It’s been like almost twenty years since I last played this on my dads computer, but the soundtrack STILL gets stuck in my head randomly. I had to finally look it up just to actually hear it again ✋😭
I still use it in my sleep playlist. Towards the end, when I am ready for something to take me that last step from mentally still and relaxed to actually asleep.
I'm from India . Mr sister studied in government school years ago they gave a small Linux laptop like thing to students 1 or 2 for entire class of 60 . They circulate it .i used to remember playing this game on that with my sister this brought me memories
Is it me or anything feels the eerie atmosphere of this game? Maybe it's the music, the everlasting emptiness and solitude, maybe lights (especially sunset does that for me). I really love the music. Very magical, very fitting. If it wouldn't be there, I wouldn't play it much. Well, I hate that synthetic bass guitar sound, but overall it's great.
Probs the fact that there is no interaction between Tux and the player other than him gliding down a mountain -- as well as the environment is empty. It's all quite isolating, and that's scary to a child lmao.
I played tux Racer when i was 12... I am 29 years old now and Main menu music suddenly appeared in my mind and I had an extreme need to search for the song xd
LMAO just realized this is the game I used to play on my laptop when I was 8 years old. Didn't even know that my laptop had Linux. I just thought it was "different" lol I lost that laptop because someone broke up my parents car and stole everything there. Including my Nintendo DS with Mario Kart.
That sounds like some kind of coming out. "From early age I was quite a normal kid, but I felt there's something different about me. Then, when I got to the high school, my mates were going out with girls to play Windows games and I never understood their interests. I tried it with some girl, but I didn't enjoy that at all. I told her I prefer girls with tux and she told me it's ok and I may be LGBT not realizing it yet. And yeah, that turned to be true. Linux, GNU, Bash. tmux."
The memories are just flooding back to me right now! This along with super tux, super tux kart and Pingus were my shit back when we had free computer time back in primary school. God I wanna replay these! Now I’m almost 18, and I played this back when I was like 7 or 8 years old.
@@nikolasgunadi765 I used to play it on a windows xp computer in primary school. If i didn't have access to it I would play flash games on my mum's mac.
man when I played this it was running on some slower than 400mhz system that could only run the game at double digit fps (there's a decimal point in between those digits) and the music actually played slower, so this doesn't even fit my nostalgia of this game because the music sounds too sped up lol to my memory 0.7x playback speed in the menu and 0.5x ingame sounds right which is quite telling to what kind of PC we're talking about
I remember playing this in my computer class in elementary. I remember the graphics looking a lot cleaner, though. Then again, that's just how I remember everything from back then.
HOLY SHIT I WAS LIKE 2 YEARS OLD last time I played this game All my memories from that time are so fuzzy but MY GOD .... That music still remained in my heart for all of this time ... every since it started I fully remembered it
I played this game with my dad when I was about 6 or 5 years old. I freaking loved it so much, I played non stop. That was also the time that I got my first computer (Qimo OS). I also played Tux Kart and I loved that game too. Ahh... Nostalgia..... Probably my favorite moments as a kid too.
I played a lot of Tux Racer as a child (I'm 26 years old). This music haunted me, but it only came back to me through bribes. thank you for letting me listen to it again!
With AI we don't need to wonder anymore: "If a 10-kg penguin traveling at 200 km/h hits you and comes to a stop over 5 cm, the impact force would be approximately: 308,640 N (Newtons). Equivalent to 3,150 times the penguin’s weight in g-force. This would cause severe damage to both the penguin and the unlucky recipient of the collision."
I had totally forgotten this when suddenly like a week ago i had a really weird dream about penguin racing that was oddly nostalgic I then searched up penguin racing and found this video and now i remember how much i used to play this. Thanks for making this video
I oh so very vaguely remember this game. I must’ve had it on my Windows XP when I was very little, and it probably wasn’t on there for long. My older cousin worked on our computer(s) way back then, and he might’ve installed it. The only memory I can recall with this game is getting stuck in a pit near the end of the race. Can’t confirm if that really is a thing in this game, I did just go on eBay and bought a copy, hope to relive the memories of playing on the computer with my brothers. This one is buried deep in the back of my head. Kind of a miracle I was able to find this video. I typed “penguin sliding pc game” haha
That's what I call nostalgia! I'm pretty sure I've played this and Minesweeper on an old Acer laptop running Linux my mom had from work when I was only a couple years old!
I remember playing this when i was like 4 or 5...and i wasnt racing...i was just exploring the place and i didnt know it was supposed to be racing since i didnt know english at that time
I always remembered this game of a penguin sliding down an icy hill on the primary school old coloured macs but I could never find the name of it until now!
Nostalgia mesmo! Lembro que joguei esse game a primeira vez na minha primeira distro Linux: Conectiva Linux versão 9, que veio numa revista que comprei em uma banca la em 2003 quando voltava da escola, era meu primeiro contato com Linux. Ainda tinha aquele jogo tipo tetris : Frozen Bubble .... Oh tempo bom! =)
im trying to find a game i was playing when i was really young, it was on the windows xp, i don't remember the name of it but i do remember it had the minesweeper icon with a skull on it, it was animals fighting they had like a gun, bomb just like the icon i was talking about and a rocket launcher. as of 2019, my brother upgraded it to windows 10 so i cannot find the game anymore.... I really want to play this game because it was really fun
I played this for the first time back around 2004 when Linux Mandriva was Linux Mandrake. I had it on dual boot with Windows 98, my favorite OS over Windows XP.
I think so I already played this game Listening to it's music It's making me get so much nostalgia just in a few seconds Bro it gave chill's now I just want to play the game
My childhood beat friend had this game and I have vivid memories of us taking turns playing it with her and her sister on Sunday afternoons after church. They had a large corner computer desk and I would sit on top of the desk and watch during her turn. ❤️ I didn't know what it was called and just randomly remembered it just now nd googled penguin sliding down hill game 🤣 Was happy to find this
Mano no computador da minha escola tinha esse jogo, eu lembro que todo mundo entrava correndo na sala de informática pra pegar os computadores que tinham ele

The good old days
I still use it in my sleep playlist. Towards the end, when I am ready for something to take me that last step from mentally still and relaxed to actually asleep.

Right? Especially when playing at night, when you have the view of distant mountains in the darkness.
Probs the fact that there is no interaction between Tux and the player other than him gliding down a mountain -- as well as the environment is empty. It's all quite isolating, and that's scary to a child lmao.
Bro this is so true, it's the music and the everlasting solitude you talked about. I love the music but there's something creepy to it lol
This is soooo true man!
I played tux Racer when i was 12... I am 29 years old now and Main menu music suddenly appeared in my mind and I had an extreme need to search for the song xd
The 1st game I ever played
Same ;)
That's my first PC game I have ever played (even before I had one at home). I don't remember what was my first one, but probably something on Atari.
Man, this game was a gem and the soundtrack was just too damn good.
I can feel the pain in his belly when he's on rocks
😂 I was thinking the same thing when I played so that's why I always put him the snowboard

Nothings changed. Still the best Linux game
Yeah but steam has proton and stuff, of course this is still the best game of all time

Graphics looked very clean on CRT monitors.
