Its amazing that there is only 1 qualified presenter in the whole of Britain and Ireland capable of presenting a prewritten script! Most countries have hundreds!
@@stever2583 please tell me that you understand that her hostin these shows was not what i was referring to as her being an irreplaceable Treasure, she's great at this but her worth is far more involved than just that of a narrator...
Haha. I am so thrilled there is a program called Digging Up Britain. When I first made a home with my husband of 30 years, I became a fan of Time Team. It seemed to him it was all I watched, but he didn’t know the name of the show. From that point onward and to this day he refers to anything I watch that is remotely related to archeology as “Digging Up England”. It just tickles me that I can legitimately tell him I am watching Digging Up Britain.
Which one? One is a rescue due to deteriorating conditions and the other is in imminent risk of disappearing beneath a housing estate. A good deal of archaeological discovery occurs as a result of development when its a rush to get it done before the 'dozers move in.
Why could it not just be for hunting to fool the deer just like we do today. Horns can be seen but cut so as not to seem to intimidating, the buck comes closer to check you out. We use decoys, they actively decoyed game into range.
I'm wondering.... if the Vikings stole all this stuff; Why did they not like re-utilize it? Smelt it down? whatever they did then. raiding somebody and just throwinf it all in the garbage doesn't make sense to me
Its a typical hoard buried in the ground in order to keep it safe and for whatever reason they never returned to collect it its not "thrown in the garbage". If theres a crisis an immediate threat to life its the most straightforward way to keep valuable items safe from prying eyes is to bury it only you know where it is and if you don't return to collect it well that tells its own story. Silver had its own value to vikings whether looted and chopped up silver aka "hack silver" or melted down into ingots its the silver thats the intrinsic value not whether its a cross or not they don't care about the symbolism only the bullion value
I sometimes think archeologists are loosing their way, clutching at straws. Religious/shamanic skull caps & so on. Why couldn’t the deer skull cap with antlers be a simple good luck charm that was put over a door way, like the rest of the world has similar things.
Professor Alice Roberts is an Irreplaceable Treasure.

I remember when she and Matt were both on Time Team. They literally started out in the trenches.

Looks like some tiny Ogham script on that Star Carr pendant
Bit early for that
Maybe not ritual headless, but maybe hunting camouflage gear.
It's obviously a guitar pick.
I so enjoy your channel. Please do a video about the Halifax Explosion in Dec 6, 1917. The largest non nuclear explosion in human history.
There was no way I could scroll past you
What stone was the pendant made from?
Shale?
should focus on sites at risk to sea level rise...
I don’t think that sea level rise is at risk from any archaeological sites.
@@paulannable3734 the impact ~13000 years ago is causing the sea level rise... also sped up by human impact on global warming..
Why is such a rich deposit being closed down?

Loosing their way? They should tighten up, pronto
