It is funny how a small company like Pine64 has figured it out and other huge companies haven't. It is the price. A lot of people don't want to pay a thousand dollar for a phone.
$200 for a phone is not the issue. i think many are looking for a privacy phone. 2020 was a bad year for privacy. these guys are a god send. these guys are going to have a fantastic 2021.
I am not touching this unless it has mainline kernel support and they commit a develeoper maintaining it. I would even pay a subscription for that, price is secondary.
Those companies have figured it out. Money. People will pay them money. Why not milk them? In all seriousness, things like the PinePhone are what a real smartphone should be.
@@kwinzman If price is secondary for you and you want that the company pays someone for mainline kernel support, you maybe want to take a look at the Librem 5. The main problems of the Librem 5 are currently that the camera is not working, you have less Distro options and the shipping process takes a lot of time, but this will maybe change in the next weeks.

Yes, I agree. Covering the Ups and Downs with the challenges and victories keeps Pine Lovers engaged. Other companies hide away leaving supporters in the dark. Several have just gone into the night and left customers hanging and money never returned. This is called Classy Integrity. Thank you Lukasz and team.
Hoping more people can do thorough reviews for the state for the existing compatible software for the PinePhone. This way we can solicit feedback from the end users on what should be worked on. Obviously, the guys already working on the software likely have this tracked in some code/bug tracker of sorts, but it helps to see it from the end user perspective as well.
any suggestions for rf-nfmi override of dipswitches? unplugged, all swithces off, no sim, yet phone was being controlled by someone else, straight out of the box. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Wasn't there also some news about chips with faster IO in the near future or did I pick that up somewhere else xD? Anyways very happy with the Crust optimizations and amazing progress in getting Pinephones to an almost daily driver state. Hopefully even bigger progress coming year so we can all switch away from Android! Thanks for the hard work everyone :)
Was disappointed in my Braveheart, mainly in the screws. Using the right size screwdriver, they were in so tight that I couldn't unscrew them, and stripped the heads off. superglue didn't work, too small for the rubber band trick, and I just don't have the excess money to buy an electric screwdriver or drill and bits small enough for these. It was fun to play around with, but you can only stand the vibration motor running at full power until you take the battery out for so long. Pinebook Pro, my power adapter was DOA and the screen had a defect, and I was discouraged from RMA'ing. I wish good will towards the Pine64 folks, they're doing a good service to the community by selling affordable and unique hardware like this, and inspiring people to get involved. But I'm not the type to hack around with hardware all day, or to write software, so this probably just isn't for me. Anyways, relevant to the video, I'm excited for that expansion bar for the pinebook pro. Since I can still charge via USB-C, and the keyboard is nice, I get some use out of my Pro.
Hello! I seem to have a problem with my PinePhone (Manjaro). Just out of nowhere my settings menu is gone! And as i am a noob and only done soms C# in a ancient past, i am totally confused how it could happen? I been trying some things out tho, need to keep a log of what i am all doing so i can trace the steps where i went wrong on things. I myself have a feeling it would be better to just reinstall Manjaro and maybe test some other OS in the process.. I dunno!! Only thing i can say atm is.. HELP! Haha

Soooo many reasons why manufacturing (as a whole, not specifically just for Pine products) needs to come back to the US .
Not a good idea, this way pine products would get caught up in wild tarrif wars started by US-goverment.

That is determined by which SIM (subscriber identity module) card you insert. :-)
But presumably the cellular service provider must have GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) compatible cell-towers.
