Thats how i feel. I wouldnt have been able to put my kid in that situation. Everyone speaks of her like she did something - I'm sorry but no. She was six. She went to school because her mom said go to school. It is HER PARENTS that deserve the metal of honor! For faith in humanity! For trusting the unknown. I'm sorry but we are putting a bit too much emphasis on a kid being a kid. Her PARENTS were the brave ones.

akua marfo please black people are not suffering because they are black. They are suffering because white people say black people are not civilized, and did not contribute to civilization. Which is a lie. And also because Everything black people want to get belongs to white people. Black people don’t have their own.
Anybody that is in this position, will always be ridiculed and make fun of. Everything about them will be ridiculed and make fun of. Including their skin color and appearance. That is why black appearance is being made fun of today.
They go to white people for jobs, to rent apartments, insurance, etc. While while people do not do the same. White people fear that they will loose everything they own and dominate to black people. They are fighting to preserve what is under their control from going to the hands of black people.

The racism back then was unbearable, Ruby and most of these people are still alive today, that’s why I cannot understand why people say “it’s in the past get over it” , I’ve never seen or heard of people saying to soldiers or veterans that have PTSD “it’s in the past get over it,” or say to Jewish people “the holocaust was in the past get over it”
America has such an ugly past, and unfortunately most people want to ignore it and ignore what’s going on now. Instead of trying to see someone else’s point of view they reject that any racism is going on in today’s world. It’s sad that most adults can’t sit down and talk about racism in our country. 🙁

A lot of people benefit from racisim so in many cases they don't want it to end. People need to come to the realization that this world profits from evil. Racial profiling from police gives the police work to do, harassing black people while they're driving - giving them tickets, BUSINESS. Prision for petty crimes, ALL BUSINESS TACTICS. Targeting black youth is a business. Racisim, which is psychological abuse/trauma to black people, creates the stress that leads to cellular damage that creates highblood pressure, diabetes, and other issues produces a demographic for the pharmaceutical companies to target black people for BUSINESS. Racisim is business. Its hate with a purpose. Very low vibrational behavior from evil people.

I can remember watching this on the news at the time. The words they used were not bleeped out back them because white people used those words daily toward POC who were minding their own business and not doing anything wrong to anyone. Ruby had a large crowd verbally attacking her daily, but I'm sure she had experienced this vitriol by smaller groups while she was outside playing or walking anywhere because racists are filled with hate and have no problem attacking a child. Many of these people are still alive and still see themselves in these videos. I hope that they feel the shame that they should feel that they could ever treat anyone like this let alone a child, but I doubt they've changed one bit. 70 million people just voted to return to this.

Democrats started the KKK and Democrats did not vote for ending slavery. We need to remember history and not just the good. History has been lied about so much people don't know what to believe. Trump supporters love Jesus Christ. I am so happy that segregation ended. (At least its mostly ended in California.) Ruby is a brave hero. She should be recognized. And when there are people like that student at the University of Virginia going on camera to tell white people they have the whole campus which implies anyone that isn't white somehow doesn't also have the whole campus despite attending that University, it seems to me like Ruby Bridges needs to be talked about more. So very brave, an inspiration of her courage and determination, strength. She walked to that school w dignity, and bravery, and a beautiful smile. A little girl who just wanted an education and faced all kind of cruelty, traumatism just because of the color of her skin. How stupid can be her oppressors?

Yup! Nothing more shameful than grown folks who don’t know how to act like adults. Respect for others and manners is something that should be taught from the time they’re 5 years old and heading to kindergarten.

That small girl was SO SO SO SO BRAVE and a beacon for change. Wow it has me crying. We never had segregated schools in UK not in my lifetime or my mother's or my nanas.. but this girl paved the way for integrated schools in the usa. It does still happen today even in the UK. Back when my son was born in 2005 he had the n word called him a few times in pri.ary school and high school. Its starts with the parents. Teach your kids better!

This is the history that a lot of people don't want to talk about today or don't want taught in schools. It is however a part of the real and truthful history of this country and it was only 63 years ago. Truth will not be denied. No matter how much some might want to do so. Peace.

She said " if we are going to get past our racial differences it's going to come from our kids" Agreed💯. If children learn the right way they would adjust and the younger generation of today is living proof of that. Standing up to their racist old school family members and applying pressure like little Ruby did. Much respect to them 🙏🏾. Of course It'll never be a perfect system but we shall continue to elevate bar none!

Her courage is termed Brave because she was born to blaze the path for others to follow suit. Note she was born to break that ice reference 1corn 10:13. It says Our Father will not let us be tempted above what we can't bear or overcome and He made an escape route for her. That is why no evil attempts, poison or angry mobs could stop God's covenant upon her life manifesting. Going forward from here, what are the lessons derived to deter a reoccurence or provoked flasbacks. Peace !

I was there. Not at Ruby's school but at the Birmingham church bombing, which was much worse. I saw the bodies of the four girls being carried away on the stretchers. I also witnessed friends, parents, other adults saying they deserved it: this wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for 'outside agitators' (that's the word we used back then).
If you haven't heard the song "Birmingham Sunday," it's readily available.

Ruby is the same age as my mom, but when we were taught about segregation or late Jim Crow era, we were ALWAYS presented with black & white pictures. The way our history books portrayed this/how our teachers explained it, was that it happened SOOOO long ago, when it is only two generations removed from mine. Have you ever noticed how you've seen a TON of pictures of Marilyn Monroe in color, but almost every single one of Martin Luther King was shown in black & white?? Marilyn is older than MLK (although, not by much). Is it starting to make sense?? We're purposely shown these images in B&W so it appears as if it was so far removed from modern day.
I sat down & talked w my mom about segregation/how Ruby is her age, and she told me that right before she had entered highschool, in DENVER, schools were STILL segregated, and her class was one of the first (in the area) to have both black and white students together. They would bus a group of black children into her school, and bus a group of white children over to the black schools downtown. I've never had these talks with my mom before, so it was shocking to hear that she had experienced this first hand.
Yes, when we were taught about segregation, teachers/history books gave us dates, but the language used to describe it made it sound like it was a much longer time ago.
I highly suggest sitting down with your parents, grandparents and great grandparents (if your fortunate enough to have them around still) and have a talk with them about their experiences during these times. Their stories might shock you, & it might give you a better understanding of how recent these kinds of things happened.

I'm the same age as Ruby, and admired her when I was also a little girl who loved to read. However 1) I'm mostly white (my maternal grandfather was from Trinidad, and I also have several Indigenous family members and 2) I'm not from the US South). I still remember the photos and the Rockwell painting, but back then the news reports did not include the hateful language and death threats against a little girl my age...
