It amazes me that the brackets are all plastic....I wasn’t comfortable not replacing that nub in back for stabilizing the back side, but even with it on it doesn’t reach the hole.

Dan the wire that I grounded comes with the unit it is meant to go to a wire on the parking brake that when the parking brake is engaged it sends a ground signal. but instead of doing that I just grounded it to a bolt so all the time it thinks it's in park. It's a lot easier this way.

Dan Kasprzycki unless you bought and hooked up an hdmi or something extra cable I can't remember what it is for sure, you will not be able to stream video from your iPhone, if you followed my video than no, you will not be able to play videos on the unit

I bought the kenwood, and I'm almost positive I have all the wires crimped together right; the stereo will power up, recognize the radio station, but no sound. Any ideal what the problem could be?
This is a great how to video , I have the same truck I'm changing to head on now. Had a time with the wiring though, did tons of research, finally figured it all out.
Ok the only question I have is, most newer cars/trucks have to be hooked up to install new equipment, it basically allows the vehicle to accept new device from the computer. Do you have to do that with this or you just unplugged and installed? My charger I had I could not just swap out I had to hook it up so I never did it. The stereo in it was great though, but I just got a 2007 f 150 and stereo sucks.
why did you cut off van halen... And in austin 101.5 is a alt. rock station they dont play very good music here and its the live capital music of the world and are radio stations have sucked sense 93 i think was the last real radio station to leave
On the back of the stock radio. There's the wide plug, that smaller one in the middle, then the antenna. I don't know what it is. I have mine taken apart and the new harness doesn't connect to it.
Just curious, is your 12v outlet powered after the truck is turned off? Both my cigarette lighter and 12v outlet stay on after I take the keys out which would drain the battery if I left a charger in there. Did you do something to fix that?
No I actually enjoy that function and just always take the charger out, I’m sure if you really wanted to you could install a kill switch so it only turns on when you want it to

I left it disconnected, I can’t remember for sure what it was for I think something only newer cars have like steering wheel radio controls or something

Did you ever figure out what the other plug was for at 2:07 that went into the old radio ? I guess it's not needed ? also what is holding that plastic piece for the air bag light at 10:35...mine fell and i have to fish it out in bowls of the dash.

Im going through my wiring and checking everything out because every time I come to a stop my radio, A/c, and cluster lights shut off. I doesn't do it on high rpms. I already checked the truck's battery, alternator, and everything else I can think of, which makes me think its a short somewhere but I just don't know where to start. I recently replaced the stock head unit back on and I haven't really driven the truck enough to notice if it shuts off or not but it hasn't yet. HELP!!!!!!

Jason Marquette it’s not ideal but it gets by if you want it to be real good I would run the wire up to near the sun visor or something I believe it would work better than where I have it
Your Video was SOO helpful. I ended up installing a Kenwood DMX-7705S. Your lessons learned on the locking tabs, not using the cage, and removing the back tabs were super helpful. I soldered up the harness the night before. Used a trim toolkit to get the mic up on the headliner, it was surprising how well it went. Thanks again for posting!

I was originally going to buy a back up camera that came with a little screen, but when I saw your video of you hooking it into the stereo, I thought why not get one. I like it to, I wish Ford would had made it standard. Ford kind of got lazy when it comes to features. My old 2000 Explorer Sport had everything my XLT has and it had more lol. I drive a 2015 Colorado for work, and the camera is so helpful. I get in my truck and if the object or vehicle is narrower than my truck, I can't see it and have to guess how close I am. Is the plug adaptor you bought to hook into the original plug generic or Ford specific?
well depending if your truck has a satellite radio tuner,you could tell if you have a black ball shape top on your cabin roof,then yeah you need an adapter

You can connect the park break cable to the stereos ground cable.
Does the car have a factory subwoofer in the rear cargo area? The small square connector is to wire that up if you wanted sub sound.

How you removed the rear tabs from the stereo installation kit. Mine doesn't fit at all with those tabs and the Metra manual seems confusing. Thanks

I just used the ground wire on the harness that came with the head unit, to ground the BRAKE wire. This video did help me tho. Thanks

Man it's the radio that has Bluetooth it's not the truck that's going to come with Bluetooth as long as the radio says it has Bluetooth then your good

one of those plugs is an aux plug. if your factory head unit supported it.

I don't know what to tell you man, maybe try checking all the fuses and relays.
