Excellent video of one my favorite places in the world. Looks like you had fun! You're right about the Dutch side being the more commercialized half. Orient Beach is definitely a nude beach on one side...and what has been seen cannot be unseen! Next time you go, be sure to take the ferry to Anguilla and then go to East Shoal Bay Beach -- it will blow your mind at how nice it is there. All you need to go is your passport, since Anguilla is British. It was ~$50 round trip last time we were there and It's totally worth it. Shoal Bay often rated one of the Top 10 beaches in the world and for good reason!
I'm thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the video! It truly means a lot to me. And thank you for sharing your favorite spot and the ferry suggestion. I'll definitely check it out next time I'm in the area. Thanks again!
Fun fact - if you go to the website for the Port of Sint Maarten, there is a schedule that shows when the cruise ships will be in port. Then you can plan around the crowds and you'll know when you'll have less competition for your activities. (Thanks for that tidbit, Riselle.) Also, U.S. visitors won't need power adapters on the Dutch side as they use U.S. standards.
To expand on a few points in your view: Caribbean Travel season is typically December to March or April it's when things tend to be more expensive for most Caribbean islands. Summer months aren't as busy and because it's hurricane season alot of things cost less and more private, also islands from Anguilla to Antigua might get tropical waves ( quick passing showers )... As regards other islands Anguilla, St Barts, and Saba make great day trips via ferry. Fun Fact about the French and Dutch sides: the actually had different curfews during the pandemic, on was 8pm and the other 10pm, regarding the Jet blast, it more dangerous for people trying to hold on to the fence, people have been blown in traffic, on the pavement where they can get injured or worse. On the beach it just pushes you on the water and blows away anything on the ground. As I was watching your initial video the rougher seas are more on the Atlantic side than Caribbean side. Y'all did a lot of beach hoping I was hoping to see y'all do more activities like ziplineing and tubing which are a must. Finally if y'all return to St. Maarten and go over to St. Barts there is a spot to watch noncommercal planes land, these little planes come in so low down hill that you literally have to duck to avoid "possibly" getting hit by their wheels.
Thank you for your detailed feedback! I appreciate you expanding on the points I mentioned in the video. It's great to know more about the Caribbean travel season and the differences between the French and Dutch sides. I'll keep your suggestions in mind for future videos!
Just to clarify. There is officially two clothing optional beaches. Part of Orient Beach on one end of it. And Cupecoy Beach which is where you were.(Just be aware those caves can collapse every once in awhile) It is European and yes you will see a lot of toplessness Mainly on the French side There is a couple of other beaches that might have some unofficial clothing optional spots, but Orient Beach and coupecoy Beach are your main ones.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! Saint Martin is truly a stunning island with its unique blend of Dutch and French culture. The landscape, mountains, and beaches are definitely a sight to behold. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm thrilled that the video could provide you with some helpful tips for your anniversary surprise. Wishing you both a wonderful celebration in July!
That's awesome! Glad you found a great price and that my kayaking tip was helpful. Traveling with an inflatable kayak sounds like a smart way to save some money while still enjoying the experience!
Loved all the information you shared in your video! I plan to visit at end of the month…Excited! What is considered low season? I’ll definitely check out your guide…that zip line is calling my name 😊
Great video we are going on a cruise shortly and will be visiting St Martin so will defo look at the zip wire and rum tour. Thanks for the recommendation.
Honestly, the zip line is a little anticlimactic. Obviously it’s exciting, but it’s over before you know it (naturally). Truth be told, my wife and I enjoyed the slow assent to the top on the chairlift more than the zip line down because you have time to really enjoy the scenery and views.
Been wanting to visit for 3 years now. I was thinking about going this year for my birthday. I started bingeing most of your videos Saturday night into Sunday evening. After getting to your ST Maarten Vlog, I decided to make the trip and I’m getting ready to go to St Maarten on Feb 21-26, after spending a few days in Medellín. It doesn’t seem you go out at night to party, Any advice for the night life? Maybe chill lounge for people watching with great views? Mrs. Chew good drinks? Thanks for sharing your travel adventures!
Thank you for the support to our channel. We have a lot of recommendations including nightlife in St Martin in our travel guide you can find here chewstoexplore.com/product/explore-saint-martin-sint-maarten-travel-guide/
Greetings from Germany, I really enjoyed your videos about Sint Maarten and we are looking forward to visiting in April. Thanks for all of the tips. All the best and keep those videos coming.
I’m deadddd! At the 1:10 minute mark you’re leaving your Airbnb and my eyes popped out! OMG! That’s exactly where my wife and I stayed last summer (August, 2023). You leave the apartment, cross the street to the parking lot, and just beyond the lot is a large athletic field and cinder running track. But I was thinking no way they were in the same place, and then you do the accommodations piece at the 5:30 time stamp and I’m like, “Yup! That’s it!” In fact, your shot of the pool from the balcony was almost exactly the same as our view, so your Airbnb must’ve been in the apartment next to the one we stayed in. The capsized boat in the water of the private beach confirmed it. Crazy! Small world. My wife and I have been to SXM four times and we were seriously considering being expats upon retiring. It’s a beautiful and friendly island. We love it. Great video! God bless you two. 🙏🏼
Wow, what a coincidence! It's amazing how small the world can be, especially when it comes to travel. Glad you enjoyed the video and that it brought back some great memories!
Very good video with information....not too long which I like it.. Funny and good that people can be naked 😂...nothing wrong with that I think .. people can feel free and stressed away. I wanna go there but need to find accommodation close the grocery/ shoppin center coz I dont drive. I have few days holidays in Oct. but I google it about weather that is most wet time..😟
Thank you for your kind words! I'm thrilled to hear that the video was informative and just the right length for you. Good luck with your accommodation search!
Next time when you come do the hills. There are lot of trails to do hiking and there is the LOTTERY FARM on the French side zip lining up to the highest peak on the entire island and also the Rain forest adventure on the dutch side There is a lot more to see. So do come back 🙃
LOTTERY FARM is GREAT and definitely a semi-secret gem. Super relaxing pool. And a great place to see the wild monkeys frolic in THEIR natural habitat.
This truy means the world to us! So happy that you enjoy the videos and come back for more. Thank you for watching and enjoying the content! I hope you have an amazing time there!
Thank you so much for your suggestion! I really appreciate your input. Celebrating my 30th birthday in September sounds like a fantastic idea. We actually went in September and had an amazing time.
Respectfully, September is great for relaxation and romance. If you want a quiet birthday September is great. If you want to party and turnup then Dec -May is a great time to go. A lot of places are closed Sept/Oct. and it's relatively empty.
I literally just came back from there did not see anything about the buses. Spent 400+ in taxes found out about the buses on the last day. The bus were 1.50 one way and they took USD in the Dutch side. The bus comes almost every 15 minutes.
I really appreciate you sharing this information! It’s valuable for others planning their trips. I’m glad you managed to discover the bus system, even if it was at the last minute!
Peace&blessings Thank You for your informed video. I am visiting Sint Maarten soon In next week in upper PrinceQuarters. I am unable to Google the Right car rental place you suggested- on a budget - the ones suggested by abnb are not in budget? Any other contact source for your experience or suggestion. Thanks for your comment! I went in September and there was indeed a lot of seaweed. I'm not sure if there's a season without it, but it's always good to be prepared for some seaweed fun!
My wife and I have always used Enterprise. You can easily catch a shuttle from the airport directly to the rental location on the main Dutch-side thoroughfare.
My friend had a layover in St Martin , because of bad weather she was bumped off of her flight ,..... She was left to fence for herself .. the airport personnel were heartless ..... She is disabled, in a wheel chair ...... She was wheeled onto the curb with no one to direct her to a hotel .... She had to call home for assistance ....
There are no casinos on the french side... only dutch side Nudity is only allowed on the beaches of french side. St. Maarten uses 3 currencies: National money is called guilders, but we also use dollars & euros. Places do not close during any season unless its a public holiday. .......
