That was great! Catching up on your channel. When Hasselblad announced the 40mm P (portable?) lens at $1,100 I ordered one, and then started shopping for a used X1D camera. I ended up with a used X1D II from B&H. It has become my favorite camera for just carrying around, because the beautiful colors and film camera like feel and simplicity to it that you describe here, plus it is super tiny and light! I'd love to see if you can borrow one of those from your rep. and give it a try.

A COMMENT ON THE FLASH: I’m not sure what the base ISO was on his 100C digital back but many of the backs are as low as 25. When shooting at f8 and higher chasing some decent DoF, with such a low base ISO that popup flash is probably not intended to be anything more than a built-in catch light.
Nick, if you didn't already know, Fuji & Hasselblad co-produced this camera, so the colours are the same, as the Fuji made some of the sensor parts, and by the way most of these parts are interchangeable between the Fuji version (X-xxx , can't remember the exact model designation) and this, esp. for the H1 & H2 , but be careful, some HCD lenses are incompatable with the film back (6x6, Vs the 6x4.5 of the digital sensor)- with the H1/2 they are only used with the HC lenses, also not the orange square lens line (1/8000th sec. leaf shutter), the majority of the H's can use the older 1/800th leaf shutter lenses, but not the faster ones (this H6D and the older H5D, I think, don't quote me, but from recall) but those newer ones can use the fast shutters.

Hi Nick. Was catching up on some of your older videos and ran across this one. A year or so ago I bought the Hasselblad H5D-50c (used), so naturally this vlog caught my attention. Mine has a tiny nick on the sensor, but I'm able to spot-remove that easily enough. I've since had to have it sent back to Sweden for a PCB replacement. Don't ask how much that cost. It hurt. All that being said, my Hasselblad is by far the finest digital camera I own. The lenses are way beyond excellent. I was envious that you were able to fondle the 100c :) I own many excellent medium format film cameras, and am gradually improving my technique and style with them. I'm (sadly) a better collector than I am a photographer. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I've watched pretty much all of your videos, and admire your work. You actually taught me the tripod padding trick, my big carbon fiber tripod was killing my shoulder :)
Great images. I’d heard there was snow in Southern California. What is going on! We have unprecedented flooding in the U.K. No snow as yet, but snow can transform an ordinary scene into something wonderful. I love the monochrome decor of the room you’re in with that framed print behind. A 40 grand camera. Nice. Don’t think I’ll be buying that model anytime soon, not unless I win the lottery and even then I’d probably buy a Jaguar XK instead.
HAHA, saw a liquor store other day near LA and I thought of you.. it's in Ventura county near Johnny Cash's house in Casitas Springs.. I drone by and went, "Whoa! It's a Nick Carver photo right there!" ..hahaha. I had no idea you were from So Cal

I subscribe to many channels and yours is one of the few that I get excited about when there is a new post. Keep up the great work. And where is that triptych video!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Beautiful images with remarkable detail even when shrunk down to TH-cam resolution. I don't know if it was the detail or the color rendition but they felt very film like to me.
Wow... that BLT cocktail is almost just like a cocktail my friends and I pioneered-we dubbed it ‘Rancher’. Only difference is ours had a few dashes of bitters. Orange bitters work well. 🤘🔥
Once again, another awesome video Nick! Obviously a camera I will never be able to afford or probably ever use, but live just watching and learning about new tools and what can be achieved. It feels dumb to ask, but I really love your style of photos and how a lot of what you shoot is in focus: Do you tend to shoot at a higher aperture to get everything in focus? If so, what’s normally your go to? Lastly, loving the dust cloud collection! Definitely would make an awesome print series... hint hint haha
Thanks for the kind words! Depends on what I'm shooting, but the landscape-type stuff tends to be at the higher apertures, assuming I'm not worried about the shutter slowing too much.
Nick, great video. Love the images. Glad you took Hasselblad up on their offer. I have a HD-50C and love it. I have the standard 80mm; rent others when I need to. What did you think of the HC 50mm II lens? I'm thinking of investing in that lens. Cheers.....MMM
$45k? After 20 years of paying on it, I could "almost" pay off my house with that. Another awesome BGWG episode! Great, honest, review Nick! Thank you. There is something about flying dust/dirt/rocks that is calming to the soul. Yucca Valley Liquor, been there. ;) (Still pissed at you for driving up the prices of spot meters though.)
Hey Nick, you made some interesting points about the equivalent megapixels for 4x5. I've tried to find out the answer to this question, just because I;m interested, but can't find the answer. How big are the silver halide crystals that make up say a piece of ISO50 4x5 film? I'm thinking that the each individual crystal is effectively equivalent to a single pixel so comparing the size gives us a useful comparison
Cheers! Loved it. Always informative and entertaining. Looks like Hassy got just what they were after. Win for you, win for them, win for us. Hell, everyone wins!
Nick, I started watching this earlier this afternoon but paused it so I could finish while having a BLT tonight. A BLT sounds awful, but it's surprisingly good. I think a BLT will replace a gin and tonic as my go-to on those nights I don't feel like making a manhattan.
Amazing Content, as always :) Did you ever try Sigma Cameras with Foveon Sensor? I'd be very interested in seeing you shooting style combined with that sensor.

The only thing I can afford in this clip; the lemonslice in that BLT.
Here I'm sitting with my morning tea (espresso machine is in service) and wish I'd enjoy my fav Glenfiddich to this, but damn I can't wait!
Hands down the best series ever created!
Admirable self-control. And thank you for the compliment!
I love this series and wish I had thought about doing this myself. Bourbon and Photography. I love it.
Thank you!
I just watched your triptych video with the feathers and the bison skull a few days ago. But now...where is that video? Can't find it anywhere. Did I dream this?
Any way I love your channel.
Landscape at 25:00 is gorgeous. So are the dust clouds at 21:39 and 21:53.
Thank you, my friend!
Wow... that BLT cocktail is almost just like a cocktail my friends and I pioneered-we dubbed it ‘Rancher’. Only difference is ours had a few dashes of bitters. Orange bitters work well. 🤘🔥
I wouldn't mind trying one them ranchers. That sounds good.
This helped reaffirm my opinion that film is awesome and irreplaceable
Sweet, sweet images. I know you don't need a $45000 camera to get them but I'm sure you had a blast. I know what I want when I hit the Powerball.
Tried a BLT last night...outstanding recommendation (used good, old Makers Mark, though).
Nice!
It's cool to see the camera used. You ever tried a whisky sour? I'm into them atm with jaemsons
Man those colors are fantastic!
love your style bro. thanks for sharing your experiences and knowledge
Thanks man!
I appreciate each of the videos that I've seen from you. In my opinion you're a photographic treasure on steroids ! Thanks !!
Nick, great video. Love the images. Glad you took Hasselblad up on their offer. I have a HD-50C and love it. I have the standard 80mm; rent others when I need to. What did you think of the HC 50mm II lens? I'm thinking of investing in that lens. Cheers.....MMM
Thanks for recommending Weihenstephaner beer in one of your old videos. I've become a fan and think about you every time! Lol
If I find that on tap somewhere, I just throw my wallet at them.
@@nickcarverphoto We have it in my home in Norway. Just come on over buddy, I'll buy the first round!
How big is the viewfinder? Like an SLR or tiny like the usual DSLR
It's spacious.
The best salesman
My 501 with 120mm still working today in 2021
Nick, half an hour video and your glass is still full!
$45k? After 20 years of paying on it, I could "almost" pay off my house with that.
Another awesome BGWG episode! Great, honest, review Nick! Thank you.
There is something about flying dust/dirt/rocks that is calming to the soul. Yucca Valley Liquor, been there. ;)
(Still pissed at you for driving up the prices of spot meters though.)
Your buddy has a badass AEV rig. Nice shots.
Paused at 2:03, went to mix a whiskey, now I am back to enjoy the rest of the video:-)
That's a very good question. I'm sure someone much smarter than me would know the answer.
It was not "oh my god" better haha been a while I'm not get to see your updates and it always a good time watching them again! Glad I'm back..
To be fair, most technology doesn't get an "oh my god" reaction from me. Haha
Nice experience, nice shots, especially with these cars.
Thanks!
Cheers!
Nice! That makes it a more immersive experience.
Amazing Content, as always :) Did you ever try Sigma Cameras with Foveon Sensor? I'd be very interested in seeing you shooting style combined with that sensor.
I haven't ever tried one of those, but I remember when Sigma came out with them. Where has the time gone?
@@nickcarverphoto haha... I know....
Made a similar mixed drink but with orange instead of lemon - I dubbed it the bourbonic plague. I drank a few too many and was pretty hungover 😂
That's a digital photography camera?! Holy smokes that things huge! Didn't know they made em that big. Have to look into the film side of the company now 🤙👌
(Edit) 4:50 Ah that's why I haven't heard of it lol 🤣😅
Another fine, fine video... Good job Nick!
Thank you!
