- Attained both his graduate and undergraduate degrees at the University of Guelph, with a focus in the fields of physiology and anatomy as well as music and music performance. In the last couple years, Jordan discovered a way to fuse his passions for science and music together, and has taught lectures and masterclasses addressing the anatomy of breathing, the voice, and vocal production in Guelph, at Guelph-Humber, and at McMaster. Much of this passion for understanding the production of the voice at an anatomical level has come from Jordan's career as not only a Grammy-nominated singer, but as a vocal coach and teacher. Jordan believes that even a rudimentary understanding of the mechanisms behind how the voice is produced can pave the way for anyone to be able to sing.
if you can talk, you can sing. Sing in the shower, in the car, on your walk. No one needs to hear you. When I express my soul through a song that rises up, I feel energized and freed. I don't need anyone to sing along or clap. I might not be in tune, but I can sing....and so can you! It's like smiling, it makes you feel better. I hope you'll try it
actually you are in tune. Anyone who really knows music knows that intonation is just a choice
This is exactly what I started my channel - to document how you can learn to sing from the scratch.
Been now on the journey for more than 2 years and 1000% convinced that anyone can :)
MEV Experience hey i love your content you have defenetly gotten better
Cheers mate!
There's still hope!
Im trying to learn how to become a decent singer..only cause I want to sing lullabies to my future kids
just do it
😵 speechless
Aww..☺️, You're gonna be a great father🧚♀️
That's the most humble fuckng thing I've read Bruh
7:03 I think he meant the transverse abdominal which is the corset like muscle which is covered by the obliques from the side and the rectus abdominis from the front.
Difficulties arise when a person can't sing in tune no matter how beautiful a voice they have. But even that can be overcome with training.
7:10 No need to apologize the perfect example of a male version of a corset is Frank Zanes vacuum pose.
Has anyone else just completely lost your voice ever since youve hit puberty?
Steve Pants me :/ but Ive gotten better since i practice alot
I did. When I was younger I had a better sense of pitch. Hearing can worsen with age. Vocal training helps and better musicianship.
Simon Hager really?
😩
My voice never started cracking and the suddenly get deep and I'm almost 18 years old... It's almost like I never hit puberty XD
This lecture has been most helpful... It has instantly made a difference in my singing.... Thanks a ton!
I've always said the same thing about art.
Word for word translation for the hearing impaired (from start to finish):
Intro (Singing)... "Amazing Grace, how sweet is my voice/ That all of you are hearing right now?/ Starting the show off with a bang/My vocal ability capturing everyone's attention with its beauty/I start off awkwardly singing to prove that I'm the real deal/Instantly erasing all doubts in my ability, that way people can just start listening and learning from the very beginning/So to anyone thinking, who is this guy and why should I listen/Falsetto falsetto falsetto.... Did that answer your queeeeessstttiiiooonnnnn???....... You're Welcome!
(song ends/speech begins.)
"Hello everyone. First of all, yes that was my actual voice, and no I'm not from another planet. I'm not special, im just like any of you. I'm here to teach you that anybody can sing good. You don't believe me? Well guess what? Yeah huh, you can too. And just in case you still don't believe me, I'm not gonna teach you how anyone can sing good so that this speech wasn't a complete waste of everyone's time, and totally pointless... I'll do you 1 better & actually PROVE it to you! With. One. Last....... Serenade
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Word for word translation for the hearing impaired (from start to finish continued):
"I almost forgot..... Who has 2 thumbs & is a PROFESSIONAL SINGER? NOT THIS GUY! Har Har. You wanna know why? Because I'm also A SCIENTIST! WooW!!! I know right. Pretty relevant & pretty cool. But anyways, hopefully that helped you guys (And Gals, lol's) but just in case it didn't.
(Clears Throat)
A one, and a two, and a three, and a four..."
1:20 what that's a tie? I honestly thought he was wearing a suit and that that was the shirt he was wearing under the suit showing
Also 8:46 is this a new form of fetish?
The tie is awesome!
Beautiful voice
This was actually really informative, I learned some things.
Would the male version of a corset be a weightlifting belt perhaps. Great videos other wise.
Thank you❤
If you think you don't sing well, you know that you just need to put in a bit more work (ear training, vocal exercise and song practice), and you can't overwork your voice -- you'll need rest.
Thank you. I need that.
My vocal teacher always praises me when I yawn she says it’s the opening of the throat
And now? What is so new or better than the usual (=bad) vocal coaching?
I miss singing with Jordan
Great video, thanks for sharing
He sings really good 🤗
not really
We should just try teaching 5 month old babies about the Limb muscle anatomy and different neural pathways , so that they could learn to walk.
ford? principle. Jordan is a crooner, a baritone....how do we do the passagio, etc? I have learnt little....everyone can sing but to SING WELL is the hardest thing!
Actually any one can do art or sing or whatever (and i mean it)
But the ones how like get known who has the talent. how made new things within their talent
But anyone is allowed to do it and express his / her soul in the way of art anyway
Anyone can sing... As long as you own a karaoke!
Don't give me hope!!
Being singing since 6 lost my voice at due to acid reflux
That’s SO sad. Were you ever able to heal your throat and sing again??
I CAN SING, 🤗
I CAN SING, 🤔
I CAN SING 🙉
I just don't know if people will enjoy hearing me sing😂
Um Commenting so it can improve this videos ranking for more views
What all these people do not get is that singing with our 12-TET system with A4 tuned to 440Hz is not natural for the human voice.. The previous European standard at 435Hz is 10 times better.. Going through your different resonances from chest to middle to head is much more natural at 432Hz to 435Hz.. 440Hz is an elitest pitch,. to difficult for the majority to master.. Many passggio note sites rather uncomftable when A4 is tuned to 440Hz.. For my voice the notes from A3 to C4 has a rather weird placement 440Hz.. E4 is the most difficult note to balance for my deep baritone voice.. I see most deep baritone like me pull chest on that note. trying to sing it entirely in middle resonance and geting sore.. I can shift resonance on E4 but it never feels "right":.
Let untrained people sing at pitches around 432-435Hz and you will see what i mean...
There is no need to find a sore spot. You can always get through it if you are placing the muscles correctly and apply vowel modification, Give Voixtek a try and you will understand why. Your technical description of the HZ is correct as a standard but it doesn't mean your body can't adjust to acquire the flexibility you need to avoid those breaks in the middle. hope this helps!!
Wow. 18 mins that I won’t get back.
He's no whitney
Not true 100%. Just because you can sing on key, in tune, does not mean your TONALITY will sound pleasing to many. This is due to the anatomy and genetics you are born with. Some people have great cavities that produce effortless tone. Some have to practice and practice to develop and find their tone. Even then, after years of practice, a young kid with the perfect genetics, can come and blow away the person that has been practicing for years.
I agree
YOu're wrong son. Tone is not determined by genetics at all. Timbre is. The overwhelming majority of people can develop good tone by mastering 3 things: breath support, singing vowels and pitch.
Even with a voice that isn't generally pleasing you can still be a pop singer like Patti Donahue or an artist like Bob Dylan, so long as you know how to tell a story.
well no shit. a little Einstein can blow away a university professor, and a genius Artist will be better than an art school graduate as well. geniuses exist in all skills but they are a very small % of the population
spammer!!!
I can't. :-(
Joelifant yes you can your voice is composed of muscles. You just have to exercise those vocal muscles. Just practice and record yourself. Criticize yourself and fix your problems. Over time you will become good. Just keep at it and you could become great. A few years ago I was terrible, I am still not great but I am better by a lot. It takes time.
Yes, you definitely can/ Training is all about consistency.and Knowing where to place your sound
Not True Some will never be able to sing good its something your born with
Unfortunately, I have a deviated septum, so no, I can't sing!
Sounds like Neon Genesis Evangelion
well yeah, NGE had fly me to the moon in it lul
if you can talk you can sing, if you can walk you can run. There are runners and then there are RUUUNNNERRS. With the same reasoning there are singers and there are SINGEEERRRS. It is all about talent. OK you can build on it, but if you do not have it you will only reach a certain level.
That's a very pessimistic view of the world you have there. Sure, genetics may have some role in the tonality of you voice, but there difference between a well practiced singer and a naturally talented singer isn't as wide a gap as you might like to think.
Yeah sure that's why in top sports the competitors are mere seconds apart from each other. They must all be realllly naturally talented! There are millions of popular singers in the music industry not every single one of them was a natural singer that is ludicrous to assume. These are all just excuses and attempts to mask the hard work people have put in, it's easy to look at Michael Jackson and say he was just born with that voice, but he has dedicated thousands of hours into nothing but preforming and improving at it since he was very little. If you think you can just sing a few songs every now and again and without making a conscious effort to critique and improve due to some ego of "I sing fine!" then of course you will get nowhere.
I've improved since my first recordings which practically sounded like out of tune speaking. I still have a long way to go, and I don't practice that often but I know what I need to work on, namely pitch, pronunciation and timbre.

if we only conformed to what we are born with we would never become anything in life, it's all about practice and hard work.
hatanbu1 you have no clue what your talking about
did you hear ed sheeran when he first started trying to sing?
All this time I thought it was just talent lol
Everyone can learn to sing except Bob Dylan
I\'m not sure but ,if anyone else needs to find out about how to sing really good try Jaffacter Super Singer Coach( search on google ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my brother in law got amazing success with it.
Edward III Sacayle lmao, I'm not sure but......here's a plug

If you are interested in singing the greatest success that I have ever had was by using the Bens Singer Blog (just google it) without a doubt the most incredible plan that I have ever followed.

Teeheee
This was one of the worst TEDx talks I've ever seen
hm...hm....seems so but I don't wish to say so
Some people just cant sing on karaoke sites people sing 1000s of songs that are just rotton.so what he says is bull crap
Singing is PRIMARILY a listening skill. Those that sing poorly need to listen better.......
singing in karaoke is quite not easy, you have noise around, drinks, sometimes sound system is bad etc.. you are not trained, to know a song you need to repeat, things you dont do usually.
KAZZSINGER they dont practice
+KAZZSINGER You seem to have a comprehension problem. Whether people don't sing well on karaoke doesn't mean that people can't sing. He is not saying that everyone SINGS well. He's saying that everyone CAN sing well -- if trains for that. Those people you've mention have never trained in singing or considered various vocal techniques, they just went to some karaoke place to have fun. He might be wrong about this, but absolutely not because people sing karaoke badly. He would be wrong only if they still sang karaoke badly after they have been trained with the techniques he talks about.
The tie is awesome!
