Two things! Some universities do require physics to get into act sci so please just check your uni requirements before you drop it! Secondly Important Announcement for Business Science (BusSci) Students at UCT Attention: Current 3rd-year students on the Business Science degrees, and 1st and 2nd-year BusSci students. Subject: Changes in Policy for Conversion from BusSci to BCom and Subsequent Honours Registration Overview: This announcement primarily affects current 3rd-year BusSci students but is also relevant for 1st and 2nd-year students as these changes will impact you in the future. Previous Policy: Previously, students in their final year of BusSci could convert to a BCom and register for Honours, transferring all passed credits from their final year to the Honours record. New Policy for Current 3rd-year Students (and Future Cohorts): If you fail any course in your final year: You can still transfer to a BCom and graduate. This will result in automatic de-registration from all other 4th-year courses for the rest of the year if you change before the year's end. If you remain in BusSci after failing a course and complete the year, only up to 50% of the degree's credits can be transferred to your Honours record. This may require you to repeat modules or register for unrelated 4th-year modules. Risks and Recommendations: Failing a final-year module in BusSci can lead to complications, such as: Inability to complete the degree. Inefficient credit transfer. We strongly recommend changing to the BCom degree and then returning for the Honours degree upon graduation. Benefits include: Two degrees (BCom and Honours) instead of one (BusSci). Fewer courses, allowing more focus on exemption-bearing courses. Actuarial employers prioritize exemptions over the degree name. Avoiding issues with faculty rules that could prevent degree completion. Options: You may choose to remain in BusSci and repeat a failed module if you haven't previously extended your degree. You are not obliged to change, but be aware that the faculty cannot assist if you face issues related to the new rules in future years.
Thank you! I needed this. I’m in my second year of actuarial science and it’s been hard. I was a straight A student in high school but now I’m struggling. U gave me strength to keep pushing😭😭

this video is so well put together and extremely informative! unlike most career videos😭. you’ve literally started with definitions, subjects and marks required, how long it will take and other ways you can become an actuary.
Hii Musinse. Thank you for the video, very insightful and definitely not a waste of time. Quick question, is it possible to study Actuarial Science part time or online. Just to give context, I’m currently working a full time job that I can’t really quit because of the financial responsibilities I have, however, I am very eager to switch careers into the actuarial field
Hmmm… if you have the space to study and work then definitely you can write your board exams and work. A lot of students do that after finishing university. In fact, it’s inevitable as you cannot leave university having written all the exams. So as long as you have time to study, you can!
Hi, just looking for some advice as a freshman studying at purdue and still has no idea what major to choose (ray it would be great if you could help me out. I'm a person who doesn't have that much of a passion for anything (r) as bad as it sounds, I love fashion and content creating and always wanted to pursue it, but I never rlly thought of it as a realistic job option. one thing I know about myself is that I somewhat enjoy math and want to make enough money without having to spend all of my time in my job. So my question is, do you think you could be an actuary even if you don't absolutely love math? and also, are some actuaries more focused on communicating and consulting instead of just pure math? And lastly what is ur opinion on work, personal life balance in this field? Thank you
Hey! Firstly this is so funny that you like fashion and content creating because literally SAME! I’m hoping to do more stuff like that in my free time this holiday. ☺️ Anyway onto your question. You can definitely still pursue it even if you don’t LOVE maths but just note that at times (if not all the time) it will probably not be the most enjoyable thing to do. 😭 From my friends who are working as actuarial analysts, the work life balance seems to be decent with a few seasons where you are extremely busy a year. But if you are intending on fully qualifying as one, you’ll be studying for a pretty long time even after you graduate. But again, you don’t have to write board exams if you don’t want to. Lastly, there are tooooonnnes of actuaries who are more client facing and work in consulting spaces. You really don’t have to be behind a desk. The nice thing about actuarial science is that the skills you learn are transferable and sought after everywhere so if you finish and realise that you hate it, pivoting won’t be too hard. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching ❤️🥹
Hey, I assume that NWC offers 5 exemptions. Pardon me if I am wrong. So how would one make it a point that she or he writes more exemptions if the university offers 5 exemptions?
Hello! I am not sure if NWC only has five. I’m sure there are a bit more 🤔 But you can register on ASSA as a student. (There is a membership fee to pay) and then you can write the exams like that. You do have to pay for them that way.
Forgive me if I already responded to this as TH-cam is being funny at the moment. But the best way is to register as a student member on ASSA and write their exams. Just not that you have to pay for them ☺️

Hmmm. I’m not too sure about that transition in terms of being eligible for actuarial jobs… I think the best would be to firstly chat to an advisor at your university and see if there are any introductory courses you can take… other than that. Passing a few board exams will put you better in the running to be hired as an analyst. Be warned though, the exams and the notes are quite expensive
You can think of data science as using a mix of math, statistics, and computer programs to dig through and make sense of massive piles of data. Data scientists use tools like Python (a programming language) and machine learning (a type of AI that learns from data) to predict trends and help companies make smarter decisions. Act sci is all about predicting risks and planning for the future, mainly in finance and insurance. Actuaries use maths to forecast what might happen tomorrow so that companies can prepare today. They often work out how much money insurance should cost or how much a company should save to cover future expenses. So both use a lot of math, data science leans heavily on modern tech and computer science, constantly evolving with new tools. Actuarial science is more about using maths to manage money and risks. I hope that helps a bit! They are quite closely linked.

By the way what's the difference between the Data science world and the Actuarial science world.
