This game encouraged speedrunning by incorporating unlockables and even trophies/acheivements. That was a clever way to incentivize people to try speedrunning in a passive way.
I love when new people come to series and praising game without doing any research. Ah yes, this definitely didn't happen in...Any other game from RE series.
Pretty sure they were simply stating a fact, rather than saying this was the first game to do that. Of course other RE games did that, and I'm pretty sure they know that.
RE7 is one of my favorite games to ever be made. I had a deep love for RE4 growing up but not many of my friends felt the same way, that was until the release of RE7. The community it had built up for this series was awesome. Big shoutout to my brother Hummeldon for introducing me to the series and the amazing editing on the video!
As somebody who joined the RE speedrunning community when RE3R was released, this is such an awesome video to see exactly what was going on at the time of RE7’s release. Words can’t explain how hyped the game was and it’s cool to get a better idea of what things were like at the time as far as speedrunning goes. Great video dude!
Thank you so much! I'm glad it shined some light on how crazy the release was for us. You joined the RE SR Community at a pretty good time. Tons of resources and a lot of friendly members.
No joke. Resident Evil speedruns are my favorite to watch. Games I've played 30 plus times in my life and I'm still in awe at how precise one must be to achieve a perfect run. I could never. Mad respect for that community
i remember back before the re7 reveal, capcom was showing off a VR demo named "Kitchen" and it was a complete mystery with no footage allowed. just word of mouth that it was "the scariest VR experience yet." i had always hoped that it turned into a full game. when i saw the reveal flash "KITCHEN" then show some of the supposed footage only for it to be re7, i lost my mind haha. one of the best game reveals ever.
It was so hard to not watch any RE7 footage before I played it my first time. That being said, I totally loved the Carci Madhouse playthrough on the GDQ stage. What a great run that was. This video is so well made. It really shows all the love RE7 has from the community. Thanks for putting it all together. Love the content!
@@Tom3kkk I agree with this totally. I love watching speedruns, or just let's plays, for this very reason. It helps to appreciate a game that I may not have ever given attention to. Or it can show a new way to play a game that I love already.

Thank you for the cool content, this was really entertaining to watch. I discovered your channel yesterday and I don't really know anything about RE or speedrunning, but it's been a nice escape from real life.
I've always been kind of amazed at how popular RE7 was for running despite having basically a 10+ minute cutscene to slog through at the start of the game and how... kind of annoying it was to jigger everything so that you could use the savegame to bypass it and actually start playing the game, in that one particular extension. Once you got going, it was a fun game to run, but man... that intro was just miserable if you were chasing a PB or something.
While I have no desire to get into real speedrunning, it's always interesting to see where they trim time. It helps every little bit to try and get that perfect ranking to unlock the good stuff.

To this day, I've still never played a single _Resident Evil_ game (I prefer the movies), but I'm entertained and intrigued by watching people trying to beat the game in the wackiest or hardest ways possible.
RE7 was my first submitted PB to SR.C, to this day the speedrun community is one of my favorite! And the game is one i recommend for aspiring runners of any RE games
Village is my first RE game, and my favorite speed game, and I feel like that was thanks to VII's branch into first person horror and being the most accessible. So hell yeah REVII, and time to play it one day.
RE8 is in most ways a step up from RE7 as a speed game, with only the Beneviento house being the spot in the mustard (though it's nothing compared to the 10+ minute "cutscene" in every stock RE7 run.) I doubt speedrunning was at the forefront of Capcom's mind when they were designing RE8, but it works out to be a really fun game to run, just like its predecessor. VoS NG runs are particularly fun to watch, because unlike Madhouse, a VoS run can get scrapped almost instantly if the runner goofs (meanwhile Madhouse in RE7 really only has a few specific spots where failure is a meaningful risk.)
The GDQ Fatal Frame run was so much fun. Didn't have to worry so much about the game, so it was jokes and commentary most of the time. Thanks for supportin' :D
I love watching alien isolation speed runs I hope that picks up an alien day it’s so fascinating to see a game that takes so long to get through Get beat in half an hour

I loved re7. It got me back into story games and looking around for ammo and collecting things. Last of us was the last to do that but we hadn’t had a game like that in years. I was just playing cod, zombies, Fortnite and 2k. But re7 such a good game. Loved the story and graphics and how they switched to first person.
Great video! I coincidentally just started learning to speed run this game yesterday so this video had perfect timing for me. I decided to finally start and try speed running myself after watching you on Twitch. Again, awesome video!
I've never given it much thought up until now but yeah, RE7 was around the time I found Bawk's channel, wasn't even remotely into speedrunning at all prior, stuck around for the chill vibes, great community and the jokes but progressively got more and more into the runs themselves, since then I've come across a tonne of great runners both in and out of the RE community (shoutout MayC, Enigma, Waifu & yourself), almost all have a comeradery with one another, it's a wonderful thing to be a part of the speedrunning community, always rooting for that PB. Resident evil 7 is my favorite horror game of all time. I finished all the dlc after 2 years of leaving the game alone then coming back. I had such a great time with this game.
i love carci, there's alot of great re runners, bawkbasoup is a legend (and an awesome dude ouitright) but carci will always be my favourite, his runs are always so informative he tells you what he's doing and why throughout
i love speedrunning this game so much, im not even close to good, but i love doing it anyway. love re7, probably in my top 3 games all time, and speedrunning it is a combo is just the perfect speedrunning elements for me
This was really interesting and well put together! I watched the 2018 Carcinogen run live so it was cool to see that pop up. I have so much admiration and respect for the speedrunning community because of what they can accomplish together, and I just love speedruns in general, but Resident Evil runs will always have a special place in my heart.
One thing that I'm really grateful for since the release of RE7 is that a lot of my friends started playing the games around that point where I'd been playing them since I was a kid. It's now really nice that I have something new to talk about with them. And now a whole new generation of RE fans are on the scene. My babies are getting more recognition :')
Awesome video, especially for an outsider. Small thing; when you said speedrunning RE wasn't as popular before 7, I was like "alright thats an exaggeration. I was watching speedruns in highschool." Then you said GDQ was the main way people saw it. Insert George Bush "WE GOT EM" meme right at me. Absolutely nailed that lol
GDQ's been an amazing gateway for speedrunners and speedrunning over the years. I do sometimes dislike how "corporate" it feels the past year or two, but the benefits of that shift undeniably outweigh whatever minor things were discarded during the process (both in terms of money raised for the charities and the increased viewership the runners get.) I do think that RE7's popularity at GDQ played a pivotal role in making the "horror block" a recurring thing instead of a fluke. In that sense, RE7 didn't just bring attention to RE and Silent Hill games/runners (which already had a modest viewership by non-flagship game standards), but also to all kinds of horror games that might never have really seen runs submitted otherwise.
Resident Evil 7 was my first encounterment with the RE-franchise. Since then, I played all the remakes and absolutely love all of it. RE4R was in my opinion the best of all of them ❤
Great work. What made me hyped for RE8 is that I played RE7 two years ago which means I missed the fun during the first year of the game. It was really great that I bought End of Zoe DLC but couldn’t complete it on the Joe must die difficulty 🙃 that was next level difficulty. Hopefully I get back to it to finish it.
My favorite thing about every Resi run I watch is how enjoyable listening to the runners is. The tones of their voices, calm attitudes and friendly natured are all really great *because" the games they play are the opposite lmao. Runners I regularly rewatch gdq and VOD runs from include: Bawkbasoup - Incredibly entertaining Maxylobes - Super knowledgeable and fun to listen to Pessimism - Such an amazingly kind man Punchy - Genuinely one of the funniest out there And of course, Carcinogen, who mixes everything together imo and just is a nice watch.
It's true. A LOT of the Horror Speedrunners are very relaxed while doing runs. I guess it's cause we're a bit desensitized to the spooky aspect, but even when not playing games, we're all pretty chill.
@@Maxylobes Yeah, and I feel like that's a major part of why it's really fun and overall pleasant to watch people who speedrun horror games. The mix of needing to be focused and relaxed to go for runs and being pretty immune to the spooky scary ambience and things that happen on screen make for a calming contrast that just hits the right chord a lot of the time!
Watching e3 reaction makes me tear up i remember watching it that day and was so excited and honestly this is and 2make are the games that really introduced me to speedrunning
1st run is always normal and slow just for fun. 2nd was 3:20:24 Anything after this will be for the unlocks for time no longer matters to me after shaving 3:12:18 from the original playthrough. Edit: Figures this appears in my recommended an hour after my 2nd run.
I can't believe people can speed run this in about an hour and a half, that's insane. Just finished my 3rd play thru and managed just under 7 hours. Wasn't trying to speed run at all, but damn.
These dudes fucking beat the game 3 times within a day and it's taken me over a week just to get to the fucking wrecked ship? How fearless do you have to be to just breeze through a horror game like that?
Amazing video! Even I, a casual player made runs just for myself of it. This game definitely made me love watching speedrunning and trying it myself. I ran, re7, 8, 2re and 3re ( Bloodborne and sekiro too) just for myself all, nevertheless, I think about these games at least once a week. No need to wonder why

This was really interesting and well put together! I watched the 2018 Carcinogen run live so it was cool to see that pop up. I have so much admiration and respect for the speedrunning community because of what they can accomplish together, and I just love speedruns in general, but Resident Evil runs will always have a special place in my heart.
RE7 made me buy RE3, RE resistance and RE Village, now i fcking love that franchise. Thank you RE 7 !
you HAVE to play RE2Remake if you haven't checked it yet. Such an amazing game
RE4R was in my opinion the best of all of them ❤
Didn't know RE7 was so instrumental in jump starting the RE speedrunning community. Great history lesson here.
I was suprised that ticknaldo was here because i thought about him watching this video
With resident evil 4 remake, this video aged real well
4:18 name of the music please 😩
not only its super informative, look at the seamless transion 10:49.
Underrated editing skills
Don't really watch on Twitch but always look out for your YT videos.
I knew this game made the re series huge again in the speed running way but i never knew it had a such a huge effect on the game was ran in a whole
My favorite thing about every Resi run I watch is how enjoyable listening to the runners is. The tones of their voices, calm attitudes and friendly natured are all really great *because" the games they play are the opposite lmao.
Runners I regularly rewatch gdq and VOD runs from include:
Bawkbasoup - Incredibly entertaining
Maxylobes - Super knowledgeable and fun to listen to
Pessimism - Such an amazingly kind man
Punchy - Genuinely one of the funniest out there
And of course, Carcinogen, who mixes everything together imo and just is a nice watch.
2017-2018 one of the greatest years for gaming
Excellent video man. Well done!
It doesn’t feel like all these games came out at the same time
Jesus this guys are speedrunning the speedrun
Watching e3 reaction makes me tear up i remember watching it that day and was so excited and honestly this is and 2make are the games that really introduced me to speedrunning
1st run is always normal and slow just for fun.
2nd was 3:20:24
Anything after this will be for the unlocks for time no longer matters to me after shaving 3:12:18 from the original playthrough.
I have only completed this game myself once despite buying it Day 1.
I have seen it completed beginning to end at least 50 times.
videos like this is what makes the community happy:D
