Someone in my family who I’ve lost contact with for years. I went to see them. Went over their house for a few days.... they had plastic forks and spoons that they cleaned over and over again. Not enough plates or cups. No hand soap, the chain in the toilet broke so they couldn’t flush the toilet. No paper towels or anything. The fridge had mold in it. It was all around sad and their excuse was they didn’t have any money. ALSO there were three children living in the house with them who all lived in these conditions.
This person had a job and splurged on weird random things.
I was dumbfounded. Like Tay. Literally thinking the same thing, why can’t you just go to dollar tree down the street and get real spoons, hand soap !, simple essentials that you’re forcing your self to live without.
When I tried to bring up some of the issues they got really defensive.
There were no beds in the apartment either. I was only staying for a few days and literally slept on the floor.
I ordered everyone pizza one night.
I also used a string to fix the toilet.
That’s all I did and I left after my stay.
It’s a weird thing how some people seem not to realize how incredibly easy it is to fix such simple things
I would of done more but I didn’t want to offend the person.
To be clear I lost contact with them for years and I finally saw them for the first time during this visit after about 6-7 years. So we barely even knew each other. I didn’t feel comfortable telling them they had to change everything about the way they lived.
I offered to clean while I stayed there and they got extremely defensive.
