Two store employees in Short Pump honored at Board of Supervisors meeting

Two store employees in Short Pump recently found about $90 in cash. What they did with it caught the attention of the Henrico County Board of Supervisors.
When Justice Elder and Robert Morris found the money at Sassy Jones Boutique, they knew they needed to find the person who had left it behind.
They contacted Linda Grantham, who had been shopping in the store with her 19-year-old son, Eric. Eric, described by his mom as having high-functioning autism, dropped the money he had been saving for months. He realized his mistake - and was extremely upset - when he tried to treat her to dinner.
Elder and Morris reached Ms. Grantham by phone as she and Eric were returning to their home in the D.C. area. She said the phone call was a full-circle moment.
“When you put good into the world, it comes back to you.” she said later.
The story made its way to Board of Supervisors Chairman and Fairfield District representative Frank Thornton, who invited Elder, Morris and the Granthams to the board's June 13 meeting.
“Here we are this evening to honor two angels. What happened with these two employees has a lot to say about Henrico and Sassy Jones,” he said, before presenting Elder and Morris with Henrico County Distinguished Community Service medals.
“We’ve been waiting for this moment for quite some time,” Elder said as he handed Eric an envelope filled with his cash. “We just wanted to give you guys the money in person.”
“I wish there were more people in the world like you,” Eric said. “You told the truth, and the world will be a better place if people tell the truth.”
