This is the first dubstep song I've played to, which gave me the freedom to compose my own drum part and play what I felt would suit and complement the song in each section, instead of choosing to play each song note for note like I have with my other TH-cam covers.
'Try It Out' features a huge slow half time 'mosh' feel that is great to just sit back in the groove, let all the parts really breath and lay into your drums when needed. I actually hadn't heard this song until I saw my friend Cobus do a cover of it a couple of months ago, which was also great to see him write some great drum parts embellishing here and there but then also playing with intensity in the heavier sections. certainly more technically proficient.
The thing about Cobus's new drum cover series is that he is intentionally toning it down, as a more "Back to the Basics" feel (He says as much in his description for his cover of this song.) So comparing the talent of the two drummers with this song is exceptionally difficult.
Different cos' i can't tell which is better.
If you define better in regard to: technicality, dynamic ability, and musicality (which is what I define it as with musicians) - he is absolutely leagues better than Cobus. That is not a dig at Cobus, it just is what it is.
For anyone versed in percussion, the levels of play are completely different between the two. If you asked Cobus, I'm almost 100% he would agree.
Man, there's a distinct difference between listening and watching you play this versus playing along on my kit. Holy %$#@, it is a lot more fun to play! Thanks dude.
