Totally agree with the feel factor on the Kemper in comparison to the Stomp. I love my HX Stomp mostly for effects and ease of function, but pure amp tones are better with the Kemper.
Does Kemper have the sag and bias settings for tube compression feel from voltage drop. P.s. I don't have either nor have I ever played through a real tube amp and I know shit about the tube feel.
The entire Helix line has a slightly less responsive 'feel' compared to some other high end solutions. I find the same thing between it and my Tonex, and particularly my Friedman IR-X and Axe FX 3 Mk2. When you play JUST the Siomp/Helix for awhile you don't notice it, until you try something else. It is also why I prefer the Stomp over a Helix LT or Helix. Why pay more for that (assuming you don't need the added complexity of presets the higher priced Helix units provide). On the flip side, since the Line 6 Catalyst COmbo Amps use a Helix engine, albeit, with a limited number of amp models (that are all Line 6 created amps) and FX, it makes them one heck of a bang for the buck. The Amp models on the Catalyst, respond, feel and sound as good as anything on the Helix line.
Nice job mate! Good to know Kemper-ians can be accepting of other gear 😎👍 😜 HX Stomp XL has been may main Gig Rig for over year now. Definitely a better solution that external pedals and you get an extra snapshot. The XL still fits in my Fusion Gig Bag. I fit my entire rig in my Gig bag - there might even be a wee vid on that on ma channel 😜
Killer video Zach - I'm in agreeance with you 100% on the feel and the amp sounds. Though I'm coming from the Fractal side of things. if you are ever up for a joint venture, would love to do a vide on the difference between the three.
I've been on the fence about it! It's something I wanted for years but am pretty unimpressed by the design from Kemper. The lack of LCD is really a bummer for me
Funny to see I commented on this 3 months ago. I now have a kemper and just got the hx stomp to have something to just turn on quicker and start playing as well as having more effects. I am hoping it will be a good addition and not too much overlap (like a waste of money). I’m a bedroom producer and don’t gig. Just hoping it will have more effects options. Do you think it’s redundant to have both?
Hey Zach! I appreciate your opinions on the Stomp. I actually didn't realize until very recently, that you can have more than 3 effects in your chain. I'm fairly new to effects, having simply run through an amp for years. Now, I would absolutely get the Stomp as part of my main rig. Question, and I think you indirectly answered it in another comment, but in Sound Sample 3, with the SF Twin Vibrato, how do you get that subtle distorted breakup sound? Is that a tone control or gain setting, or other? Thanks man! Keep it up. Also, respect to the Serus J!
Hi there! That subtle edge of breakup sound is by having the gain on the amp dialed back just enough so that you can have it cleaned up while playing softly but then when you dig in you hear that crunch.
Great video! I've been using Kemper for the past 9 years and I still love it. Nowadays I usually play with real amps live, but I'm using a HX Stomp as a backup on my board. It runs effects through my amp, but if the amp dies I can quickly switch to just the HX Stomp and use the modeling side of it. I still prefer my Kemper, but the HX does the job in a small package.
So as an HX Stomp owner, I'm interested to know how the Kemper (which is a 'static' snapshot/profiler, with IR's) can feel/respond more realistically than a modeller that aims to simulate the dynamic response of an amp plus speaker, with all the compression and sag and clipping that should in theory be built into those models? I've not used a Kemper but I can't quite understand how it profiles the dynamic response of an amp + cab compared to a good model? And is the TONEX not a kind of mini-Kemper albeit without the nice effects? I'd be genuinely interested to hear people's thoughts?
I think that's the key difference. The Helix is a computer (processor) emulating the way it thinks an amp should sound/feel/respond with a certain microphone, cabinet, placement, speaker, etc. Vs. the Kemper is a "recording" of a real amp. The TONEX is definitely a really solid profiler but lacks the effects that the Kemper has!
What was the sound sample #2 riff?? It’s driving me crazy. Also I love my stomp because I love pedals, it takes them well, and being able to just carry my (large) pedalboard to church is a huge plus.
man, the hx stomp - it just has everything you need. The I/O options are outrageous, I just wish it had xlr ins and outs as well. The 3.5 + 3.7 updates knock it up to another level with the mic positioning on cabs, etc. So much for so little. With the new firmware/software updates, I feel it exceeds the tones found in most other modelers. I agree about the only 3 footswtiches, which brings in the xl which really shines in a live situation with the extra switches.
I can’t figure out what to do… I sort of want to replace my amp and pedalboard. I just record in my studio. Does this actually replace an amp if I want to play out of my cab? Also is this really better than just using amp sims like guitar rig or neural dsp ?
Honestly I wouldn't say its "better" than using something like a plugin from Neural DSP. It's just different. The plugins from Neural are actually fantastic but I think you'll notice more "feel" from the Kemper than you may playing straight through monitors and just listening back.

@@shreyashverma9753 it does. There's a fair amount of eq and tinkering to be done with either.
dude if Kemper came out with something like this it would be so sweet

Great work Bro!⚡️
Dude thank you! I LOVE your patches by the way. Use them more than any other on my Stomp and Helix.
@@ZachBrobstMusic Thank you bro! Your videos are incredible. If you allow me, I would like to use excerpts on my Instagram.
Absolutely man! Just give me a shoutout if you don't mind :) @@samuelferreiragtr
That Novo looks sweet.

Definitely need to try out the fractal side of things. I've heard great things - just haven't been able to experience it myself yet!
Here from the future: Kemper Profiler Player is the droid you’re looking for
Oh I saw it get released! Very bummed it doesn't have any display though
With the recent release of the Kemper Profiler Player, it will be interesting to hear your evaluation of it, should you decide to get one.

I don’t think it’s redundant at all. To me, they’re two very different experiences!

Not sure which song it is! I think it was a riff from a Andertons video!
Very math rocky
can you share your HX STOMP presets?
Soon! Working on something behind the scenes!

You got some great tones, im still getting to know my stomp after being very late to the party lol. Nice NOVO too
Thank you! I'm definitely late to the party as well. The Novo is killer. Thanks for watching!
