    Well, the front legs are fingers. The back legs are toes. That's what we call them.
    Bird wings are like arms, bat wings are like hands. Comparative anatomy.

    • @makaylakraus1897
      @makaylakraus1897 5 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      the bottom portion of a horse's legs is a single toe, not the whole thing. their carpal bones are comparable to the base of our hand. from there, it is like a single middle finger. so horses are constantly either flipping the bird of flipping the middle toe.

    They left off the best part - it's the middle finger, so horses are perpetually upside-down flipping you off!

      makes sense, considering most animals that posses a middle finger, have it as their longest

    Johns Hopkins of University fame was named after his grandad, another Johns who was named Johns because that was his mom's maiden name and they just didn't drop the 's'. Now you know, have a good day!

    • @emmadavis535
      @emmadavis535 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      And if you apply to Johns Hopkins. And you spell Johns without the s. You will probably not get in.

    • @CodfishJoe
      @CodfishJoe ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I always just assumed there were multiple people named John, probably a father and son, who founded it. A single person should not be named Johns

    • @hp8685
      @hp8685 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CodfishJoei assumed it was two separate surnames. like a Dr. Johns and a Dr. Hopkins teamed up to found a university

    Hi, horse vet assistant here! So horse legs are metacarpals (front legs) or metatarsals(back legs)
    They used to be much much smaller, but they grew to be huge through evolution and adaptation. Their front knees are actually their wrists, and back knees are actual ankles

  • @statelyelms
    @statelyelms ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For those also suitably terrified its not quite the whole leg? But what you'd think is the horse's knee is derived from the same structure as our wrists, so, their forelegs are half hand-with-one-finger and half arm

    I honestly think of of the things that makes The Boys so funny is that you can tell they’re siblings so much, like, this sounds like something mine and I would all say.
    Really good animation, by the way.

    This was my first episode of MBMBAM, (also my first podcast, so I was already like ehhhh what's a podcast??) and I have been in love with the show since. This episode is my all time favorite (this one and the sleepy time ASMR one 😂) it's just the right amount of hilarious, weird, and This Knowledge Will Fuck You Up. I remember it every time I see a horse.

    • @KairuHakubi
      @KairuHakubi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      now hang on, the fetlock is the _knuckle_ and the bone after that is the finger.
      there's a whole-ass palm between your wrist and your finger, and that is the.. whatever horse part you call it that you kneel on.

    So, I guess the opposite of a horse is a centipede. Hear me out:
    Every part of a centipede is leg holders and legs. Antennas? Legs. Mouthparts? Legs. Ovipositers? Legs. Fangs? Legs. Even the leg holders, the head and body sections, only grow when new legs are added.
    They are inverse horses.

  • @devinschwarz

    Maybe it's 2 Johns and 2 Hopkins, like a law firm they wanted all their names in there, but like it would look wordy to have "John, John, Hopkin and Hopkin" so they just pluralized both "Johns Hopkins"

    Their LEGS aren't fingers. Their FEET are.

    • @jburtson

      Everything below their second leg joint is homologous to wrist/hand/fingers

    • @TheComfyCushion
      @TheComfyCushion 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Jonathan Burtson only the lowest two bones are analogous to finger bones. But the animatic implies that everything from the elbow down is finger, and the boys seem to believe that everything from the shoulder down is finger, which it is not.

    Vestigial fingers are still left on the “calves” as small nubs.
    Also, what’s less horrifying: all fingers fused into one to walk on or one big finger to walk on?

  • @ellanelson7477
    @ellanelson7477 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The "knee" of a hoses font legs is structurally the same as our wrists, and the hoses back "knees" are structurally the same as our ankles. So the horses distal limbs are basicly fingers.

    You guys are real special... The horse's finger (or tow) starts far lower than you think. What you're calling the finger is actually both the hand and finger (for the back its a foot and a toe). Look at a dog skeleton and it won't seem so strange.

  • @quertie420
