This guy is a fucking legend. This video part along with Van Homan's part in Criminal Mischief would be the two parts I would point anyone towards if I wanted to show what the sport of bmx truly was when I was riding. Hard to say it was anything other than a golden age for BMX. Mike's a legend forever, the way he floated and flew around will be with me forever. it was a true honor as a BMXer to be present to see guys like him tear shit up for as long as they could.
This is easily one of the best BMX video parts of all time. Mike Aitken is truly one of the greatest riders of all time. It pains me to think of all the great things he could have done had he not gotten injured so badly at his peak while filming for Anthem II. I have little doubt that he would have contributed massively to the progression of BMX well into his 30s. Luckily he was able to make an indelible impact on BMX before his untimely forced retirement.
@@stuartbn3152 A helmet will not save you. Way back I worked in med publishing, and had access to some pretty high level research from sport clinics that are household names. There was a group of doctors that were hired by the NFL to discuss CTE protocol, re: designing a new helmet. Brain damage doesn't happen from your head hitting the ground, it's the inertial impact of your brain slapping on the inside of your skull. Unless you have a helmet that has crumple zones like the new NFL helmets, wearing a helmet does nothing for you. Also most CTE is not from massive falls, but from repeated stress on your brain. Linemen get CTE because they spend all of their time running into each other during practice and games. Your brain can take a microblow just from landing a drop gap. From the description of what I heard of Mike's wreck (and anybody is free to correct me, it's been a while), he 270'd a double that he could normally 3 in his sleep, caught the landing and went headfirst. No helmet in the world is saving that.
Came back and watched this vid for the first time in few years, still blows my mind how amazing his style is and this has to be my favorite bmx part ever.
He is fantastic and gave us everything he gave himself completely to riding. To the point that he almost lost his life. Which left us a teaching forever in the bmx culture, to give everything but taking care of ourselves and ours. Thank Wolf. Gabe OV

@@holdynkeen6992 I've seen lots of guys land plenty of sick tricks with good style. And at least they are trying to do things they've never done. Hes doing the same basic tricks over and over. You can go to almost any skatepark and see better riding than this on any day.
