    A great running session there. I do like the different liveries applied to these locomotives as it just sets them apart.

      Hi Lynden, Thank you for your observations here. Yes, they wore them well, but I suppose it came down to practicalities at the end of the day. Delighted you enjoyed that glance back to a lost era.

      @@crewelocoman5b161 I believe in BR days some locomotive paint was more expensive but don't know how true this was?!

      @@lyndengrant1657 Most possibly, I reckon, hence the settled hues of dark green and black. Practicalities taking priority I suppose. Black always looked good on steam locos whether 'Top Link' or a humble goods engine...providing it was kept reasonably clean!

    brilliant, Ive always wondered how long it actually took BR to paint all that stock post 48. Must have taken years. ive seen a dvd od a Jinty in 1954 still with LMS on the sides

      Hi Lee, Not that long actually, obviously the most important trains and the carriage stock receiving priority. Further down the ranks you would see the likes of 'Jinties' and their ilk with previous ownership still in place well into the '50s. Thanks for your comment and observation as always.

      Hi, Many thanks for the observation. Yes, I've collected a multitude of miscellaneous vehicles over the years, officially referred to as 'Non Passenger Carrying Vehicles that were built in their thousands by the railways. Why? The railways learnt quickly that there was money to be made from carrying freight by express passenger trains...and the receipts from this conveyance was to added to the passenger ledger. Hence the multitude of 'freight' vehicles built to passenger vehicle standards. From what I've seen of many layouts, this is very much a neglected aspect of model railway operation. Delve back into the archives and you will see that this was a huge aspect of railway operation, from milk and perishables to pigeons and just about everything inbetween that wasn't of an industrial mineral fuel origin. True, a lot of this stuff travelled at night, but I well recall returning very late into large through and terminus stations and they would be choc-a-bloc almost with a multitude of these types of vehicles.

    as an aside, keen to know how you made the walls at the forefront...card I assume.

      @crewelocoman5b161  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Lee, Thank you for your question. Nope, not card! Wills/Craftsman (now under the Peco banner??). Moulded plastic, in a glossy red brick topped with coping stones. How did I get that effect? Simple. They come in sections, dab a sizeable blob of cream paint onto wall section then rub it off with some tissue; straightaway it dulls down the 'gloss' to a slightly weathered look and fills in the mortar course, between the bricks. Paint the coping stones dark grey and then do the same with the cream paint The main reason I put them there was to prevent trains falling off onto the floor in the event of a de-railment. The retaining wall at the back of the layout, the ones with the arches also come in a glossy grey plastic, treated in exactly the same way!

    What chassis is the mainline patriot on like ceylon it's a great livery

      Hi James. thank you for your enquiry. It's a Bachmann 'generic' LMS 4-6-0 chassis, though in this particular case, not a very good one, it's a bit on the rough side. I painted the cylinders 'apple green' (Precision Paints) and lined them with orange transfers.
