Depression naps? Diahrrea? Loneliness? This game really does have everything! The only difference from this and real life is that the game is based on an Island but I have these problems in the Taco Bell Drivethrough.
I bought this right after your first vid and it is indeed rather difficult. My god. Love the mechanics. We should support this developer in coming out with a whole Bear Grylls style series of survival scenarios!
immediately after playing this I couldn't wait for the weekly updates, and hope it leads to an eventual Card Survival: X successor. There is _so_ much room for potential here.
@@RetromationOur plan, if everything goes well, is to release a series of Card Survival games over the next few years. Tropical Island is the first in the series, but we have plans for 3 more: Below Zero, Zombie Apocalypse and Space Mission. Can't promise we'll release them all, but this is at least our current idea. :)
You should be able to use pretty seashells and decorate your sand castle and maybe grow it for like a longer term happiness boost when ya see it for hard work and dedication
I think it would be cool if primary effects are shown with the same logos. And or a log that has the history with the symbol and a +- to be clear on reactions that may have happened to fast
Yes!!! That would be great! Nothing specific though. Like you said a simple log you could look at with like "@12:15 took a dive = +happy, + + + wet, - - temp.
A cursory Google search shows no results for people escaping an island on a log raft, despite the popularity of the trope. As this confirms the information I'd received previously and never investigated I refuse to investigate further. Basically taking that log raft would probably kill you as it's difficult to make a sea worthy vessel, difficult to provision yourself for any length of time aboard said vessel, and impossible to navigate without SOME manner of experience and knowledge of the area. Honestly I'd respect the game much more if it does kill you.
@@mxspokes Neat! The situation of the expedition is rather different from escaping an island, but I'll admit that it's a proof of concept. Thanks for the info!
@@Minish23 Yeah, that's a good idea. Maybe a better boat (or even a repaired ship from a shipwreck or something crazy?) Would give you different ending or different likelihoods of success.
My first playthrough, I made it to the wetlands, but was lacerated badly, bleeding out was maxed, in severe pain always, high fever always, and had to stop like twice a day at least for 2 hours because of depression. Finally starved to death from that mandatory depression waiting. But still... Had a freakin' blast!
huh i notice the spear fishing description highlights "experienced" so maybe it only has a good chance to catch anything after you've put a fair bit of work into it?
Super cool-looking game, I'm fighting my knee-jerk urge to buy it immediately! You betcha' I'll be watching daily to help me make a more informed decision. Love the commentary and gameplay, keep up the awesome work man :)
Nice way to finish off the episode. Looking forward to seeing what the next episode will bring. After seeing the first episode I went and bought the game myself.
Gotta remember you can carry stuff between locations using the 6-slot hand on the bottom where you kept your sharpened stone. You were looking for more fibers to build the shoes in the beach, but you could've brought over the fiber cord from the jungle outskirts.
The fire seems to have an extenguish button on it, could be good to only keep it lit when actually cooking and possibly at night when sleeping instead of all day with how resources seem finite.
So I noticed the coconut meat gives you barely any diarrhea but four times the amount of food as a crab or conch since you get two coconut meat from each. And since you have charcoal now you could fill up the food bar and then eat the charcoal to get rid of the diarrhea. Since time is a big factor coconut is the best food so far! Also loving this mini series, I've been waiting for this episode!
I'm *slightly* disappointed you can't eat the aloe. I'm pretty sure it should have some sort of water content and they put it in water and stuff so? I also wish the length of the different bars relative to each other was more standardized. So you know how long things take. Another game idea! Perhaps an energy bar might be a good balancing tactic? Having a limited number of actions would force you to think harder about what you want to do, and it might incentivize people like Reto here to sleep and help maintain their health.
I think the game mechanics are great - i just feel like everything is a little too big and takes up too much room. If you had an option so you could scale the HUD half the size or something, it’d be nice to see everything you had access to rather than scroll to see if you had it.
This game has solid mechanics, seems like the devs are great at that. I think the interface could be better though. Not about graphics but convenience.
I can say from experience: Being in the water makes sunburns worse. 2 hours over 2 days at scout camp gave me a 2nd degree burn on my neck, couldn't go back into the water until it was gone.
would be nice if you could do some stuff at night (like cutting open a coconut, or making stuff) by firelight, maybe add a small chance to hurt yourself. and maybe be able to make a torch you can carry around that will let you for example harvest aloe vera or explore at night
about the crushed conch, I've made it all the way to day 18 and haven't seen any use for them yet - but conch is pretty easy to find. Everything else has at least a little bit of use so I say to hold on to everything. There also seems to be some amount of RNG when learning blueprints, some are guaranteed but I haven't seen the raft appear even though I've seen it in other runs
It would be kinda interesting if when you left a crab on the beach, and took a walk somewhere that it could be gone when you get back (you could kill it to have a better chance of it sticking around, but scavengers might grab it while you are gone).
Just a few ideas, maybe more coming in further videos. I don't have the game, so I don't know if some of the stuff I'll mention is implemented, or planned: - Lemongras helps against diarrhea in southern and eastern Asia. It is also known to calm the mind down. So, maybe if there are depression elements implanted, lemongrass may help. And lemongrass extract is also used together with water for a very thirst quenching beverage. Lemongras oil is used as insect repellent.
If it’s not a thing already I think it’d be really neat if you could make a sling in this game. I mean sure it requires more practice then throwing stuff bug after you get the practice it it’s way more reliable then just throwing.
this is just simply tom hanks: cast away, the game. my only problem with this game is that the comfort building degrades real fast that it discourages me from building one. I can just sleep in the cave anyway.
Hey what happened to the slice dice series? I thought it would be pretty popular! Maybe we’ll see it again in the future. Also Inscryption will be an awesome series when it comes out!
Slice & Dice was never a series, it was a one-off in my Let's Try series. Inscryption I will certainly do a series on when it is out barring tech issues.
For part one of series you did a review of, it might be good to spend ~5 minutes explaining the mechanics again for people starting the series without watching the review
This will sound a little mean-spirited, but I think you're being your own worst enemy here. Slow down and read the text presented to you entirely... you're missing some very obvious things that are being told to you outright because you're just blitzing through the game without really paying attention to what's being told to you. Yes, some of it is experimentation, but you're overlooking things that are straight up written in text right in front of your eyes. There's no time limit for a reason. You're not in a hurry. Slow down and read everything completely.

You should put that video in the playlist.

If TB gives you diarrhea then your digestive system needs a major overhaul.
Or maybe taco bell is garbage food.
