    Sir in biphenyl you gave example of chlorine and Hydrogen at ortho position. And molecule become achiral . But in that question plane of symmetry was not present because both group on single ring were not same so how molecule became achiral. Please reply need your help.

      Okay that's because of the reason that both the groups attached to phenyl ring is not bulky enough to restrict the rotation of the compound.

      Khan munima, no there is no centre of Symmetry there. The carbon atom at the junction has tetrahedral arrangement and there is no Ci in tetrahedral arrangement.

      you can see that there is a plane of symmetry in the molecule given in option A which will make it achiral, so we cannot assign R/S nomenclature to them.
