What The Hell Happened To The Matrix Games?

- The Matrix is easily one of the best sci-fi movie franchises of all time, but I'll let you believe that The Matrix Resurrections doesn't exist if that is what it takes for my prior statement to remain true.
The Wachowskis siblings created a universe that's both rich and deep, along with characters that are both heroic and unforgettable. Between this and the game's litany of mind-bending sci-fi concepts, The Matrix seems to be a perfect choice to adapt into a video game. There's been no shortage of attempts at trying to bring this promising IP to the interactive medium, but that's all a story of the past. Jump to the current scenario, and there are not even rumblings of a new Matrix game which begs the question, what the hell actually happened to The Matrix games and by extension, will there be a next video game entry in this franchise?
Matrix is a perfect pitch for an open world game with lot of awesome aerial, ground and technological game play possibilities with current generation hardware. I really wish some AAA studio takes a que out of unreal engine 5 demo of matrix awakens and makes one hell of a matrix game
And honestly it can work either way.
Playing your own rebel, Neo, or some other character in the matrix!
This is what I've always wanted, and excellent open world superpower games have already proved it can be done well, Saints Row 4, Prototype, Infamous, Crackdown, etc. I would like a game that gives you the experience of being a freedom fighter set loose in a large city, with a variety of missions and dynamic dangers spread throughout. I think it would work better not being tied to the story of the movies directly, allowing more creative leeway. I might even have it take place in a previous version of the Matrix and have the player character be the One of that era, following their journey and power/progression curve.

It’s shame we haven’t gotten another matrix game because that would be really awesome and tons of fun to see another Matrix game especially with the unreal engine 5.
I’m convinced any game that actually looks good and is not a gay ass Fictional magical creature warlock game will not be released

if you still got an itch for a matrix game, i'd like to suggest the game "Sifu" which can be modded on PC into having some matrix vibes along with skins, giving you a perfect playground to learn kungfu as neo or trinity.

really a shame, I'm a huge Matrix fan since 1999, I have played the hell out of all those games you mentioned, I really loved everything Matrix related (including Resurrections), and I couldn't grab a hold of the demo since I am not a owner of a new gen console

The Matrix Games died with the last movie
I couldn’t finish the last movie, I dunno what most people think about it but jeez that movie was painful.
Enter the Matrix sold well because is was bloody awesome, I finished the game and the pure immersion into that universe was incredible, not just that but the narrative actually followed that of the 2nd movie even to the point you go on the freeway and have to catch Morpheus with the car when he gets knocked off the truck by an Agent. You even visit locations in the movie like the staircase where Neo has the fight and ontop of that the Witchowskis filmed 45 mins of footage specifically for the game. Gameplay was fantastic, personally I think the greatest movie tie in game ever.
Can’t believe a new game has not been greenlit after the incredible Matrix Unreal 5 demo, it’s a no brainer to me !!!
If they ported the "Enter the Matrix and Matrix The Path of Neo over to the Xbox Series X?" I would love to go through those games again. I really enjoyed those games. These games were very well done, especially for their time.
Get dev mode and put some emulators on your Xbox series s/x I’ve already played and beat both of those games again bought back memories

This is what I actually liked about Enter The Matrix. Idk why people want to play video game adaptations of a movie to just replay the same events you already saw onscreen. This is why I never really liked movie based video games. Why do I want to play a video game retelling the story/events of a movie I've already watched?? Especially when said movie is one I've watched as many times as The Matrix. It never made sense to me. Enter The Matrix at least had it's own story to tell and it's own set of characters you don't meet in the movies.

What they need to do is get Unreal Engine 5 to redo Path of Neo. Just imagine the same game but the visuals and graphics add a few new things to it man they would make a lot of money

Its SO dumb they had to rely on Matrix Resurrections "sales" to ensure they could make a future game. 😒

Into the matrix was amazing, and it showed us movie clips that were not in the matrix Reloaded the path of Neo was also amazing and at the time Internet wasn’t as big as it is now so no one paid attention to critics scores me and my friends adored both of these games.

Plus the last 2 games were almost complete failures. They're not gonna risk hundreds of millions of dollars only because of some fans' wishes. Especially since they have all of DC's IPs at their disposal guaranteeing a better success than a shot-in-the-dark Matrix game.
So I'm sorry but no, I don't think it's gonna happen anytime soon (if ever).
A modern matrix game would be like saints row 4....that game actually was the saints row cast in the matrix universe....you had a city simulation, superpowers , enough weapons to cause mayhem in the city and fun and zanny enemies..the game made you feel like flash, hulk and superman all at the same time...it is sad to see volition trashing this idea in the saints row reboot to make it a generic third person shooter...

I played the matrix online until the last day the servers were open. I honestly loved that game. Captured my matrix imagination. Miss it.

I do not understand how we haven't had a Matrix videogame in so long. It's a total no brainer. And with the nemesis system, WB Games, what the hell are you doing over there??
Sadly the games don't sell. That's the hard truth. So no, it isn't "a total no brainer". In fact it's a very smart move on WB's part to not produce any other game unless they somehow can feel it would be a massive hit. They risk losing a huge amount of money otherwise.
And let's be honest: after the travesty that was Resurrections they're not wrong imho.

I had Enter The Matrix for the GameCube and absolutely loved it. It really added to the second Matrix film.
Games? What happened to the movies? First one was amazing, second one pretty good, third one decent, and the fourth one is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. After that abysmal failure I think everyone has given up on the matrix universe.
There are some decent Matrix games but Matrix deserves a truly amazing game.

I went to Bestbuy a long time ago and they had Matrix:Online for $0.01. Not even joking. I bought it for a penny. The cashier was laughing.
I went home and played it for as long as I cared to. Seemed like some passionate players on there, but I got bored pretty fast.

Play saints row 4...you are literally talking about the same thing ...it has been done beautifully before ...saints row 4 was a beautiful matrix game with saints row cast....sadly we won't get another game like that again by the looks of it...

@@loaymahmoud1 ...well that is bad for you I guess...saints row 4 was the game where the series took a new direction..it was more of a superhero/ matrix simulator than a saints row game and it was really good for what it was...it did not go well with some...but do see a few gameplay videos of it...you might be missing out on a lot...if you want to see what a matrix game would be like..this is it...

@@tampaflbeastforlife _Path_ was really good and _Online_ was cool too. Like I said _Enter_ wasn't a "good" game tbh but it was also a nice experience mainly because I can't remember another game working like it did back in the day (a pretty neat movie tie-in).
So all in all...all three were nice experiences imo.

i think someone upcoming would be a better choice to make a matrix game rather than remedy or anyone else who already give a specific feel to their games.
i think a matrix game made by remedy would feel alot like max payne (which there is nothing wrong with but) i would much rather experience a matrix game that stands on it's own instead of looking like many of the other AAA games.
the best would be if it popped up out of nowhere like we all thought it did with the UE demo, completely unexpected, ready to be released (not early access) so it dosnt get over hyped, just, BAM, here is a trailer and trailer ends on "available now".
Thanks for the video it caught me up on what has been going on since I only got the very first game on the GameCube. I totally agree that the developers of control would probably be an amazing fit and do a great job. Unfortunately Every successive matrix movie was worse than the one that preceded it. The first one was amazing and honestly remains to this day to be my favourite movie of all time but I didn't really have much love for the following and the latest one is a forgettable mess. Because of the lack of success in the sequels it doesn't bode well for any future game to be made of the property. That's a shame as there is so much potential here, Especially if the developer is not rushed to hit some date defined by a movie.

Guardians of the galaxy
And Ironman but for some reason they flop

Matrix Resurrections was good enough to make its budget back & received good reviews from critics & audiences. Another open world game should have been made.

I don't think Remedy would be interested doing a game based on a licensed movie franchise. They like being more imaginative with their own unique game ideas. Just because Max Payne has bullet time is sort of a lame reason to want them to do a Matrix game.
I don't think WB would be interested in letting Remedy (or any other studio for that matter) develop a game they can perfectly make themselves. The sole idea of suggesting any other non-WB owned studio is ludicrous imo.
Got a PS5 a couple weeks ago. Was like I'll download that matrix awakened later. Went to do it tonight because for the first time ever, a vid of it was recommended to me on YT. Went to download it and the shit is gone

The Matrix is not one of the best sci-fi movie franchises of all time. It has one good movie. The Wachowski's are terrible filmmakers and somehow studios keep funding their projects because that one movie.
Matrix is the most convoluted series of all time. Best scene is when the girl dies.
