Would recommend they get this thing on wheels along with a recharge station it can dock to automatically.
vidaoxx You missed a vide You missed a video call from Ijazshah. o You missed a video call from Ijazshah. call from Ijazshah. x
"I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that."
They made it look seamless. We're not there yet. But I really, really liked the face tracking during a video call.
What they didn't show was the thing sneaking into the bathroom to watch you shower.
How else do you expect him to pay for all that takeout you tell him to order?
stiimuli He is confined to within the reach of his wall outlet i'm afraid. But that is certainly what he'd do given the opportunity.
"hey baby, wanna come over and play with my robot"
this really makes me just smile : ) he seems so friendly, and while he is of course very limited in what he can do, he could definitely be very helpful around. I'm genuinely happy thinking of the idea of an always friendly little helper to brighten up your day at home.
it needs to talk in Majel Barrett's voice
This is terrifying.
Notice how rich, attractive and there is no conflict present within the family?
All wonder aside, the first person interface looks like a military computer interface for firing missiles at targets.
I do not believe, it actually understand human voice as good as in the end of the video
This is how robots are slowly entering our society. I can imagine how in 50 years our society will be like that from megaman series
I for one welcome our new robot overlord.
THAT ROBOT IS A BLOODY SPY
Oh how I want one... and I don't want anyone else to have one.
It will be odd finding one of these at a garage sale in 8 years.
wouldn't we all love that if it really happened
Good move skynet...
Sweet!
That's how Terminators get started
That's so cool!
...AND IT BEGINS
Can it show me advertisements that I have no control over!!
very cool
Amazing. Wave to the Future.
Thanks. I'll pass. Yeah--just what I want--a robot watching my every move.
did we learn nothing from the matrix!!???
I couldn't help but notice Brainiacs well hidden wall plug cord hmmmmm no thanks.
I was not impressed until I saw when it turned on the lights for u, then I was Like OH SHOOT
The article mentions a Kickstarter Campaign. The actual website says IndieGoGo. That's quite a difference. Please, if anybody at NewScientist even reads TH-cam comments (it certainly doesn't seem like it), fix that.
The campaign Link can be found here: www.indiegogo.com/projects/jibo-the-world-s-first-family-robot
Sounds a lot like Cryaotic. Next, they need make a Pewdiepie version
Anthropomorphisation to the max. You'll have to put him up higher for decent-looking photos though. I wonder how well what's shown here corresponds to what you actually get. It seems like Google Now / Siri in a robot, basically. Except that those two services rely on huge Cloud computing access. How would this robot calculate all the necessary information by comparison?
from the Indiegogo site:
"JIBO is an always-connected device that automatically stores its data in the JIBO cloud. If your JIBO ever needs to be replaced, once you connect your new JIBO to your account, it'll automatically have all the "knowledge" and skills that your old JIBO had."
whats the music for Jibo?
why when I watched this I thought of GLaDOS?
Wow, I imagine something like this would come out but not so fast. How much will it be though??
Nice
It has this The Onion vibe to it :D
I want one
i want one
Thats cute but it can control your house? O man what else can it control
Fuck Jibo, give me Wall-E
Get
me one
We're so screwed
does Zyper voice Jibo? They sound alike!
I expect this one to be more like any Speech recognition software nowadays, where you say "call Jay", it will call James. xD.
Or am I wrong? Does it have 100% accurate speech recognition software?
The NSA are getting smarter.
Nsa like this!
WHERE DO I BUY NINE
That's scary
So it's like HAL but you trade the super-intelligence for a non-homicidal demeanour? That sounds fair, I guess.
Him.
$499, $99 deposit for preorders.
Jaime Madrigal Are you serious.... "Bye me one"; go learn how to spell and come back and ask again.
The Government will love this...
the Do-Nothing congress can't even wipe it's own ass..I wouldn't worry about it
Cant any Android phone do this?
We're still decades away from a strong AI... This is nothing more than a chatbot with a camera.
well ...it's a start. Look at the first anything : the first cars , planes , computers and so on. It will take time but not so much as you think because this technology is evolving with lightspeed so to speak.
Yes but that's no justification to sell a product like this... Virtually useless, aside from the fact that it works like a camera on a tripod (So just buy a camera and a tripod)
rockcabbage well depends for who has money and wants to spend. But if they don't sell this little robot they wont progress . They have to start at somewhere , they can't release high tech from point 0 .
Or they could wait until the technology is advanced enough to create the product they advertise... this is like a scam, I bet $100 this is nowhere as functional as the ad makes it seem.
rockcabbage maybe , we'll have to wait and see for a consumer review of this robot.
How would Jibo react if I kicked or hit him!?
Probably transformers-out some legs, scream " I CANT LET YOU DO THAT" and brutally bludgeon you to death while boiling pitch streams down his eye socked type of thing, as a demonic aura radiates from within him.
OR not, who knows?
This is cool and all, New Scientist but this is a straight up unedited advertisement that you uploaded under your own account. Stop blurring the lines and violating the good faith agreement that your journalistic business has with its subscribers.
Re: the product- Great idea, what 'smart phones' should have been in the first place, instead of giving people tiny, mostly underpowered touchscreen computers in their pockets- which was a terrible idea.
please parody me.
nsa cam, the latest!!!
jarvis
Please someone post a Hal comment.
Bull.
The next step is adding a personality. I want cynical jibos, jibos with emotional insecurities, and jibos with good hearts but struggle to express themselves. None of this shallow crap!
Клас
yeah - great spyware!
how is it robot?
Glad0s
can I get one for free?
i do worry about the human race! people should really get out more!! ta!! life is short enjoy!!!
kinda creepy, just not sure about it.
AI is not that advanced yet. We still have another decade to go before anything like that is available.
this is creepy. constantly under surveilence. I see that it might be usefull but overlyfriendly behavior is somehow wierd. it's like having hal9000 at home.
-Jibo please get me some pizza and turn off.
-I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.
Of course I did. The point is that to serv his purpose as a companion/ masanger/ voicemail/ whatever it need to by at least on standby and connected to the internet. If you just turn it's power off it will not respond to your commands and will not be useful as a tool. I will just simply not by this because of this purposes. If you want one just go for it im not against.
And most of all i did made a joke by comparing Jibo to hal9000.
Enjoy internet.
STOP ! You should all stop and think about having one of these in your home, is it really that environmentally friendly , All this talk about whats happening in the world.
Like landfills running out of space for rubbish, what happens when it dies ? also if its got a cam how do you know it can't be hacked for spying on you, I know it looks cute but really we have to start thinking about the planet and our livelihoods before we buy..
Heath Kit Hero was the first in home robot not sum over priced piece of shit that just sits on its butt .
I can see that getting very annoying very fast. Too overtly friendly.
Not to mention the fact it's a machine constantly monitoring you. It seems they chose to completely ignore that factor. Though, I guess I'm not who they market this crap for.
xxDrain I rather have an automated home, I mean robotics that does not represent some servant or humanoid machine. But rather making the home itself somewhat automated. cleaning and making food etc, without talking to you. Just have a console with some gui menus with a touch screen. I see that more realistic instead of a walking can that would get confused by so many different surrounding.
*Me:* "Open the pod bay doors Jibo."
*Jibo:* _"I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that."_
