Am I the only one who thought this was a Military Arms Channel video by looking at the thumbnail? Great video btw, I enjoy your insights on guns and other content and I always like to see Russel's input and the great chemistry you both bring to your presentations. Fabulous sunset is a huge bonus to! Thanks!
I really like that red dot mount setup with holes for every type. I cannot stand footprint limitations already, and if a screw hole does get stripped or ruined, you can just switch to a different footprint optic at the very least rather than it ruining the gun. This should be a standardized practice, if companies wont standardize footprints just yet. I don't care for the ACRO at all so this is fine. Some of the best optics for comp are RMR footprint, Holosun 507 comp and the SRO. Unrelated, would love to see you review that kel tec stripper clip pistol!
Love the video, great review. You could’ve been reading the phone book and I still would’ve loved the video with that gorgeous desert sunset in the background.
Thanks for the warning about plastic magazines and heat. I tend to use heavier aftermarket springs so the friction issue is not as big an issue. But mag failure is for sure.
Dang!!! Russel sure knows his Glocks and the entire Glock universe. Pretty impressive knowledge base. I'll be interested to hear more about this Ruger as they become more widely used. Great video guys!!
RXM having a serialized fire control modules and ability to get different grip and chassis is the biggest selling point. Price and optic mounting system also makes it a decent option.
I think by the end of the year the RXM will be $300 and be the best of the Glock clones out there. Kind of like a PSA Freedom Rifle everyone should get two RXMs at that price and quality.
I genuinely hope that Magpul and 3rd party manufacturers keep up with the RXM. If you had asked me what a 6th Gen Glock would have looked like, I would have described the Ruger RXM, and now Ruger has beat Glock to the punch by several years, so I'd love to see it go further, especially as a more cost-effective platform.
This is really cool. As a southpaw, too, I'm used to using my finger to release the mag from my Gen 3. I've no plans or need for a reversible mag catch, as nice as it might be. I'd rather have a less expensive option, as this is.
The Gen3 G19 and G26 barrel and locking block are definitely not the same. Correct that the 17 and 34 are the same but the Sub compact and compact locking blocks are not the same
I'm fine with Gen 3, but I really wish they'd at least make a slight modification to have a mag release that's easier to reach. I have to break my grip to drop the gen 3 mags.
I have no doubt in my mind that within the year someone will be working on a grip that uses a reversible magazine catch. And one that is short for the G26 mags.
Prediction before watching any of it: Glock copy does Glock-like things like being reliable and shooting like a Glock, the multi-footprint optics mount worked fine for at least a fairly limited number of rounds, and it does indeed have a removable FCU and replaceable frame. Update: yep, pretty much. I personally haven't had either feeding or durability issues with Glock PMags, but I also haven't tried leaving them loaded in my car in Arizona, which I definitely believe could soften the polymer enough to cause problems.
Consider looking into what G100 is doing as well. I'm actually more interested in that, simply because their "Gen3" chassis system is open-source. They're also planning on making a PDW grip module available directly instead of leaving it to the community.
I hope Ruger and Magpul do really well with this. Basically every feature on this pistol is something Glock should've done a long time ago, not the least of which are better sights. Instead, Glock went back and forth on bullshit like finger grooves. The fact that Ruger and Magpul can get together and not only fix every major issue with Glocks but also do it at a much lower price AND offer an FCU should really tell you something about how Glock has been operating the last 2 decades. Glock-fans should be pissed that most of these features were apparently pretty easy to implement and Glock just didn't want to do it. They couldn't even lower the price to at least make up for 80-whatever dollars for haflway decent sights. Love that these two companies are putting Glock to shame.
Why would Glock try to innovate? All they’ve ever done is copy other people’s design features and slightly rework it to get patents and then spend a boatload of money on marketing.
Just curious. Could that slow feed drag feeling you experience be from not enough lube? Friction I can see being part of that feel. It seems to be trendy for some to run their weapon dry or too light or not bothering to clean and run filthy dirty dry for some unknown bullshit reason. Wouldn't that slow feed be more present with full mag and lessen as the rounds started to empty out?
Internally their SR9 was already pretty close to the Glock action. It's different of course, but the way the sear and the rest of the fire control is designed is about as close as I've seen both visually, conceptually, and actual function. So I guess this is a natural move for them.
We are truly spoiled for choice for not-a-glock(tm) glock mag receiving 9mm polymer framed striker fired handguns. This, the turglocken, PSA dagger and the micro dagger, and I'm sure many others.
The Downtown Truckstop? The Tripple T? TTT? Each t does denote something. And I'm off on a tangent that has nothing to do with the video. Sorry! Both of you, continue the great work!
I'm Left handed ,but learned to shoot right handed because I'm right eye dominant, which used to drive range offices nuts when I was part of the UK Territorial Army they'd see me working on kit Left Handed the shooting Right Handed - Well to be fair either handed🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
TBH I don't really understand the disdain for Magpul GL mags. Even people who have claimed 100% reliability from them say "I'll never carry these, they're for training/range use only." I've been using the GL9 mags for years, my mags have been through many competitions, several training courses, and have been run through several different handguns ranging from OEM Glocks to P80s to Shadow Systems, both full size and compact varieties, 100% reliability. Besides that, they're from a company that is widely considered to be the best manufacturer of polymer firearms parts and accessories, so I have no problem trusting them personally. I ALSO live in Arizona like these fine gentlemen, have had them hot in my car under spring load, and when I do my reloads I drop the mags in the famous desert "moon dust" and the most I've done at the range is bang them on my knees to clean them out, still 100% reliability. This same desert moon dust, by the way, led me to SELL other HANDGUNS (most recently a Springfield Echelon) because one drop on the ground rendered the magazine UNUSABLE until it was completely disassembled and cleaned. This moon dust also almost ruined a qualification for me. In the last training course I did I dropped my handgun on the ground on accident during the last break just before qualification, it was literally locked up to where the slide and trigger would barely budge from all the grit in it. After a few hard bangs on a table I was somehow able to get the slide off, used a t-shirt to wipe out all the dirt I could, tried my best to blow out the rest that got into the crevices, and slapped it back together dry just in time for the range master to call for us to line back up. I gave it a few gritty racks and a couple of dry-fires into the berm to function check it, and even though the trigger felt like I was dragging it through sandpaper it managed to shoot 100% reliably. A single drop in the dirt almost completely rendered my handgun inoperable and a hasty field strip barely got it back in action, and the MAGAZINES I was using that had been dropped in this same dirt dozens of times by now, and worse because they'd been kicked and stepped on, have been 100% flawless. So I have this experience, but then I go on the internet and someone is telling me they suck and I shouldn't trust them, lol. Either I've been incredibly lucky, or these other people have been incredibly UNlucky. Or maybe it was a case of early production vs later production. Or {insert other reasonable excuse here}.
Inrange, the only guntuber with nation states interested in the content (Turkey and Russian state tv shared the AK mud test video). Dont think anyone else can make this claim 😄
Out of interest, why? When I was taught pistol, it was the standard way to press check or release a slide that was locked back. I'm personally a bit old school in preferring it.
It is indeed okay to do that as long as you are keeping your fingers out from in front of the muzzle. This isn't a Zip-22 style system, so it's easy to not put your fingers in the danger zone. The only downside to racking a pistol this way is that the front end of the slide can get a bit hot with rapid firing, but I've never had the front serrations on my G19 get hot enough to actually pose a risk of burning my hand. Uncomfortably warm to the touch at best.

I'm glad Russel went deeper on the pmags than just "I don't like them".

Flux is already working on a pdw shell for the RMX, as they had told me at Shot Show.
That would be sick
That would actually be kind of ideal.
