- Locksley Wellington "Slide" Hampton and an all-star big band (trombones and rhythm section) perform "LAMENT" by J.J. Johnson. Videotaped on May 25, 2001 by Clyde Yasuhara in Redondo Beach, California. (Note: I cut out the middle portion at 4:24 to save time, and to focus on Mr. Hampton's playing)
this man just keeps getting better and better, quite amazing really
I once had the great pleasure of meeting Mr. Hampton. It was about the time of the performance in this video. We were both waiting for our flights at the Cincinnati airport. I noticed the white haired gentleman with the trombone case and went over to speak to him. I "played" trombone in high school and college and was curious about the guy with the horn. He was rather gracious and gave no indication of his many accomplishments. I wish I had known more about his distinguished career, I had no idea I was in the presence of such musical greatness.
Oui , Extraordinaire Slide Hampton !
Bravo Slide!!!! Slide is the greatest. Imagine playing as he does on a horn the size of a Bass trombone
AMAZING!
Bravo!
Clyde...would you name the "all-star" personnel, please?? Thanks!

I believe he is playing a custom horn built by Worischek - a manufacturer based in Germany:

how many musicians are there
Half of these musicians hung themselves, after realizing that they had dedicated their lives to funeral music. smile
truthaboveagenda dude, slide is the jimi hendrix of this stuff
It's been a sparkling waste of your brain to even conceive of something so dark as you spake. Wow!
