I actually teared up when you talked about exercise not being a punishment. It took me decades to figure out how good exercise makes me feel and how it is truly my “me time.” It’s also not about hitting certain paces or goals all the time-it’s all about being healthy and mentally well enough to enjoy this journey of life. Thank you for this today 💗
“Your best is going to look different every single day.” Wow. The part about having different ingredients every day was SOO helpful. I listened to that part a few times. I’m writing down what you said to remind myself of this. Different day, different ingredients. Thank you for this! Also, thank you so much for reminding us not to “punish” ourselves if we miss or have an off day. This is such the attitude pushed by a lot of people in the fitness industry and the world. It’s really f**led up when you think about it. I like how you said you can find joy in these activities, not use them as punishment.❤🏃♀️
Thank you Lucy! I needed your message today. Had to skip my run today because I threw out my back. I’m fine. The chiropractor took care of me. But your message about punisher workouts reminded me of my teenage years. Running was used as a punishment on me for being overweight/out of shape. It took decades for me to find that same joy I had in running as when I was a child. Running is a joy and a release for me now and I’m glad I found people like you who inspire me. Many thanks! ❤️😀👟🏃🏻♀️🌈 P.S., love the double medal wall! 🤩
Oh no I hope you’re ok and get better soon 🫶🏻 I’m thankful you have found the joy it and don’t use it as punishment, it breaks my heart to think some others do. I’m so happy with our medals 😆 It took me so long to pick a place to put them 😫
Thank God for chiros!! I can walk without the pain of my former back injury bc of one (when the MD I saw laughed at me-actually, and the PT thought I was too sweaty-remarked it out loud to another PT with others in the room after they made me 20 mins of very painful moves while very injured and very overweight, so unprofessional. Ha, apparently I needed to get that out)!
Melts my heart Lucy to see all of your medals hung up on display. I know you talk about so much more than just achieving these events but they do look pretty! Well done 🎉 and as for Matt….. I thought he should be twice as fast as that - he’s been running forever and fitness is his profession 😂😂 Thanks so much Lucy for the content and heart and honesty you put into all your videos. We are so lucky to have you as the champion for health and balance and promoter of we can all do this xx❤
Just found this video Lucy. A big thumbs up from me (new subscriber). Like most here you definitely inspire me! Very grateful to have someone so authentic and willing to share the good as well as the tricky stuff. Fantastic vlog. Thank you ☺️
Omg such great messages throughout! Loved the different days have different ingredients! Brilliant! And thanks for talking on NOT using exercise as punishment! ❤👏
You def inspire me. After one of those years where everything went wrong, running is now my me time and it’s nice to see my weight goal in a slow but stable time line. I’ve been there with the punishment thing in the past and it REALLY doesn’t make for a happy life. Keep posting running bud! 🎉
I’m so happy I’m able to help inspire you 🥹 I’m also grateful that you’re not going through a punishment with exercise anymore 🫶🏻 I will do running bud! 🏃🏻♀️
Your subscribers need to start soliciting GymShark to sponsor you. A real-life woman running for good physical and mental health and motivating us to do the same. You are the type of role model I want to see working with these fitness companies.
Thank you for the heartfelt message at the end. You know, for me, since I had to learn to walk twice now (or trice, counting baby-days), when I dont feel quite motivated, I remeber the days I would have given everything to be able to move or to be pain-free. Im back to running now and I am so happy every single time I am able to do it. Sometimes friends and family members say: Oh, i wish i could see it this way. Then I think - unfortunately, you will learn, but for most people, its in old age, that they value being able to move instead of taking it as a given. They also see sports as a "must" or as a "punishment" instead of having the privilege of health and/or mobility to do so. Perhaps we also just should detach sports from calories. Movement is one thing, staying in calorie-limits its another, and the two do no need to be a package deal. You can run without counting macros and calories, distance and miles or whatever you choose to quantify yourself. For myself, counting time or distance or both is just very motivating, but i would not punish myself for never being a race-car-style-of runner like runners like your husband are. I also would not punish a hedgehock for not being able to fly ;-)
Western society puts SUCH an emphasis on "being fit" that running for health is lost on the vast majority. I told myself, "You're doing it today if for no other reason than your mental health, now let's go." The pay-offs are a better functioning mind and body. Way to know the value in that!! You're a leader by example, just like Lucy- keep it up!
I love your analogy of making today’s dinner with yesterday’s ingredients, yes every run is different but every run is your best in that moment. I used to have ‘punishment’ days when I was in the throes of my eating disorder and would literally run away from my emotions and would try to be in as much of a deficit as possible so that I didn’t have the energy to think let alone move. I’m really looking forward to my 10km race on Sunday in addition to doing my local park run in the morning. I should probably display my medals properly somewhere, but finding space is tricky. Finishing the London Marathon this year as a newbie to the distance is definitely my proudest moment.
I’m sorry you went through that struggle, so happy that you’re not having to live like that now 🫶🏻 I hope you have the best time at the 10k!! I’m sure you are going to do amazing 🏃🏻♀️🙌🏼
"Punisher" thoughts: No need, esp if it was just an off day or even a 2-3 of them. Perspective is key. Long-term progress isn't made sustainable by perfection or punishment, but consistency. If your "train pulled in for a stop, get back on once it's pulling away again" and keep doing what you have been, increasing your threshold progressively but safely, and with grace for the journey. Punishment will only encourage an unhealthy mindset that can knock you down when you don't expect it. Idea 1: Go with yours, first! You make great content!! Idea 2: Consider a "foot care" episode. Not just changing shoes but do you have regular pedis, do you use a certain scrub/soak at home, if so when/how often? Do you take extra dry socks with you on long runs/races? Do you use any (of course talc free) powders? Are you using any brands like Swift Wicks or Smart Wool, et cet, or do you stick with your fave brand of socks? Any of that. The 10k, I love the idea of half way, catch your breath, half back. Im going to try that. The farthest I've built to without stopping is 4.25 miles. I am aiming at mt first 10k possibly in the Autumn. I heard once that our brain is so busy taking trillions of micro pictures "en route" to wherever we go, that it does not have to do that on the way back if it's the exact return route so more of your mental energy is freed-up. But who knows. 😄 Great "slow run", Matt! 😅 I'm not even saying my fastest mile time on here! Wonderful medal rack! I need to get one of those for my oldest! One of my younger is getting ready for his first miler race and my youngest is getting ready for her first kids dash! We're becoming a running family-wooo!!
Oh my gosh, that made me cry about punishment. Somehow I got into running and love it. I get a little upset when other runners say they have to run a certain distance because they ate cake or skipped a few days or gained a couple of pounds. Yet, it's a beautiful day and there's a game on in the afternoon and why oh why would anyone bring negativity to an optimal run day? Thanks for your wonderful videos and inspiration! 🙌 Matt is slower than a bear... 😜
Matt needs to up his splits, far too sluggish! and well done not running through the red flags this week Lucy! which guarantees we'll get so see you next week for another vlog! 🤣

It’s heartbreaking isn’t it 😞 Thank you! He needs to work on getting quicker 😂
I adore these vlogs! Watching for motivation for my run later x
😊❤️
Matt needs to up his splits, far too sluggish! and well done not running through the red flags this week Lucy! which guarantees we'll get so see you next week for another vlog! 🤣
😅 Yes I’ll be back next week for sure, hopefully avoiding more red flags! 😂🏃🏻♀️
Lucy you are an inspiration happy running 😊
Thank you so much! 🥹
Hi Lucy! What kind of cross training do you do at the gym?
80th year anniversary of D-Day... prolly why the anthem. Love the vid. Stay strong!
I thought that afterwards but it was around 10 days before the anniversary, I’ll just assume that’s what it was 😆 Thanks!
My husband is the same way, even when he’s not in shape he can blow me out of the water with his run time.
It’s so annoying isn’t it! 😅
I love you I watch you consistently. If you want to influence me or just be my running buddy I'm here for all of it
Matt you're such a "slow" runner pick it up buddy lol lucy proud of you happy that you are improving and push through way to go
😆😆 He needs to work on that pace 😂 Thank you so much! 🫶🏻
Thank you. Matt is incredibly slow … compared to NASCAR or Formula One speeds. Yep, I agree running time is rewarding.
Yeah you’ve got a point 😅
Hello Matt 👋🏼 I ran a 17:03 5k Wednesday, looking forward to being back under 17 again 😌😂
We’re both rooting for you! But I think you’re insane 😆🙌🏼🏃🏻♀️
@@lucyshawvlogs I prefer the shorter distances, I think you're both insane with those ultras! 💪🏻😊
Are you on Strava ? Love your channel !
I don’t use Strava. Thanks 🫶🏻
Lucy what sort of watch are you wearing
I have a Garmin Forerunner 55 🙌🏼🏃🏻♀️
Matt is only faster than any car allowed to drive inside my towns city limits 🙂 And to think thats its the average instead of max speed😱
😆😆 It’s crazy he can just go out and do that kind of pace 🤯
@@lucyshawvlogs on the other hand - if gas prices are going up, it comes in handy...?
