Nice set of dividers. Was that in the set of tool you bought from a friend not too long ago? How about a video showing all the uses of dividers? Some people may not understand the value of owning a pair.
Well hello Mr. Stanton. hahahaha. Chad I had a friend that sold all of his old tool set. He wanted to get new. Gouges, set of Stanley planes, chisels of all shapes and forms and a few mystery tools. Great idea on the video. Unless you spend a great deal of money on a good set these days, the old ones are out there and of great quality. I got some Starrett in the group of tools as well. Thanks for stopping by and posting Chad you are always welcome.
Nice looking set of dividers, I found my 1st pair about a year ago at a local flea market along with 3 sets of old Yankee spring-type calipers. The dividers are a 7" set made in the early 1900's by P. Lowentraut, an old toolmaker out of Athol, MA. But the only thing I could read at the time I bought them was the owner's name stamped into it "Wally". The calipers included two outside sets and one inside set. Both of the outside calipers are made by Starrett, and the inside calipers are crafted by Sawyer. They are all very old, but very well made, and for $2 for all 4, I was blown away when I got them home where I could actually read all of the lettering with a Jeweler's loupe. You can see them along with some other stuff here on TH-cam under "Old Tools New Beginnings", but out of respect for your channel I'm not into posting links and even debated mentioning it. Thanks for the show and I plan on poking around more tomorrow, Aloha....Chuck
Knolltop Farms Please post away! I believe in sharing as much as possible. If we have the same tastes and other do to I am sure they want to see your fine finds and old tools. Thank you for the great comment and I wish all the best to your future tool hunts!
Hey Dave, Nice find! I got an old set of dividers, a little larger then those that I need to introduce to a wire brush and clean them up.I had been looking for an old vintage dividers, compass, I guess you call them, but like Circles Woodworking said, Most new ones are made cheap and cost alot. I looked on line and found me a decent looking pair from over across the Pond, probably made in Harry's neighborhood ! LOL!, But they do have the look of quality and wasn't that much. Will see when we get them. Will maybe I might go out today and clean my old ones up, just my luck it will probably have my wife's Uncles name on them ( He lives next to me) and I'll have to give them back! Have a great day Take care.
Luther it is harder and harder to find quality made products now. I find mine in antiques shops all the time. eBay is becoming the go to place to find that piece that you are specifically looking for. I have most common tools now and now am looking for the specialty tools. I have a lot of luck in tool"lots" If you look in the pile of what looks like a shop drawer that was dumped out. Often there is a gem in there.Cheers my friend.
Hey Dave, I also keep my eye on eBay,( my wife won't let me keep both on there! ) but people are catching on calling items, Rare, Vintage, Hard to find, Antique, etc. runs the price right up on those items! I will keep watching those so called "junk boxes"! Take care.

I've been looking for a old divider. All the ones that I have found so far look as though they were from the dollar store circa 1989.
Keep digging the old ones are out there. I would like to get to the point of being able to forge some.
Thank you!
Old Sneelock sent me - interesting channel!
