Interesting time to see about Russia, Andrew!!)) I think the opinions may have already changed since you posted this 5 months ago. As Maldivian citizenship holder - no longer require visa to Russia since 2019 (on arrival 90 days). And this year, on the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations with China, they've signed a visa waiver agreement which will allow Maldivians to travel freely (30 days only - but it's still quite good since it's hassle free ). *But it'll be possible to use it only after the restrictions are lifted in China. But Maldives do not have such visa programmes as far as I know. Lots of people in South Asia come to Maldives to work though, since the local currency is stronger compared to the rest of the neighbours. But it could do better if there weren't corruption, of course!!) The passport has moved up in ranking recently since it's been granted visa free access to more countries - like Turkey in 2022, Qatar, UAE, etc a bit before that. Easy access to Australia via e visa too. It was working on strengthening such relations when the pandemic brought everything to a halt, unfortunately.
I've got Russian, Australian, NZ and British citizenship. And for the fact that my own home countries of Australia and NZ have locked me out for nearly 18 months, I am planning to settle here (Russia) permanently if I can get a source of online income happening. Australia/NZ are behaving like USSR, Communist China and East Germany. Mandating vaccines, military controlling quarantine camps and protests, very slippery slope into complete tyranny imo. I feel safer voting for Putin.

I am currently going through the citizenship by descent process and should be a dual Dominican Republic and US citizen by around mid October 2021. This will give me visa-free access to Russia. I would also like to get citizenship in an EU country and my Dominican citizenship will allow me to apply for Spanish citizenship with two years of residency, instead of the usual 10. Anyone with a citizenship of Ibero-America (including those with Puerto Rican citizenship), Portugal, Andorra, the Philippines, Equatorial Guinea, or France, or if a person is a Sephardi Jew, he or she can apply for Spanish citizenship after two years of living in Spain. If you marry a Spaniard, the residency time required would be reduced to just one year.
