  • A new generation of community facilities, including two of Scotland's first secondary-level Schools for the Future, were opened today.
First Minister Alex Salmond performed the formal opening of the £36.8 million Lasswade Centre in Midlothian -- which includes one of the first secondary schools to open through the Scotland's Schools for the Future school-building programme, a swimming pool, library, and other community assets open to the public.
Lasswade High School previously had been rated as one of the secondary school buildings in the worst condition in Scotland until the Scottish Government pledged new funding in June 2010 of £21.3 million towards the project that will accommodate 1,480 pupils.
