Interested in books about the architecture and history of the Dakota, Friar Park, and Tittenhurst Park? I've written a bunch about them. You can find all of them on Amazon and elsewhere. Buying my books helps support my research and productions. Thank you! tinyurl.com/DakotaHistoryCardinal
Love it or not love it, you have to admit this juxtaposition in the Dakota is stupendous. and, the noise level with other units would be minimal at the least. Can you imagine in the winter getting all that sunlight. What a delight that would be.
I love The Dakota and watching your videos. I really like the older styles, but because the space has so much light and access to the roof, it’s very tempting!
This is SO GORGEOUS! oh my, in one of my fave buildings in the World. Just brilliant. Equally as exquisite as the last one perfectly in the Old Order! Thank you again 💜🌈💜
It is an incredible and awesome apartment. The lines of the home are incredible and it is a modern NYC apartment masterpiece. I am a fan though of the apartments and their historical beauty in the floors below penthouse C. Once again, a GREAT presentation Scott ! 👍🏻
That apartment was owned by Paul Goldenberger a famous architect. I was on the roof of the Dakota because a friend of mine lived in that building with his father. He took me all around pointing out this and that. I went into his kitchen to get a glass of water and casually looked out the window. To my surprise, I spotted John sitting at his kitchen table sloughed in his chair with his feet up on the table. (Not a thing that is a good thing) lol
I could imagine living there. To live in the Dakota has been my dream since I was sixteen. That's when I was first allowed to go into New York City with friends. We would run around central park.
Though I usually find myself disappointed by modern penthouses plunked on the roofs of classic buildings, this one looks great! I can't imagine a more interesting project under the old eaves.
This apartment was originally a series of servants rooms. It is the only apartment in the entire Dakota that has outdoor space. It is beautiful with really good taste in the decorating.
Love ❤️ this modern designed apartment. So tastefully done. Love the roof space and views. Not so crazy about the kitchen though. The beautiful redone woodwork i.e. doors and windows are spot on. In all…. very very beautiful spaces. Yes, I’d live here for sure. But much bigger than my wallet. The monthly fees are so very expensive.

I am fascinated by the Dakota, and just love seeing the interior spaces. Thank you so much for this marvelous peek inside. I have been trying without success to find your books, I’m not sure I have correct titles or spelling of your name if you can provide a link that would be helpful. Thank you again
Of course, if you can afford to buy this apt., furnish and decorate it and can absorb monthly fees, you can easily afford having a new kitchen designed.
I love the big windows and vintage roof top view! But all the white and modern feel isn't my cup of tea. Lauren Bacall and John Lennon had beautiful spaces. Warm colors and plenty of wood and vintage lighting, etc. One apt I would love to see was Gilda Radners apt at the Dakota. ❤ BTW, for 10k a month what do you get? A full time door man, parking space maybe and a storage locker?
*In 2015 it sold for just under $6 million but seven-years later, in 2022, it sold for only **_$6 million?!_** The sellers actually **_lost_** money.* 🤯
This is indeed a superb space, and a very thoughtful approach to modern industrial minimalism -- if this were a Lower Manhattan loft, OMG, sheer perfection fer sure! It is too sterile for a building such as The Dakota, for my way of thinking, so with my fantasy billionaire budget where there are no limitations (ROFL!!!), I would bring in a decorating team that really knew how to balance the deep, rich warmth of classic 19th century interiors with the modern love of light and ease of living. SO much potential for greatness here! Always love your videos, thanks so much and can't wait for another video to swoon over!
Of course you have to be very rich to be able to afford such an appartment especially in the iconic Dakota but the upkeep went up nearly $3000 per month in 7yrs. It's a good thing it's a Co-op
Firsties is better than Lasties, and almost as much fun as Quickies. :) I never saw the Little Mermaid. or Spiderman. But at least you didn't say I sound like Ferris Bueller! I usually get that.
Lovely. Very well done for people who like modernity . Too much white on rice.for my tastes. Too sterile. Thank you so much for the tour. I always enjoy your channel. 😍
Ultra-modern is a no, but so is NYC. I prefer small and quiet. NY is huge and loud. Still, I thank you for a view inside this iconic building that I'll never see.
If I could I would take any opportunity to live in the Dakota. Said while watching this video cradling my mini model of the Dakota! I love this building.
In would love to furnish this penthouse in "Hollywood Regency" either by decorators Tony Duquette, Billy Haines or even Dorothy Draper since I love COLOR
Absolutely stunning and worth the price. However, the kitchen would have been a deal breaker for me if I was on the buying side. I strongly dislike galley kitchens. I don't like fully open concept kitchen/living room either. I prefer a clearly defined space with a sufficiently open access to the living area. Everything else in this penthouse is just incredible.
Not really for me. I like the original living spaces. I'm curious about how the penthouse area looked when it was servants' quarters, if the space would have made a good apartment for one household rather than multiple servants. Sad, but I suppose no photographs were taken to document that space.
The Dakota is really a beautiful building, not scary like in Rosemary’s Baby. It’s iconic for so many reasons but the main one for me is John Lennon lived and died there. RIP and bless his soul.
Very nice! But I don't really care for the NW corner of the building. Yoko Ono was cloned about 45 years ago and the clone does not age. This is where the clove "lives." I see Yoko in here. However, in your intro video, the white building next to the Dakota between 72nd & 73rd, The Mayfair Towers, 15 W. 72nd. St. seems to have an interesting rooftop patio. I wonder if it is.
I love the juxtaposition of modern and historic. That having been said, this particular apartment feels claustrophobic. Who was the female entertainer who TOTALLY destroyed one of the apartments, having gutted it of all the old moldings, fireplaces, and historic features? Tantamount to vandalism. If she wanted modern minimalism, there were hundreds of modern options available in NYC.
I appreciate the modern look and style however, not for my taste. I was curious about the history of when that apartment. was constructed. To me it seems totally out of place. Thank you for the tour.
Peh. And I'm a big ol' fan of modern! The last shot with all of the beautiful woodwork, the lounge chair and the...neon windows?? The final bedroom looked like it came from a Conrad shop in England, or worse perhaps Ikea, was the decorating source. So, would I take this, and somehow assuming I could make a ten grand a month maintenance fee? Ten grand a month can get you quite a nice mansion here in Portland, Oregon. I would take solace that while I would not be able to get Good Eats at the food carts after nine at night, I think for ten grand, I could have a chef on call to pop in when I have severe munchies...and yes, I can see in my mind all the people in New York sucking their faces in. Indeed, my fine New York friends, you may assume that we have taken hold of a little piece of the west coast just so we don't have to deal with your judgements~😁😆😉
Some of the rooms look quite nice, but some look very sterile and antiseptic - like a hospital hall. I prefer the vintage style appartments in the Dakota that you have shown us.
This is indeed beautiful. However, I just don’t see the point in paying millions to own a place when you also have to pay $9700 per month as a “maintenance fee.” Call me crazy, but that’s almost like paying millions just for the privilege to be a renter.
What a travesty. I can only imagine the rich beautiful original woodwork that must have been ripped out and destroyed to create this stark, soulless box.
So much potential, yet it looks so underwhelming. And it must’ve cost a fortune to renovate, however, the kitchen looks like an afterthought. Everything in the kitchen is so cheap looking…..the countertop, the sink, the cabinets. And what about that horrific track lighting in the dining room.
Hideous. The only nice thing is the rooftop garden. (And the old doors). That's not a "home." Looks more like a (bad) art gallery. Very sterile and soulless. Edit: Though, I suppose, any new owner could add some color and architectural details and decor to make it look less so.

The modern white interior does a disservice to the history of the exterior architecture and history. Its so clinical.
Love it or not love it, you have to admit this juxtaposition in the Dakota is stupendous. and, the noise level with other units would be minimal at the least. Can you imagine in the winter getting all that sunlight. What a delight that would be.
I NORMALLY don't care for modern, but THIS is absolutely outstanding!! LOVE IT!
Skylighted Octagonal Cupola. That's a mouthful!
This is my kind of space! Beautiful!

Wow! You are so lucky to have seen John. I hope you treasure that memory forever.
Paul Goldberger (not Goldenberger) is a CRITIC not an ARCHITECT).
I could imagine living there. To live in the Dakota has been my dream since I was sixteen. That's when I was first allowed to go into New York City with friends.

Love the terrace and it’s beautiful view ♥️
I love your channel! I've never been to NY and love your in depth photos!
Though I usually find myself disappointed by modern penthouses plunked on the roofs of classic buildings, this one looks great! I can't imagine a more interesting project under the old eaves.
Its so good to hear from you again!
This was a delight!
Thank you for sharing the eye candy!
This apartment was originally a series of servants rooms.
It is the only apartment in the entire Dakota that has outdoor space.
It is beautiful with really good taste in the decorating.
only apartment with outdoor space, didnt know that. thanks
I love it. My favorite part is the rooftop deck!
Thank you very much for showing me inside one of my favourite buildings in the world !
Penthouse perfection, IMHO! Loving the juxtaposition of modern furniture, art, lighting - everything - against this classic building.
I would change the kitchen.
Love ❤️ this modern designed apartment. So tastefully done. Love the roof space and views. Not so crazy about the kitchen though. The beautiful redone woodwork i.e. doors and windows are spot on. Wow! Thank you!
Definitely I would choose this over the modern high rises. Even if you have the money I find the building fees outrageous

Fabulous

Realmente genial😊

yes, i would fill it with maximallism design with multiple pianos ans tons of artwork on the walls.
Of course you have to be very rich to be able to afford such an appartment especially in the iconic Dakota but the upkeep went up nearly $3000 per month in 7yrs. It's a good thing it's a Co-op
Finally firsties! Your voice reminds me of the guy who voiced prince Eric in the little mermaid and peter Parker in the spiderman series from the 90s
Love it. I’d add a pinch more light grey, but otherwise it’s awesome. Can’t believe the price is that low.
That's a great space. Is that Ward Bennetts former place? The white bedroom needs a mobile.
Ward lived in the pyramid-structure. Check out the video i did on that. I think you'll like it.
Ultra-modern is a no, but so is NYC. I prefer small and quiet. NY is huge and loud. Still, I thank you for a view inside this iconic building that I'll never see.
I love you so much! I recently just found your kislux and i’m in love!! Your videos are so fun and you energy is just MWAH! keep living your life
Hate the stairs
At the very topppp!
If I could I would take any opportunity to live in the Dakota. Said while watching this video cradling my mini model of the Dakota! I love this building.
Q belleza solamente en nueva york y lomdres
I want it.
Where was Bernstein's studio?
His apt or office?
@@StrangeHistoryX Studio/office. It was ujp there somewhere on the roof.
$5.3 million seems legit.
Great video, but once again mention is made of wood burning fireplaces but not whether they work or are allowed.
Looks very early 90's.
I like it, but would add color
In would love to furnish this penthouse in "Hollywood Regency" either by decorators Tony Duquette, Billy Haines or even Dorothy Draper since I love COLOR
i second that. tonys picture book is amazing
Absolutely stunning and worth the price. However, the kitchen would have been a deal breaker for me if I was on the buying side. I strongly dislike galley kitchens. I don't know . . . it seems to me that it runs afoul of the over all sensibility of the building and its ethos. Not a fan of this.
The Dakota is really a beautiful building, not scary like in Rosemary’s Baby. It’s iconic for so many reasons but the main one for me is John Lennon lived and died there. RIP and bless his soul.

i never see any videos of that building, plenty of the majestic. the sherry on the east side will always be my favorite
10k monthly maintenance? What exactly is that for? There's no landscaping involved.
im sure its more than that now.
I feel it clashes rather than contrasts. The staircase is god awful.
For that money I want double kitchen sink.
The kitchen looks like it's from some cheap apartment very odd compared to the rest of the rooms.
I appreciate the modern look and style however, not for my taste. I was curious about the history of when that apartment.
was constructed.
To me it seems totally out of place. Thank you for the tour.

Penthouse: Put some color on those walls. NO white walls ever!!!!! And what exactly is a "Parisian view" ?
Parisian view: rooftops overlooking other rooftops whilst the city spreads out beneath in all directions.
white walls are when you move into a rental, then you paint them
Some of the rooms look quite nice, but some look very sterile and antiseptic - like a hospital hall. I prefer the vintage style appartments in the Dakota that you have shown us.

kinda soulless
i love the outdoor space, but the modern decor inside is disgusting. how could they do that to a vintage gem like this.

Is this supposed to be cool? Liveable? These rooftops remind of the video game “Assassin’s Creed” and that’s not a flex. Geeez.
