    No problem and thank you, if you need anymore information on the 22b or any other car don't hesitate to ask, anything at all!!! I've actually privateered a few different cars but living only a few miles from the man himself I was a huge McRae fan and it was his influence that led me to make the switch to Subaru (as soon as funds permitted) so anything I can help you with please feel free to ask 👍🏼

    Great video.......two of my favourite WRC cars. If only the 22B was affordable...... It remains just a elusive dream. I have the a red TME.....The garage is onot half full without a 22B there. Hopefully when you do the TME rematch you can get some nice incar footage of the 22B as well. Cheers mate for doing such great reviews of these rally icons!!

    Thank you for your kind reply 👍🏼 some other people might have taken my observation the wrong way, good to see you like a healthy debate, and yes I no you can't re do the video but I would agree that for no7 it might have been better to point out that great chassis and seam welded shell which some testers reported to be too stiff but they didn't seem to realise that this car was designed to be as close to Colin's Tarmac spec rally car as possible for the road so of course it's stiff, the car was based on the striped out type RA with no sound deadening and very thin carpets as well, it's supposed to be a frenetic car! it's for bombing down B roads like an Exocet missile, romping thru that short ratio gearbox at 8000 rpm not for cruising about posing, (hell you only got 15 mpg) although it does look absolutely amazing with those arches, bumpers, bonnet and wing all crafted by (mclaren f1 designer) Peter stevens, looked even better next to the TME in your other vid, top work 👍🏼

      No worries, it's a very special car and not enough people know about it which I why I wanted to do this video in the first place. Thanks for your great contribution. Not nearly enough 22B content on YT. I was fortunate to own a 22B some years ago and actually followed Colin McCrae up the road in it. He was in his Focus WRC car, driving between stages of the Network Q rally. It was a great moment for me and a treasured memory. I have teamed up with Sam Butcher who owns the 22B seen on some of my other videos. You should check out his channel. I used some of his clips for No.5 (555!) there are links to his vids there. A full feature on our Evo triangle trip is in the pipeline, I might use some of your info in that. Cheers!

      @@DrPittenstein yes definitely not enough 22B content even nowadays, hence why I’m here today. I applaud you and so envious for having a 22B as I wasn’t as fortunate to own a 22B, Won day. By the time of the 22B I had owned RS Legacy inspired by the man himself RIP Colin when he won Rally NZ in 1993, and then a white JDM spec V2 STi RA. Well some mates and I were going back to Parc Ferme as the top drivers finished the morning stages. Get up and personal, to a point and watch teams work on the cars. On our way we came up on Tommi in a EVO V, Carlos Sainz in the Corolla, man those were the days of rally, and of course the man himself Colin in the 22B, yes! I get to pass Colin and a 22B in my V2 as well. Man great day but to finish it off as I passed Colin and the beast on a passing lane, keep left unless passing, we slowed so they had to pass us and Colin pulled us along side, Colin was like 2-3 feet away from me, made eye contact we grinned then he gave me the thumbs up. So once Colin and the 22B passed I flicked my blinker chucked down a gear pulled up beside them waved then boosted off, something Colin would of done too.
      So thank you for your experience for me to relive a memory and a experience from that man himself RIP Colin McRae. 😎

    THE most important thing is that it's chassis has been seam welded like a rally car and is much stiffer. You can buy all the other parts for a normal impreza. To seam weld you have to take it back to metal.

  • @bossboyritchno1287
    @bossboyritchno1287 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    And sorry I meant to add you are totally right about the lotus, magnesium rims have been about for some time just probably not forged magnesium, one of my other favourite cars the m3 csl also has magnesium rims! we used them in rallying for years and were very strong and light but were prone to hairline cracks and cheaper to buy new ones than repair, whereas the much more expensive forged mags would bend and could be repaired more easily but eventually we found that forged alloy could be just as strong and light as the mags which is why most top rally cars all use forged aluminium now,

    That '98 rally car was just perfection.

    • @DrPittenstein
      @DrPittenstein  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Arunweb100 Yes a true great. I was very fortunate to own one of the 400 for a few years. Stiff and uncompromising but exceptional in every regard on smoother roads. The revised steering was exquisite. The clutch was a swine but it could launch the car like nothing else I've ever owned. Literally dial up the revs, dump the clutch and hang on tight! A true thoroughbred rally weapon! The flat four also kept the CofG exceptionally low. This is true for all Imprezas but the flat four motor is what really seperates the Subarus from their rivals. A very smart idea that won the WRC three times.

    Lol, I see you tried to hit me with some knowledge, well Please check your facts then as the wheels were lightweight forged aluminium, to go with the forged aluminium lower arms, inverted Bilstein dampers and eibach springs that were hooked up to the fully seam welded shell, I no every single upgrade that was made for this car, magnesium wheels were far too expensive back in 1998, bbs didn't even develop a forged magnesium wheel until 1992, And that was for the Ferrari f1 racing car! then indy car racing in1994, so they were still way too expensive to put on a production car just 4 years later, even if it was a limited run, cheer!

    • @DrPittenstein
      @DrPittenstein  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Owned! I stand corrected. You clearly know your stuff Andrew, thanks for sharing your expertise. I can't really edit the whole thing again but with hindsight maybe the seam welded shell would have been a better choice for No.7. At least we have some more interesting (and accurate) info in the comments. I can't remember where I got that info from but clearly I've been led up the garden path. I know Lotus used Route OZ magnesium wheels for the 1999 Esprit Sport 350 so I didn't doubt that it was possible.

      +DrPittenstein everyone loves a 22B. The best subaru ever made in my opinion, but they were incredibly rare and you're talking inbetween 40 to 60 grand if you can find one nowadays. The p1 would be good in a comparison video against the Tommi Makinen. I'm sure they were released at around the same time and were in direct competition against eachother in the UK at least. I've got a standard one and love it, but I have to admit I'd have a 22B if I could rustle up a spare 60 k

  • @DrPittenstein
    @DrPittenstein  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hear Ye! We are hereby changing the 7th coolest thing about the 22B from 'Gold magnesium wheels' to 'Seam welded shell'. Firstly the wheels were actually forged aluminium, not magnesium! Secondly a seam welded shell is a proper rally construction technique for extra rigidity and strength. Way cooler! Thanks to Andrew Ritchie for the input.

      +Marius Sternberger I used to Marius back in the early 2000s. I loved it. I sold it to a friend who blew it up so they are even rarer now! Wonderful, amazing, thrilling cars that are worth every penny of what they sell for these days. In fact I think they are still good value at £50k. I would love to get another but enjoying the Tommi Mak right now. I am planning to do a video with Sam who supplied the in-car footage where we get the 22B together for a head-to-head with the Evo VI TME. Watch this space!

      +DrPittenstein Ah OK, I thought you have both in your Garage, the Evo VI MTE and the Subaru 22B. I don't wanna choose between these two cars on a sunny Sunday morning what i am going to drive now :). But really great idea with the head-to-head battle can't wait to see it!

    • @DrPittenstein
      @DrPittenstein  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Marius Sternberger That would be nice Marius, what a cool pair of cars to own! Like you say though, which one to choose?! Yes the red and the blue will do battle soon. We're thinking North Wales. But the roads are still too icy at the moment, my Mak is hibernating in the garage. The salt on our roads in the UK will eat it alive! So hard to see it in the garage going nowhere. It just begs to be driven!

      +DrPittenstein Yeah in Germany the Weahter is also to cold for the Season.

    • @DrPittenstein
      @DrPittenstein  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Marius Sternberger I have to be honest Marius, I couldn't really tell the difference playing with the centre diff on my 22B. But I was not so experienced a driver back then. Maybe I would now? I think the max torque split is 35/65 anyway so not 100% rear, now that would be cool! Regardless it is a nice feature, all 4WD cars should have it.
