  • Using the Olympus M.Zuiko 100-400mm f/5-6.3 as a telephoto macro lens to photograph mushrooms. While filming this video I used the Zeapon Micro 2 Slider. Using focus stacking to get a sharp image as the narrow depth of field at 800mm equivalent, f/6.3 at 1.3m is 2 millimeters!

    Such shallow depth of field is tricky to work with, focus stacking can work, just hope for zero wind! Stunning location. interesting film, thanks for sharing it.

    You use your skill, imagination and sheer creativity to produce such outstanding images. Clearly you use the camera and lenses simply as tools and extension of your creative mind and not, like so many other gear obsessed and talentless yobs, as an extension of their egos. Excellent work.

    I look forward to your take on focus stacking as the pic of the single mushroom with 14 images stacked (? a sp of inkcap) looks really good . keep safe

    Good video Espen. I use my PL 200mm f2.8 +/- my Panasonic TC14 with a Meike 320P mini speedlite as a companion to my Oly 60mm macro + STF-8 for macro/close up shots. I also fit a set of Meike extension tubes when necessary. The longer focal length of the 200mm comes in handy, especially for insects which are too far away or skittish. It also saves trying to fight my was through bum piercing thistles, brambles and stingers. I look forward to your in camera stacking video: it's something I've never tried on either my EM1X or EM1 mark III, but really must at some point.

      More to just show the magnification difference between with and without, but it can definitely help a bit for background blur 👍

    Due to the 150-400 being soooo expensive, I am now looking at the 100-400. the 300 is awesome, but sometimes hard to zoom with my feet :) BTW, I like your term "35mm equivalent"

    • @konstantinaksenov4850
      @konstantinaksenov4850 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      100-400 good lens, but 300/4 pro + mc14 and mc20 gives image quality and stabilization much more. 150-400 I tried before the official announcement once and it is amazing.

  • @catrionathomson8981
    @catrionathomson8981 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes you can do macro with a lens of this weight, size and prohibitive cf distance but why would you want to? With pockets deep enough to purchase this a person would sure be able to shell out £200 (amazon uk) for the 128g m.zuiko 30mm f3.5 offering 2.5:1 (35mm equivalent) that will permit focus stacking in-camera and would sit nicely on a tabletop tripod and in an inimitably more portable set up. Olympus lost the plot.

    • @EspenHelland
      @EspenHelland  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I don’t think they meant for this lens to strictly be used for macro. I just like to use what I have 🙂
