers and forget about them. That is why I returned them shortly i bought them because I didn't bother to wear them. If you do want to change your outfit a bit, I would think Sam Edelman is the better option because they are indeed comfortable, and the look is very similar, and they are way less expensive. I don't think Gucci would look good if after some wears because the leather seems to be easily distressed.
I totally understand what you mean about spoiling our feet with comfy sneakers! I feel the same way! But yes, I’d also like to change up my look once in a while besides boots and sandals so I’ll give these loafers a try. 😉
Such a good question! I don’t know how it’s possible but they don’t make my feet sweaty. There is no odor. I asked my friend who has had the Gucci Brixtons for years and she says the same! I don’t find it to be a problem with the Guccis or the Sam Edelmans and I always wear them barefoot!
@@hellocatwalkcity wow that is great to hear! Have you had any particular flats before that this does happen and would be cautious about buying as a result?
@@GH-kx6xf Ah yes, it has happened with a few high heels in the past (which I wore mostly in the office). I really don’t know what makes some smelly and some not. 🤷🏻♀️
Yes but it shouldn’t be collapsed already and creased when they’re a new pair. Anyway, this is an old video and I returned these Gucci loafers and ordered a new pair and they’re perfect. Came in brand new condition like they’re supposed to.
I think the Sam Edelmans look more flattering on you. They’re more feminine and don’t have as much shine. And if they’re so close in appearance, why not choose the pair that is significantly less.
I like them both but yes the Sam Edelmans have a more feminine and slimming silhouette. I think I got the wrong size in the Gucci so that doesn’t help.
The Gucci backs are meant to fold down. I think the Sam Edelmans look best even before putting them on. Sam Edelman makes quality shoes and boots. I own a number of Sam Edelman footwear.
Honestly for $850 I must say Im not impressed with the Gucci loafers. I own a pair of Sam Edelman loafers and I found the quality to be great for the price. They look well made and are very comfortable.
The SE’s are super comfortable! I’ve got them in black & tan. Leather is soft, I can be in them all day - no problem! The Gucci’s on the other hand, horrid. The shoes, most of their shoes, have absolutely no give at all. I had the Gucci’s on for quarter of my day, I couldn’t take it 😖 I developed blisters around my entire foot. Keep SE, return Gucci.
I like the hardware detail and tongue on the gucci better, I like the narrow look of the sam Edelman better it’s more feminine…I love that you weigh things 😀 I hate heavy products…I would be so disappointed if I paid 800 for luxury and it looks worn….I also have a complex about my narrow long feet, when I was younger I used to get shoes that barely fit me to make my feet look smaller 😳…I would wear the loafers with skinny jeans or cropped pants…I’d go for the Sam Edelmans as a test…and oh my God no farting shoes 😄
Yess!! They both have pros and cons! I like them both, surprisingly. But the Gucci ones are too big on me so I’ll have to try them in a half size down. And no no, farting noises are a dealbreaker! 😂
Thank you for making this video. I love (!!) the Gucci Brixton loafers I have (so comfy, lux) but was wondering how the Sam Edleman loafers compared. In reality, the Sam loafers are a total knock-off of the Gucci Brixton because of the horsebit and that will always be the killer for me. I just cannot walk around in something that’s pretending to be something else. I live in a major city and walk to/from work, basically 90% of where I go day to day I go is on foot. The Brixtons will wrinkle but age really well.
Unfortunately I think they were worn previously and then returned. Not only wrinkles but quite stretched out. I’m going to try again but will order directly from Gucci this time. This pair was from Bloomingdales online. 🤷🏻♀️
@@hellocatwalkcity I agree with you that’s what it looks like…I can’t believe people would do that..I wouldn’t have the heart to send back something I’ve worn to that extent…
I doubt they were worn. Maybe tried on but the sole scuffs really easily so they’d be scuffed if worn. Also brixton style are super super soft so look like that really easily. The Jordaan style I think would be better for you because they’re stiffer leather. Big sizing too. Size down to the 38

Thank you!!
I love my Sam Edelman Loafers🥰
You bought the collapse ones. you can break them down and wear them as mules. The other ones are not wrinkled
I have four pair of the sam Edelman loafers and love them, they are comfortable right out of the box!😊
Wow four pairs! That’s great! You must really enjoy them!!
Wet kiss sound 🤣
I can’t pull off this look unfortunately that’s why I op for the Princeton ones! But the wrinkles are just the leather and they can also be worn with the backs pushed down so they’ll wrong irregardless ): I prefer the look of the Guccis though
Omg the Gucci one looks SOoo good on you
Really? Thank you!
Love this comparison video! You may also want to try them with socks on. I saw people wear these loafers with black socks and ankle jeans, which looks chic! If you like that style, you should leave some room for the socks, plus, this way you get to wear them in colder months! Thanks for the video!
Hmm I hadn’t thought about wearing them with socks but that’s a great idea especially as it’s getting colder! Thank you!
Just from the comparison, its a no brainer which one i would go for.Unless branding is a priority.
If you are starting a new shoe journey down the loafer path, you might want to try M. Gemi. I’m not a loafer girl either, but can’t do heels anymore. I fell for the snakeskin Sacca Donna’s. Really nice, Italian made, at about $250. 😀
Oh thank you for sharing!!!
Thank you!
Team Gucci here! They are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn.
I love them both on you!
I love that beige color on the Sam Edelmans! I hope they work out for you!
Thanks 🌹
Thank you!! So glad you enjoyed this
Vid!
Thank you!
@@hellocatwalkcity Cool! 😁💕
The Cole Haan sneakers are amazing! I also love the loafer look. I feel so smart and preppy when I style them with an outfit. 🤓 Both loafers look great on you!
Yes loveeee the Cole Haan sneakers!! Nothing can top them in my mind! Thank you. I’m now officially a loafers gal! 😂
I like your shoes. They look nice without socks.
I have a coach loafers, very comfy & pretty much goes with everything 😍
Oh man this was a tough one, they both look really cute. Which are the Cole Haan sneakers you wear?
The Cole Haan sneakers are linked above in my description box! 😉
@@hellocatwalkcity lol how did I miss that?! Thank you!
I love Sam Edelman Loraine loafers. I have three pair and I have very wide feet. They are super comfortable and I just don't feel the need to spend so much money on the Gucci loafers. I also have sandals and Chelsea boots by SE and love them too 😍 ❤ 💕
The Sam Edelman one's look more feminine and prettier on your feet. Thank for thecomparison. This was very helpful.
im debating if i should get 5/5 or 6. my feet swell after walking and i intendt o wear socks since i walk like 3 miles a day.
@@ot7stan207 Yay!!! So glad to hear it!
I have the Sam Edelman loafers in several colors and love them. Both look cute on you.
Yay! Thank you!
Gucci definitely looks way more luxurious!!
If I'm ever shopping in store for similar shoes, I try one on each foot so I'm wearing them both at the same time lol
Can you tell me if you usually wear these shoes with socks or without socks on a daily basis?
No socks! 😉
@@hellocatwalkcity allways?
I love both:) I have similar design in beige color from local designer:) but I think if you want to feel the weight of luxury - you need to choose the brand one ;)
I tried the Brixtons in multiple sizes and the heel slippage is an issue. Jordaans are 100% better shoes and soooo comfortable!!
Actually exchanged the Brixtons in a half size down and they work perfectly now! No issue with heel slippage anymore.
I think I would return the Gucci ones because they looked like they were returned. I am not about that. I like to receive my items how you received the ones from Sam Edelman.
I agree, the Gucci ones did not come in new condition. It’s hard to show on camera but they look quite worn and stretched out in person. 🤦🏻♀️
Both pairs looks nice on you. Gucci usually runs big for me. I need to order half size smaller.
I’m realizing now based on all the comments I should try a half size down for the Gucci’s. Thank you.
I like the look of both, very similar right? But yes, the Sam Edelman ones are slimmer and maybe more feminine on my feet. Thanks Julian!
No to shoe 💨 noises!!!!! ❌🤣. Love this vid!!! Team Gucci 💯.
😂 😆 🤪
I have to say I actually like the SA ones better! Maybe it’s the slightly narrower fit, but they look more feminine.
I have both and still love the Edelman
I don't like the Loafers in general, but Gucci appear to have a better (softer) quality leather. P.S I also don't like the dupes of any kind...
I purchased the Sam Edelman but their sizing was weird. None of the sizes
fit me perfectly no matter what size I tried.
How many cms room should a loafer have? From toe to tip of shoe
Your Gucci's were for sure tried on. As when I unboxed mine it was more packaged than what you opened.
Totally agree. I have many pairs or Gucci’s and they come like Fort Knox packages.
Yes, I definitely believe these were worn and returned. They’re quite wrinkled but also stretched out. I will try another pair.
I prefer the mules over loafers, I have the Gucci mules and it’s so comfortable.
Hi there. Very random question but do you find wearing these barefoot make your feet smelly?
@@hellocatwalkcity lol I’m not sure either. It could be the material and breathability of the shoe perhaps?!
LOL, the Gucci Brixton loafer is supposed to have a collapsible heel counter. You can wear them either way. That is the idea.+
You are right, the Gucci looks that they have been worn 👍🏻
Yes, they were pretty banged up. I returned them and got a new pair which I’m very happy with! Thanks for watching!
I don’t think the sam endelman is as comfortable as gucci. The gucci soft leather feels better and the quality is better.
@@hellocatwalkcity totally try the Gucci’s second time is a charm…why not 😉
I love the Gucci. The weight for size 8 Gucci would be even less! Since you have 8.5 Gucci and you weighed SE 8.
I have Paul Green ones, and it’s so comfortable! Give it a try if you have chance. :)))
I’m gucci fan! I have it and worn it since thann
Can anyone Sam Edelman Loafer fit size 8 for a foot length of 24.5 cm?
Thank you for making this video. I love (!!) the Gucci Brixton loafers I have (so comfy, lux) but was wondering how the Sam Edleman loafers compared.
In reality, the Sam loafers are a total knock-off of the Gucci Brixton because of the horsebit and that will always be the killer for me. I just cannot walk around in something that’s pretending to be something else.
I live in a major city and walk to/from work, basically 90% of where I go day to day I go is on foot. The Brixtons will wrinkle but age really well.
The Sam Edelmans actually look alot nicer I like the slimmer look
I like the Sam Edelman. They have a slimmer look and are feminine.
Hermes loafers are very, very comfortable
The gucci loafer looks much better in my opinion BUT I can't afford them! Lol
PS A loafer very similar to Gucci is made by And Other Stories. I have them and they're awesome!
I think the Sam Edelman loafers look better on your feet
Team Sam Edelman all the way!
😳 why do those gucci loafers look so worn?!?! That’s a lot of wrinkles in the heel area almost like someone stepped on them…strange
