Just gave this a try in Premier 2020 Contractor Edition sample file and it worked, with multiple entries and with the class and name column deleted, using Excel 2016 on Windows 10. I had issues importing at first, but I think it was how I was saving the original iif file. The key was once I made changes in your template and saved when asked again to save upon exit, I'd say no. If I said yes, saved to csv and then changed the extension, the file would not import - operator error☺. Hector you have helped me manage so many projects efficiently over the years. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us!

This looks really good. I am using Access to assemble information maintained by different people. It looks like either the macro or the program would work great. We are using QB Pro 2018. Does the Pro work with all versions of QB? Or do I need an updated version?

I found a cheap payroll software that does 941 w-2 and state returns also. There software generates an Excel file with all the payroll deductions. If I take my down'loaded Bank of America Excel credit card statements and I put them into the IIF file template, how does quickbooks know where to put this data? I have lots of accounts (especially other credit card accounts) in my Quickbooks folder. It's also unclear what constitutes a transaction. Is each individual credit card charge a transaction or does this have something to do with date?

Hello Hector. We are using QuickBooks Desktop Contractor 19.0. We just started using a third party payroll company to handle all things payroll. We are trying to import our first payroll file and we are not sure how to import the job costing information (from Item list). The journal entry they have provided only includes Job Names and Class.
Journal entries can’t include items, only accounts, jobs, and classes. To use items you would need some major workarounds using a check instead of a Journal Entry.
Hello Hector...quick question. I'm trying to import multiple JEs at a time. I have classes included on these JEs, however, some are not being reflected in QB. It seems to not work ONLY in the 1st lines of each JE, which is the TRNS line but it is correctly showing for all the split lines (SPL). Importing with simple GL names like Electricity is simpler. Does the IIF lose the · ? Or does it change it to something else?

Hi, I am trying to test out importing a JE, and it defaults to "text(Tab delimited)' when attempting to save it. I noticed even when i opened my template to work on, it only says 'Journalentry -Excel;, not journalentryIIF - Excel as it does in yours, so i'm wondering if i'm having an issue downloading the template it in the first place. This is not allowing me to import it correctly as there is error.
To add to this, in case i'm confusing, when i am working off the template and try to close it, it asks to if i want to save changes to my "journaltemplate(1)IIF' so assuming i have successfully downloaded your template, but it wont successfully save due to the default save file type.. Hello, I receive the error: "Error on line 4: Imported record has an invalid date. It should be MM/DD/YY." I use this format, but it doesn't work... Could you please give me an advice to solve this error?
Remember that IIF is not a supported format by Intuit, so there is really no way to troubleshoot beyond what the error messages say. I would say, Check the date formatting.
I have all the account names entered correctly, however when I import it still sets up new bank accounts with the exact same name as the liab and expense accounts.
Hector Garcia CPA They are, in fact I imported a Iff file from my payroll provider which set up the accounts as banks, so I edited them so they are now the proper type (expense, liab). When I imported the next payroll IFF file, it set them up again as bank accounts.

In the current 2019 version, Trnstype Journal will not work. Try General Journal and it will work :)

You need to turn off the “make expenses billable” preferences, the macro doesnt make them billable by default

There is a limit to the number of lines that can be imported... is limited to 1000

You can’t use numbers and names in the IIF need to be either/or
