I had a 1958 Hawkstone Special , it had a factory tuned 197 cc Villiers engine the tuning was [at a extra cost ] Monoblock carb , longer manifold and flared inlet with no air flllter [ had to make your own with wire ball shape covered in nylon stocking oiled ] the piston had hairpin rings inlet and outlet ports where polished to a mirror finish . The saddle was shaped and covered with bullhide leather . The wheels where fiitted with Avon tyres which was fine in the dry but the rear was better in the wet with a upsized Dunlop 4inch I also changed the plug to a Platinium tipped . Fuel was National Benzole with Holts Graphite oil mix . I removed the top cover sleaves from the back Girlings suspension . Ready to go and i loved it . I still ride it in my sleep some nights . Within a year Race spec was changed from 200cc to 250 cc so that changed things a bit !!!! Hope you might find this a bit of intrest from David Lott whose's nearly eighty .
Thank you
Many memories on my greeves....

I have to say..that is such a clean and tidy looking bike.
knew a lad who used to use the villiers motor from invalid carriages in his race go carts. think it was the 9e model.
