Everyone talks about ceaseless like killing him “drains” the lava. It doesn’t drain! It cools and hardens. You can even see it in the animation. It doesn’t lower, it just darkens and hardens into walkable ground.
To anyone confused on why the gargoyles are necessary with the Sen's Gate Skip, you can't wrong warp down to Gwyn if you haven't rung the bells or beaten the four kings. One of the two serpents will bring you down there, and if you do Sif+Four Kings, you end up killing 1 more boss than Gargoyles+Quelaag skip.
@@MasonR3 In order to wrong warp you first need to reach the kiln itself which is only accessible with the help of one of the primordial serpents: Kaathe appears after killing 4Kings (who themselves are reachable only after killing Sif), Frampt appears after ringing both bells (thus requiring Gargoyles to be killed)
There is a way to skip asylum demon similar to the iron golem grab glitch. When you jump attack the asylum demon and trigger the plunging attack animation on it, there is a chance that your character flies out if bounds to the top of the asylum. you can roll off the roof and get behind the door to the crow.
I have seen that clip, indeed. What needs to happen is a very particular frame perfect plunge cancel which generates vertical velocity. Incredibly tedious.
Asylum skip is real. Also, I believe you can skip the bells by walking in a specific way where Frampt stone doors are iirc. Kiln skip too. Technically Gwyn is the only boss.

Amazing editing, professional level and you can even feel the love behind it. Btw, no need to kill Ceaseless Discharge in casual playing, you can jump through the lava and reach secret passage to Bed Of Chaos without any sort of glitch. I did this by accident in my first run because Ceaseless was unbeatable for me back then.

Since people are probably wondering the same thing: You cannot skip ringing the bells (thus the requirement of killing gargoyles), since frampt doesn't appear if you don't. Getting to kaathe requires killing at least the four kings and Sif.
When it comes to dark souls I usually just watch videos on the lore but it was really interesting hearing about how the game works on a technical level.
Before watching, I'm going to guess there's thirteen bosses that are required provided you aren't using glitches to skip bosses. Also this requires either being a thief or having the master key. Here's my list of what I feel are mandatory boss fights: 1. Asylum demon 2. Bell gargoyle 3. Quelaag 4. Iron golem 5. Ornstein and Smough 6. Seath 7. Pinwheel 8. Nito 9. Sif 10. Four Kings 11. Ceaseless Discharge 12. Bed of Chaos 13. Gwyn I'm pretty sure you can avoid the rest of the bosses. Post watch edit: turns out i was right. At least regarding casual playthroughs. And it's pretty wild how many skips and methods of skipping exist. Speedrunners are a fascinating breed and the amount of creativity on display is insane. This video does a great job explaining all of it so even casual players like myself can comprehend what's going on and why. I thank you for that.
I feel like a lot of casual playthroughs also fought moonlight butterfly its kinda easy to reach, once you get into darkroot garden you just go in a straight line until the tower and youre there, at least i instantly found my way to it on my first playthrough
I remember she gave me trouble years ago due to my build and skill, and I was wondering for a while, "Wait, do I even have to kill her? Ah fuck it." Kept going and got her.

my prediction is 3 or 4, i think you HAVE to kill the iron golem to get to anor londo, o&s to get the lordvessel to wrong warp into kiln and then gwyn. i also think you can skip the asylum demon, and go from valley of drakes to darkroot, back to andre, skipping taurus demon, and i think you can glitch into sens fortress without killing gargoyles and quelag
While you can bypass the sens gate you still have to trigger the 2 bells for frampt to appear so you can place the lordvessel. The only other way to skip frampt is by reaching khatee but then its still 2 bosses

He clarified that at 12:53. Ringing the bells also opens the doors to Firelink Altar, which you need to rest at in order to perform the wrong warp. (I know this is quite late but I didn’t see any replies to this question and wanted to put this poor soul’s query to rest).
On the second encounter with asylum demon you can use a 2h r2 to fall off the ledge, then if you preform a plunging attack you will be teleported onto the roof of the asylum, where you can roll down without the big pilgrim key
I'm guessing two, Being S&O and Gwyn, I think Ymfah showed a glitch where you can skip asylum demon without kill it (Kinda) and sens skip can knock two bosses off, iron golem has a grab that launches you to anor londo, then after getting the lord vessel you can wrongwarp past the door and fight gwyn

I know my opinion has no importance but I think you did an amazing job cinematography-wise and the general layout of the video has a great flow. Last year i spent like, 1 or 2 month(s) trying to skip Bell Gargoyles using Poopwalk to get out of bounds and trigger another Death Cam that is right below the fog gate. But hell i give up because after triggering the Death Cam, you need to parkour, walk carefully, rolling and some luck *all while in Death Cam Mode* to get to the Bell Gargoyle arena. I'm still not sure if BG is skipable so who knows. I'll probably do another attempt sometimes. Also sorry if i'm making nonsense.
Only thing i can think of for O&S is if you can somehow either kill Gwynevere before/during the fight or trigger Anor Londo to go dark early somehow. That would be pretty cool but I doubt it would work properly.
If you don't kill Gargoyles you can't ring the bell, wich means you don't get Frampt to spawn. That means Kathee would be your only option to access the firelink altar and perform the wrong warp To access Kathee you need to kill The 4 Kings, wich you can't fight without killing Sif first for the Covenant of Artorias ring That would net you 4 bosses killed in total instead of 3.
That's what I figured, honestly unless there's a glitch later on that let's you skip to the place where you put the lord vessel, it'll stay at 3 required busses

This is such a well written and well paced video! I have never played a Dark Souls game in my life, but I could follow along just fine. The way you explained things made it so a surface level understanding of the series is all you need to enjoy the video.
In the original Xbox 360 release of the game you could teleport through the doors in firelink shrine without doing any of the main 4 bosses. You had to jump into the out of nothing beside the lord vessel join an Xbox live party have the game boot you to the main menu then join back into the game and you'd be teleported into the kiln of the first flame
Yeah, that one was interesting. Now we have homeward wrong warp to do basically the same thing. I don't remember if it worked without getting the Lordvessel itself though, since that requires O&S, plus in that version Iron Golem can't be skipped
But think further. The bell gargoyles arena might have an area where you can make a deathcam. I would suggest the midair roll technique. add fall control, and then try to survive the fall to the ground. If done correctly, maybe it becomes possible.
Let's say you do that, you survive the fall, and you have deathcam. Now you're standing at the bottom of the world out of bounds with nowhere to go. Congratulations you've accomplished nothing.
Honestly having the bell gargoyles, O&S and gwyn be the only bosses left is really fitting in my opinion. They are probably the most emblematic bosses of the game, gargoyles representing the end of the early game when you start figuring things out, O&S being a massive difficulty spike and preparing you for the end game and gwyn of course being the final boss. Considering the run still sorta has to kill the first boss it really feels like a "dark souls streamlined" version of the game.
As soon as you kill asylum demon you can close out and reload the area to get the key without him actually being dead to skip him completely then you can do the sens fortress skip to get to O&S immediately then follow up with wrong warp glitch to go straight to Gwyn therefore making it only one boss which is ornstein and smough bring the bosses killed to one.
One addition; you can skip Gargoyles by going to the Kiln via Kaathe, though this requires killing 2 bosses so it's worse for the count but O&S and Gwyn are the only completely mandatory bosses. Great video as always Catalyst!

I still wonder if any of those reports describing an accidental Gwyn skip in the Kiln were actually legit game glitches or just the result of playing online with cheaters. if O&S fight starts by parrying the silver knight but still out of the fight then invading loutreck and doing it again and letting loutrec kill the boss will this activate the elevator to the lordvessel?
@@mostafafawze5863 O&S both need to be dead for those elevators to move. As much as I like your idea of killing the boss in the "Lautrec dimension" so that it doesn't count, I don't think that's ever gonna work as a lot of things would need to somehow miraculously fit together. To keep it simple: even if you could invade Lautrec, start the fight, enter it and kill the boss the game would also have to somehow flip the flag that activates the elevators and also not flip the flag that despawns the boss. I haven't verified this myself but those two flags could also very well be the same one, making this mathematically impossible.

@@mostafafawze5863 The elevators start moving after the victory achieved message pops up. Those elevators are always there during the fight: they just don't move. I'm pretty sure that the "Lautrec dimension" is just another instance of the same Anor Londo map with enemies and all. I know that if you get sufficiently far away from Lautrec and hit him with a bow he'll charge the Sentinels outside of the door and die trying to fight them (search for "Lautrec, Slathered in Cheese"). The door gets despawned if you get sufficiently far away from it so he and his goons will be able to go through it. Maybe something can indeed be done in this dimension but not with our current knowledge I'm afraid...
can we use the titnate scale demon grab attack to do the same thing we do with the iron golem to get to the lordvessel room? or it only works with the iron golem ik that other grabs work like the thing in demon ruins but idk if all attack through u away like iron golem
I surprisingly never knew about the sewers, gwyndolin, or gaping dragon for years into playing dark souls. Only found out after I played through darksouls 3 for the first time and decided to replay darksouls 1 again.
So to skip Ornstein and Smough one would have to: 1. defeat phase 1 2. warp ouside of the boss arena 3. Find a way to extend fall control 4. perform the death cam skip past the in phase 2 boss arena 5. ride the elevator
could've sworn you could do some sort of asylum skip via just doing the falling attack ontop of the demon in a certain way, I don't remember but it would literally teleport you ontop of the asylum
After playing Demon's Souls remake, I never played the original, I have to say, I like that one better as the first Dark Souls. The bosses are kinda of a joke but they look amazing and have some nice gimmicks and strats to them instead of baiting, hit, retreat, repeat.

13:30 I somehow managed to trigger this in NG+ while fighting the Black Knights in the Asylum. Freaked me out and I died of course, but when I respawned, it put me in beginning cell from the game start... with the same BK charging me as I got up from the nonexistent bonfire. Next time I booted up the game, that save was corrupted, on my first playthrough to lol.
My first few plays I went down to fight the gaping dragon and worked my way back up to fire link because I had the master key and took the other way into blighttown I didn't realize that fight was only necessary to fight if you didn't know how to get to blight town without the key.

At first time I too didn't understand why we need gargoyle, but it really makes sense, problem in Frampt. I think he wakes only after second bell. If we use sen's skip, and just take lordvessel, we can't go to the Altar without Serpent. We need Frampt or Kaathe. Kaathe need 2 bosses - Sif and Kings. Frampt need 2 bells, its 1 boss - gargoyle.

Thank you! I don't think so as summoning doesn't affect area loads particularly, but never say never. With all of the things I have seen in this game by now, maybe one day they might be the key to success.
Unless I'm mistaken, the only bosses that are 100% required for progress are O&S and Gwyn. You can use a glitch to revive the Asylum Demon, use the Master Key to skip the Taurus Demon, use Sens Skip to get past Quelaag/Bell Gargoyles, skip the Iron Golem with the grab into Anor Londo, and skip the Lord Soul bosses with a wrong warp at the Kiln bonfire.
I was always fascinated by boss skips in games as a kid. In most games I just wanted to explore without worrying about bosses, so I would often try to get as far as I could without clearing the next intended boss blocking progression. Hopefully Low Bosses goes even lower!

Doesn't falling into Fraampt's hole take you to the kiln? If so shouldn't it be possible to hit the loading zone for it without ringing the bells?

On the second encounter with asylum demon you can use a 2h r2 to fall off the ledge, then if you preform a plunging attack you will be teleported onto the roof of the asylum, where you can roll down without the big pilgrim key
I'm guessing two, Being S&O and Gwyn, I think Ymfah showed a glitch where you can skip asylum demon without kill it (Kinda) and sens skip can knock two bosses off, iron golem has a grab that launches you to anor londo, then after getting the lord vessel you can wrongwarp past the door and fight gwyn

Yes but you need covenant of Artorias so you need to kill Sif and that's 4 bosses

Last year i spent like, 1 or 2 month(s) trying to skip Bell Gargoyles using Poopwalk to get out of bounds and trigger another Death Cam that is right below the fog gate. But hell i give up because after triggering the Death Cam, you need to parkour, walk carefully, rolling and some luck *all while in Death Cam Mode* to get to the Bell Gargoyle arena. I'm still not sure if BG is skipable so who knows. I'll probably do another attempt sometimes.

There is no hole if you dont ring the bells though because frampt never appears
If you don't kill Gargoyles you can't ring the bell, wich means you don't get Frampt to spawn.
That means Kathee would be your only option to access the firelink altar and perform the wrong warp
To access Kathee you need to kill The 4 Kings, wich you can't fight without killing Sif first for the Covenant of Artorias ring
That would net you 4 bosses killed in total instead of 3.
That's what I figured, honestly unless there's a glitch later on that let's you skip to the place where you put the lord vessel, it'll stay at 3 required busses

I don’t think you actually have to fight Ceaseless Discharge if you wouldn’t do the Wrong Warp. You can Sequence Break him.
There are two ways of getting around him, yes! But covering it in the video would have been obsolete. I was trying to mainly point out the casual requirements first.

This is such a well written and well paced video! I have never played a Dark Souls game in my life, but I could follow along just fine. The way you explained things made it so a surface level understanding of the series is all you need to enjoy the video.
In the original Xbox 360 release of the game you could teleport through the doors in firelink shrine without doing any of the main 4 bosses. You had to jump into the out of nothing beside the lord vessel join an Xbox live party have the game boot you to the main menu then join back into the game and you'd be teleported into the kiln of the first flame
Yeah, that one was interesting. Now we have homeward wrong warp to do basically the same thing. I don't remember if it worked without getting the Lordvessel itself though, since that requires O&S, plus in that version Iron Golem can't be skipped
But think further. The bell gargoyles arena might have an area where you can make a deathcam. I would suggest the midair roll technique. add fall control, and then try to survive the fall to the ground. If done correctly, maybe it becomes possible.
Let's say you do that, you survive the fall, and you have deathcam. Now you're standing at the bottom of the world out of bounds with nowhere to go. Congratulations you've accomplished nothing.

I haven’t seen this video yet but I suspect the only ones you NEED are O&S and Gwyn, based on the glitches I’ve seen around the internet
Honestly having the bell gargoyles, O&S and gwyn be the only bosses left is really fitting in my opinion. They are probably the most emblematic bosses of the game, gargoyles representing the end of the early game when you start figuring things out, O&S being a massive difficulty spike and preparing you for the end game and gwyn of course being the final boss.
Considering the run still sorta has to kill the first boss it really feels like a "dark souls streamlined" version of the game.

As soon as you kill asylum demon you can close out and reload the area to get the key without him actually being dead to skip him completely then you can do the sens fortress skip to get to O&S immediately then follow up with wrong warp glitch to go straight to Gwyn therefore making it only one boss which is ornstein and smough bring the bosses killed to one.
Don’t u need to get the bonfire before the Doors to kiln in order to wrong warp there?
One addition; you can skip Gargoyles by going to the Kiln via Kaathe, though this requires killing 2 bosses so it's worse for the count but O&S and Gwyn are the only completely mandatory bosses.

if O&S fight starts by parrying the silver knight but still out of the fight then invading loutreck and doing it again and letting loutrec kill the boss will this activate the elevator to the lordvessel?
@@mostafafawze5863 O&S both need to be dead for those elevators to move. As much as I like your idea of killing the boss in the "Lautrec dimension" so that it doesn't count, I don't think that's ever gonna work as a lot of things would need to somehow miraculously fit together.
To keep it simple: even if you could invade Lautrec, start the fight, enter it and kill the boss the game would also have to somehow flip the flag that activates the elevators and also not flip the flag that despawns the boss. I haven't verified this myself but those two flags could also very well be the same one, making this mathematically impossible.
@@SolTheCleric does the elevators spawn once the boss is dead or when the victory achived massge pops up? the boss being there in lautrec dimension means that 1.they created a similer anorlondo just for him 2.its the same place but with difrent enemies and closed shortcuts what is outside the lautrec dimension? is it our same world if it is then we need to know if it is like the asylem demon and then think how to get lautrec to kill the boss and then think of a faster way to get to the fog gate with the fall control
@@mostafafawze5863 The elevators start moving after the victory achieved message pops up. Those elevators are always there during the fight: they just don't move.
I'm pretty sure that the "Lautrec dimension" is just another instance of the same Anor Londo map with enemies and all.
I know that if you get sufficiently far away from Lautrec and hit him with a bow he'll charge the Sentinels outside of the door and die trying to fight them (search for "Lautrec, Slathered in Cheese").
The door gets despawned if you get sufficiently far away from it so he and his goons will be able to go through it.
Maybe something can indeed be done in this dimension but not with our current knowledge I'm afraid...
can we use the titnate scale demon grab attack to do the same thing we do with the iron golem to get to the lordvessel room? or it only works with the iron golem ik that other grabs work like the thing in demon ruins but idk if all attack through u away like iron golem
I surprisingly never knew about the sewers, gwyndolin, or gaping dragon for years into playing dark souls. Only found out after I played through darksouls 3 for the first time and decided to replay darksouls 1 again.

So to skip Ornstein and Smough one would have to:
1. defeat phase 1
2. warp ouside of the boss arena
3. Find a way to extend fall control
4. perform the death cam skip past the in phase 2 boss arena
5. ride the elevator

You can, but it's cleric only iirc (not necessarily a problem to be a cleric outside of a speed run context, but probably slower)
After playing Demon's Souls remake, I never played the original, I have to say, I like that one better as the first Dark Souls. The bosses are kinda of a joke but they look amazing and have some nice gimmicks and strats to them instead of baiting, hit, retreat, repeat.

13:30 I somehow managed to trigger this in NG+ while fighting the Black Knights in the Asylum. Freaked me out and I died of course, but when I respawned, it put me in beginning cell from the game start... with the same BK charging me as I got up from the nonexistent bonfire. Next time I booted up the game, that save was corrupted, on my first playthrough to lol.
A great fight down there, the first time.
My first few plays I went down to fight the gaping dragon and worked my way back up to fire link because I had the master key and took the other way into blighttown I didn't realize that fight was only necessary to fight if you didn't know how to get to blight town without the key.
Even with glitches, you are still forced to fight O&S. This is how I know there is no god.

I’m a little late I know but wouldn’t the sen’s skip allow you to bypass fighting the gargoyle? Allowing you to get through the game with just two bosses? Or is there some other event, besides the simple opening of the gates triggered when the bells are rung?
At first time I too didn't understand why we need gargoyle, but it really makes sense, problem in Frampt. I think he wakes only after second bell.
If we use sen's skip, and just take lordvessel, we can't go to the Altar without Serpent. We need Frampt or Kaathe. Kaathe need 2 bosses - Sif and Kings. Frampt need 2 bells, its 1 boss - gargoyle.

Thank you! I don't think so as summoning doesn't affect area loads particularly, but never say never. With all of the things I have seen in this game by now, maybe one day they might be the key to success.
Unless I'm mistaken, the only bosses that are 100% required for progress are O&S and Gwyn.
You can use a glitch to revive the Asylum Demon, use the Master Key to skip the Taurus Demon, use Sens Skip to get past Quelaag/Bell Gargoyles, skip the Iron Golem with the grab into Anor Londo, and skip the Lord Soul bosses with a wrong warp at the Kiln bonfire.
I love how this video's length is almost the exact same length of the world record for least bosses at 1:04.

I was always fascinated by boss skips in games as a kid. In most games I just wanted to explore without worrying about bosses, so I would often try to get as far as I could without clearing the next intended boss blocking progression. Hopefully Low Bosses goes even lower!

Wait, hold on, you're telling me that you directly referenced to Sen's Skip in reference to skipping Quelaag with a similar technique, but forgot that Sen's Skip completely skips the Gargoyles and Quelaag and labeled Gargoyles as unskippable?
