    Hi David
    I was handed a bee hive and a package of bees in May, I had no experience or education on bee keeping so I’m glad I found your channel now I know what to look for and I’m ready to open the hive for the first time.
    Thank you for the info.

    I am liking your coffee talks more over time. I am not as outgoing and excited as you are naturally, but I do enjoy seeing how much you are. Don’t apologize or edit that part of you out of your videos.
    You give great information and have a great attitude and spirit. I appreciate your insight on bees and life!

    Hey I wanted to tell you the heartfelt life lesson of toxicity and The question " it depends " was pretty cool of you. that makes me want to watch you even more because, it shows what kind of a person you really are. so thank you for everything that you do

    I find your two word sentence very re-assuring. I give presentations regularly to clubs and bee schools and I have frequently remarked that the answer to almost any question regarding bees begins with "It depends". And it is very true. Every situation is different. Even two hives in the same environment can be different and the reason is "it depends". You're also right that it can apply to most of life's experiences. Thanks for validating my responses.

    I'm in southern Delaware. I have one hive that came from a small fall swarm. I wintered them in 2 -5 frame nuc boxes. I put a deep 5 frame on end of May. At that time, I saw a handful of shb's under the top cover. Last week I checked the top box and there were no shbs anywhere! I looked between the the middle and top- not a sign! 🎉

    Hey David, my hive is staying to be overrun with small hive beetles!!! I am using 3 it 4 beetle traps and there are sore beetles in them but not many. Last inspection i killed about 15 on the first frame! What can i do? I am using 2 deeps and a super and they are well populated.

    I've found a hive journal seems to work best. Track observations of what the hive is doing and make a record of the things you've done to the hive. Highlight dates and hive name. Works best for us

    I love, love, love your videos! Thanks for all the expertise. I’d like to see a video on honey gates. I got another 35 gallons of honey this year and am not happy with the gates I have. When the bucket is full, the pressure pushes some over the tops of the gates or the drips after closing slow down the process. Considering a small tank if it makes sense to get a high quality system.

    Will my smoke from my fireplace upset the bees.

    • @beek

      Doubt it, as it will be weakened by time it reaches down to the ground and where your hives are.

    I have a question about smokers :
    I have tried the pellets ( of several different types ) , burlap , pine straw and wood shavings . They don’t seem to be consistent enough for me . I watched a video concerning a smoker that works on the “ vape type “ . I heard that they are a bit expensive but I would like to get it a try . Do you know of any sources that sell the electronic smoker kits ?
    Thanks

      You may have seen me testing some in a video or two, but I love my traditional smoker.

      What works for me (excessive maybe) packing paper fist size just enough to light as a starter. Then one timberweed twist (dollar store) pack with dry pine straw after it’s lit and flaming. About 1/3 cup of smoker pellets and then finish packing with pine straw. It lasts well over 3 hours.

    Pollen patties, I cut the patties into 1/2" strips and spread them over the top of the frames. The Bees feed from both sides of the strip and consume it before hive beetles get to it.

    I noticed washboarding after a robbing attempt. My partner speculated that they're washing the robbing pheromones off. That sounds plausible enough to me

    If you use a push in queen cage, how long can she stay in there and the workers will continue to care for her and not try to supercede her?

    • @beek
      @beek  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A while, but a week is enough, and they may try to raise queen cells. They also try to dig under it to free her.

    The commercial hive boxes are not thick enough to have bees survive.you can make your own.thicker wood.more insulation.

    It would be infinitely more interesting if you let the bees live in the tree as it is, in 3 levels.
    Sure, bees in trees live longer. They manage themselves, swarm when they want and so on. I let my bees do mostly what they want and my colonies are pretty successful.

    • @beek
      @beek  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad that's working for you. Bees in trees never to good here in Illinois from year to year. Mites usually get them.

    Do it Anyway - by Mother Teresa
    People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered;
    Forgive them anyway.
    If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
    Be kind anyway.
    If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true
    enemies;
    Succeed anyway.
    If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
    Be honest and frank anyway.
    What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
    Build anyway.
    If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
    Be happy anyway.
    The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
    Do good anyway.
    Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
    Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.
    You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God;
    It was never between you and them anyway.

    I have some hive bodies that are/were dipped in wax and some that weren't. The only "scrubbing" going on is on the waxed hive bodies. The others have stain and urethane on exterior. Maybe I should get rid of the stained.
