Ever since I found the Arrietty clips, I watch them over and over and over. The song is beautiful, and the visuals are highly detailed like "Spirited Away". This is going to be another masterpiece!
Just got through watching it,another classic by Studio Ghibli...It amazes me that Studio Ghibli can out due themselves with each movie that comes out.....The music, the animation, the story is always excellent..
i love this book! i am so stoked they made an anime about it! i love how this studio takes some of my fave books, then brings them alive in anime! my first anime ever was in fact howls moving castle! right after i had read the book, i saw the movie, i was so happy,
I read the original book a while back, and when I watched the movie, I just bawled, I didn't know why. Honestly, this might be my favourite Ghibli film yet.
This movie is so great! I'm watching this everyday and I still can't get enough..still want to watch it more! I love everything in this movie, the story, the music, the characters, the graphics...everything! I'm a great fan of Shida Mirai and Kamiki Ryunosuke, and after watching this, I fell in love with them more! ^-^ great job!
I saw this in the cinema today and was afraid they would show it in English, but thankfully they did it in Japanese with French/Dutch subtitles. I think it's a great movie and very enjoyable!
I've been dying to see this movie since Ghibli first announced they were doing it. i loved the book "The Borrowers" as a kid and I'm SO excited to see this :D
Studio Ghibli is just a team of talented artists/music composers/etc. Hayao Miyazaki is just a director who oversees the development of the film. That is why the film Tales from Earthsea(directed by Hayao's son) has a very similar artstyle to Hayao's well-known films. It's the studio that's responsible for the artstyle, the director just controls quality, continuity, pacing, etc.
The heck? I just watched the 1997 film (for nostalgia's sake) not too long ago, and now I find out that Studio Ghibli is making an animated version? How absolutely wonderful =D
I own a live action version of The Borrowers, and love it, but this version looks amazing too. Sort of like Howl's Moving Castle, the book and the Ghilbli version are a little different and sort of stand alone from each other, but it's impossible to not adore both of them! I can't wait to see this!
this author always has really good cahracters in evey anime, they are all really cute, and this time, the male lead in this is super good looking, and his voice really fits him, its really cool, i cant wait for it to come on the big screen
Wonderful, beautiful movie. I just saw it and its the best movie Ghibli has made since Ponyo and Spirited Away. It is very creative and a wonderful movie for all ages.
When I first saw the trailer for this (it was the Disney version), I was über excited. At first, I recognized the animation style. Then the dialog and images seemed so familiar. I couldn't believe my eyes. I just kept saying, "No. They can't be doing this. This has to be a dream." The moment they said the word "Borrowers", I nearly jumped out of my seat to see if there was any way to reserve a ticket this early. I'm definitely going to see this. Now to find a date.
The movie gave me a feeling of tranquility, but as the same time made my heart skip a beat. "Shine, yet not so bright that blind your eyes" this is a Vietnamese proverb that fits it so well. I couldn't get my eyes off Arrietty for even one second...
I just watched this movie and suddenly i think Studio Ghibli is owned by god. Honestly this movie is a masterpiece it performs miracles where currant anime just throws in a boring joke or a harem plot line. Almost cryed at the end not because it was sad or anything just because it was so well played out.
So excited for this movie- I don't care if it's English, Japanese or pig latin, ok? It's a great director doing a book I loved as a child, so I say HELL YEAH no matter what the language.
Anyone else remember when The Borrowers was a live action English movie? I do, and I kind of want to see this version and see how it stacks up. The original was a pretty good movie.
Sho's japanese voice is acted by Ryunosuke Kamiki. He is the same person with acted Bo (big baby) in spirited away. He was little boy but now, become the man.
In the book the Boy was a few years younger than Arrietty. Miyazaki made them the same age, and now it's a bittersweet story of an impossible love. The scene where they have to say goodbye is very moving. If you can, get the Japanese DVD with the British voice track. Cheaper than the Disney dub, without the extra baggage of the Blu-ray combo pack. Plus Norton's book is set in England, so it sounds natural for once. Best dub since Porco Rosso.
A lonesome sick boy, old wives, and Arrietty's race...all the people in this movie are declining and vanishing ! This is a very serious fairy story ! I love this song so much that I covered this tune on the concertina and uploaded it onto TH-cam !
Oh My Gosh!!! I just watched "The Secret World if Arriety" awhile ago , the english version, and it was AWESOME! it was bridgit mendler and david henrie. now i am going to read the book :))
@WildBuck007 I think you're rememberingThe Littles, which was based on a series of childrens books by Petersen. Yeah, all the Littles had tails, but they weren't mice-people. DIC did an animated series and a movie for the American market. This movie is based on the series of books, the Borrowers, by Norton. The only previous work based on Norton's story was a live-action movie that came out in the 90's, I think. I can't wait to see what Miyazaki's team has done with this story!
Arrietty is showing here in Australia in both English dubbed and in Japanese with English subtitles versions. For children under 13, the dubbed version is the only choice. People under 13 do not have the ability to view a constant moving image and read subtitles properly. The major megaplexes only offer the dubbed version while the "arthouse" cinemas offer both versions. Personally, I prefer dub over sub anyday.
@bokuwaiaindesu the part about useless things - he says that the things in this room are forbidden to take because the people will notice right away (in that room specific) live alone- they just say that if something happens to them she has to know how to live alone
@Offertory The contract between them says that they will do every movie that Stuido Ghibli makes so they most likely will. I can't wait! :) I love Miyazaki movies!!!!!!!!!
@Shihan01011 there's hope - I think I've read somewhere that Ghibli is working on Porco Rosso 2 - maybe we'll get a second Arrietty sometime in the future.
@chloealyssamei i know that if you're living in the UK, the film is out tomorrow (29th July 2011) in cinemas. looks like a good movie so i just might watch it. Then again it is a studio ghibli film!!!!1
@NowhereWoman152 His son did it, but he actually helped more on this than Tales of the Earth Sea. A lot of people expect goro to be a very good director very soon.
Wow this look good! And i really don't mind the part that it won't come out in English. As long as i can watch it in Japanese with subs I'm good to go. I like to watch movies the way they were originally meant to be watched.
@MsWildFlower51 There is a British book series called "The Borrowers" that both films are based on. The Ghibli version is more faithful to the original, but has many differences.
AHHHH I loved this book!! Can't wait to see how Miyazaki this!!! :D *And yes, Disney will probably release this late just because they are jealous and don't have enough imagination to create something like this* :D
The Japanese love adapting classic books from English/French/Greek authors and turn them into manga and anime.I enjoy Japanese versions of The Little Prince, Belle & Sebastian, Ulysses 31, Mysterious Cities Of Gold, The Little Mermaid, and Ringing Bell. And there's also a place for both subbing and dubbing. As Arrietty is aimed at people under 10 or so, this age group cannot read subtitles properly and meand dubbing is the only option.
@wherokee178 yes, a movie called "The borrowers", they are both based in the same book. I have seen trailers of the 1997 movie, and even without seeing that movie I can bet that Arrietty is a lot better than the live-action version.
@danger7x7 it's different, mostly because miyazaki didn't direct this one like most of the others. however he DID write some of the scripts. P.S. if you watched the english dub version, I can understand. but I don't share that opinion with the japanese version.
@Konqithedragon soz, I think she must have seen it in a cineworld leaflet or something like that, and I think she managed to get onto youtube somehow! God she scares me by how techy-wise she is for her age sometimes, lol! thanks again!
もう9年もたったんだ……おばあちゃんと一緒に見たのが懐かしい……。
アリエッティジブリの作品のなかで1番好きだわ…
Ever since I found the Arrietty clips, I watch them over and over and over. The song is beautiful, and the visuals are highly detailed like "Spirited Away". This is going to be another masterpiece!
An absolutely BEAUTIFUL film...no one should miss this...brilliant!
Just got through watching it,another classic by Studio Ghibli...It amazes me that Studio Ghibli can out due themselves with each movie that comes out.....The music, the animation, the story is always excellent..
Thankyou thankyou thankyou Miyazaki-Sama!!!!!!! I have always loved The Borrowers, to see them animated by such a studio. Thankyou.
i love this book! i am so stoked they made an anime about it! i love how this studio takes some of my fave books, then brings them alive in anime! my first anime ever was in fact howls moving castle! right after i had read the book, i saw the movie, i was so happy,

Their awesomeness never dies!
i just watched the movie.the character looks very alive !good job studiogibli
beautiful movie....i love it. studio ghibli has always been my fav since i was little.
I got to see this over the summer when I was studying in Japan! It was really cute! I enjoyed it and I LOVE the soundtrack! :D
Ohhh my gosh this looks way too amazing!!!! Judging by the trailer, this new director, Hiromasa Yonebayashi, has a lot of potential!!!
I read the original book a while back, and when I watched the movie, I just bawled, I didn't know why. Honestly, this might be my favourite Ghibli film yet.
This movie is so great!
I'm watching this everyday and I still can't get enough..still want to watch it more!

I'm a great fan of Shida Mirai and Kamiki Ryunosuke, and after watching this, I fell in love with them more! ^-^ great job!
Awesome, thanks for the translation! :D
I'm even more excited to see this now!
Can't wait to watch this ^^ When I was a kid, I was obsessed with The Borrowers series :D

YAY! Finally a new Ghibli film!
watched it on theater yesterday, great movie in deed.
The heck? I just watched the 1997 film (for nostalgia's sake) not too long ago, and now I find out that Studio Ghibli is making an animated version? How absolutely wonderful =D
finally
i could only understand 90% of what they are saying...
thank you for the translation.
I own a live action version of The Borrowers, and love it, but this version looks amazing too. Sort of like Howl's Moving Castle, the book and the Ghilbli version are a little different and sort of stand alone from each other, but it's impossible to not adore both of them! I can't wait to see this!

When I first saw the trailer for this (it was the Disney version), I was über excited. At first, I recognized the animation style. Then the dialog and images seemed so familiar. HOW BEAUTIFUL MUSIC, IT IS LIKE A CROSS OF JAPANESE AND CELTIC I LOVE IT SO MUCH I CANT WAIT FOR THIS TO COME OUT IN AMERICA
The movie gave me a feeling of tranquility, but as the same time made my heart skip a beat. "Shine, yet not so bright that blind your eyes" this is a Vietnamese proverb that fits it so well. I couldn't get my eyes off Arrietty for even one second...
This looks excellent! I hope the movie will be released in America soon.
Can't wait any longer.

Hiromasa Yonebayashi is the future of Ghibli, especially considering that this did *extremely* well in the box office
I'm so excited!!! This movies coming out in english dub on Feb. 17th 2012, AKA MA BIRTHDAY!!! I hope the dub is good!
looks so COOL!!
This looks like it's gonna be a pretty good movie. C:
Omg can u believe they are finally starting on the English dub here in America
Kamiki Ryunosuke is also VA for Marukuru from Howl's Moving Castle
@Offertory yes i totally agree. they find the perfect voices for each character. i hope they dub this. that would be great :)
Wow this looks amaizing x3!!!!!
I loved the original and I can't wait to see this,
A classic story re brought to life by the animating master himself, Hayao Miyazaki.
Anyone else remember when The Borrowers was a live action English movie? I do, and I kind of want to see this version and see how it stacks up. The original was a pretty good movie.
Can't wait! =D
Sho's japanese voice is acted by Ryunosuke Kamiki. He is the same person with acted Bo (big baby) in spirited away. He was little boy but now, become the man.
look what i'v gone and done i have to watch it now!

@dlwilliam Directed by Hiromasa Yonebayash he was working as an animator in Ghibli since Princess Mononoke, Screenplan is by Miyazaki :)
@WildBuck007 I think you're rememberingThe Littles, which was based on a series of childrens books by Petersen. Yeah, all the Littles had tails, but they weren't mice-people. the part about useless things - he says that the things in this room are forbidden to take because the people will notice right away (in that room specific)
live alone- they just say that if something happens to them she has to know how to live alone
@GreenLanternsLight3 Miyazaki wrote the formal project proposal, gave it to Toshio Suzuki to produce and Hiromasa Yonebayashi to direct.
@Offertory The contract between them says that they will do every movie that Stuido Ghibli makes so they most likely will. I can't wait! :) I love Miyazaki movies!!!!!!!!!
This is already out? Dammit, why am I always the last to hear about these things? This looks amazing~
wow so nice..i gatta watch this show..
@Shihan01011
there's hope - I think I've read somewhere that Ghibli is working on Porco Rosso 2 - maybe we'll get a second Arrietty sometime in the future.
How does the anime industry keep doing this? I just watched Book of Keels and it was amazing, and now this looks amazing too!
@chloealyssamei i know that if you're living in the UK, the film is out tomorrow (29th July 2011) in cinemas. looks like a good movie so i just might watch it. Then again it is a studio ghibli film!!!!1

@spo0oon - this trailer is Japanese with English sub but there is an English dub version of the film out in England at the moment! ^.^

@CloudWatcherX Yes it is; they brought her in after getting a fan letter from her to do the music. :)
:D I'M SOO EXCITED!!!!
@Jessieanee what do you mean? is Disney not going to distribute it as they have for all other recent Ghibli films?
@Jessieanee Actually it was announced recently that Arrietty will premiere in the US February 17, 2012
