Since the Burzum albums can be clearly separated in two groups (' Dark Ambient' and 'Black Metal', the second group featuring some Ambient stuff as well), I've decided to give two ranking lists. I'm going to start with the Black Metal list, but first it has to be stated that NO Burzum album is an utter failure.
Black Metal albums (the EP Aske omitted):
    #7 Umskiptar
    #6 Valen
    #5 Burzum
    #4 Belus
#3 Det som en gang var
    #2 Filosofem
..and my all time #1 is...HVIS LYSET TAR OSS!
The second list comprises all Burzum Ambient albums:
    #5 Thulêan Mysteries
    #4 The Ways of Yore
    #3 Sôl austan, Mâni vestan
    #2 Dauði Baldrs
... and my favourite Burzum Dark Ambient album is HLIDSKJALF on #1!

Burzum's discography is so utterly hard to rank...
My top 4 are the original 4 BM albums, likely Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, ST/Aske, Filosofem and Det Som Engang Var, but the order can change based on my mood. Then It's Belus, Hlidskjalf, Belus, Fallen, Umskiptar, then Ways of Yore, Daudi Baldr, Sol Austan and Thulean.
Ways of Yore is super underrated, I enjoy that album quite a lot. Good ambient vibe throughout, I wouldn't say it's the worst, certainly not easily.

I asked a friend about the difference between death and black metal. He explained, then said I should listen to Filosofem to hear a typ black metal album.
I didnt know Burzum and was looking forward hearing the album. Shock!!!
I did listen the whole album, but just because I thougt, there must be something coming, at least a short melody or a tiny riff, but nope. I listened at moderate level over headphone, at the end I had tinitus from the constant hiss in the sound, as if I had stood directly in front of the pa loudspeakers at a metal concert.
I listen to a lot of music, and of course to metal, but I believe, I am the only one worldwide, who listened through that whole album. I cannot believe anyone else ever going through this.
Nobody please be offended. And keep up with the lovely channel, BR, Joe

That is objectively wrong. I like burzum, but I absolutely do not support that asshole. I think the music being good isn’t a good enough excuse to completely dismiss someone being a terrible person. Like Kevin spacey as a good example. People enjoy his movies, but agree that he is a piece of shit in real life. That’s how I feel about burzum. Cool music, shitheads playing it

Have to agree and disagree about belis. It has some great riffs that i definitely think hold a candle to some pre prison material, but i have this issue where the song is great, then it changes to a part i dont like that ruins the song for me. The couple times i listen to it, i just keep getting that drop off that makes the album a really mind fuck.
I do think the best riffs on belis are better than the best riffs on fallen, however i think it is a lot more consistent and enjoyable to listen to.

    10. Daudi Baldrs (good album to meditate to. 1 of my first Burzum albums back when it came out which was long ago)

    6. Hvis Lyset Tar Oss (Det Som Engang Var song is amazing but the rest of the album is just average)
    5. From The Depths Of Darkness (great rerecordings of some early songs. Some slight rearrangements were nice)

If you’re not a metal fan listen to his ambient song, Tomhet.

My favorite is the debut simply because it has 9 songs. I love the songs on Hvis Lyset Tar Oss and Filosofem, but man, Filosofem has like, 3 black metal songs, and Hvis also has only 3, and that's the main reason I like the debut and the second album better...

Man you're an idiotic poser. The 3 black metal tracks on Hvis aren't songs they're compositions with movements. They follow classical structures not pop music structures of verse, chorus, verse. etc. Those 3 tracks are essentially mini-albums themselves. They constantly progress and do not return to some catchy chorus. The Burzum debut followed a more conventional structure. I don't think you realise just how influential Hvis was. It brought forth a much bigger scope to black metal music. Who cares if it had less tracks than the debut it was a much more ambitious and artistic project. It was where Varg perfected his sound. In the Burzum debut you could still hear Mayhem and Bathory but in Hvis you can only hear Burzum.

@@cookiesontoast9981 i like ambient too. One of my favorite Burzum tracks is Tomhet. But the one on Filosofem just goes on for waaaay too long. Maybe if it was 5 minutes long, i would like it
