wait, is that the one in twilight princess that give you the broken title screen? I remember it being a glitch for about a year before it had a speedrunning use. also not super hard to pull off, it was just timing. no angles or anything too crazy. though iirc the number of hearts I had when pulling it off changed 'the glitch' (as I didn't speedrun at the time)
@@tommytomthms5 Nah, Scuttlebug Raising is a glitch from Super Mario 64. It works very similarly to this guay hover; a really good explanation can be found in this video here th-cam.com/video/kpk2tdsPh0A/w-d-xo.html There's a lot more explained than just the Scuttlebug Raising in that video, however.
dude this category is probably gonna be like 6 and a half hours now but it's still gonna beat record despite being just under an hour longer because of item priority, this is such an awful discovery
ZFG is on a competitive team, is paid, and now bullies nerds... makes it official, speedrunning is a sport and he is a jock. Time to regulate it. ZFG ruined both Max% child and speedrunning as a whole.
Is the skybox fixed? Aiming to have Link's head line up with a specific feature on a specific cloud might be a good way to set up the angle - providing you don't wander too much sideways when hovering.
this is absolutely not optimal in any sense for actual speed it’s only ‘optimal’ in the context of the challenge run at hand. this is probably like, the single worst way to get fire arrows in any context but this run lol
zfg's brain is a cognitiohazard. this all poses the question of if knowledge is too dangerous to be known to all, should it be shared in the first place. or, if not, is it inevitable that it will be revealed in time. funny toucan
the point isn’t to go fast it’s to get more items, since max% child is more of a challenge run than a speedrun. a run which gets more items within the rules than a previous record run is record regardless of speed, therefore the fire arrows GIM section could literally take three days and the run which did it (assuming it got all the other items previous max% child runs did as well) and it would still be record since item count > speed in this category
given how broken this game is, other than ACE, is there a way to jumble the home point of the guay? maybe a way to substitute the home ccoordinates of a guay from another map somehow
Is there a way to reposition it's home in some way? In Mario 64 you can change an enemy's home by getting hit by it or deloading the area its in, and I would think you would be able to do something like that in OoT. Nothing at all comes to mind, but I'd be surprised if the subject of changing an enemy's home position has come up more than a handful of times in OoT history so I doubt its something that has been thoroughly tested.
I hope the community look into it, or have looked into it, since the talk of enemy homes reminded me of scuttlebug transportation and raising in SM64 lol.
The minimap is bad, but is it at least consistent? I'm wondering if you can just know the locations RELATIVE to the minimap, and use the yellow arrow direction? It's a bit like playing pool (billiards); you gotta eyeball the angle based on the references you have.
doesn't the Gway's home update whenever it hits Link's shield? If there was a way to update the Gway's home, you'd be able to do your backflips strictly in the Colossus's direction, and that would probably save you a lot of time on this hover.
Wait, if you have quick putaway active, couldn't you use the Majora's Mask version of Bombchu Hovers with mega backflips to cover massive distance, or am I crazy? Or is that not possible in OoT? I know that, for example, the old Great Bay boss key skip used mega backflips + chu hovers in conjunction to get to the boss room, befor it was found you can do it from the very start of the temple. I know that in OoT, you CAN activate MM hovers using some variant of quick putaway - is it possible to combine these two, or does the current glitch set up disable bombchus, too? (I know it disables bombs).
bombs and bombchus don’t explode in the GIM state which is why you hover off the guay in the first place. otherwise you would just do a relatively short standard bomb hover
isn't this category everything with source requirenment? why would this glitch be counted? or is it because it was an actual item that was picked up and just maniped? and at that point wouldn't this be a 1 for 1 item trade? am i being a dumdum? all this and more when somebody maybe answers my questions.
This is sick I was there for da stream but I know nothing about oot, if someone likes to answer oot stuff: What’s quick put away, and why does having it cause the guay to not take damage?
Phew... Okay... Here we go. You can take out and put away items in OOT. By interrupting the put-away command, you cancel the animation. By interrupting the put-away command when putting away a deku stick, you acquire a broken stick with a corrupted damage value. This stick does zero damage to the guay when it hits the guay. But that's kind of the *end* of the fustercluck that is happening here. In order to hover, you need to activate the Infinite Sword Glitch, which prevents you from falling under normal gravity, allowing you to jump up into to the damage source and keep that height. However, with ISG active, you are holding a permanent damage hitbox in your hand. If the damage source (guay) touches it, it takes damage and in this case, dies. HOWEVER, with quick put away acting on the stick to create glitchstick, he can carry his ISG and not worry about what happens if he accidentally hits the guay. There's... more going on than that... but that's the crux of the biscuit.
I assume the amount of units you rise each backflip differs depending on the timing, so he could be at vastly different heights on different runs with the same amount of hovers
it’s not perfectly consistent, depending on the execution each hover can be a bit higher or lower so you can get a rough estimate by doing so but nothing more
