I feel ya, Christian. I also found this on Netflix one late night when I was going through a found footage phase. It absolutely disturbed me more than I expected. I agree the acting in the first half is rough, but by the end the film grabs you and won't let go. Much like you, I would think about it again every once in a while. Finally, I decided to get it (along with The Poughkeepsie Tapes). I just felt they needed to be in the collection... but yeah... I feel ya.

The scene in the movie where Megan gets abducted is very similar to the footage of the 2004 abduction of Carlie Brucia here in Florida. I've heard that Carlie's case was one of the cases that this movie was loosely based on. The security cam footage of Carlie's abduction can be found online. I get the message they were trying to send, but most of the delivery is bad. They probably could have accomplished it better in a 30 minute short film.
I remember you talking about this on your channel before I've seen this movie on Tubi so I will have to check it out I like movies that have a realistic feel to them a couple serial killer ones I have seen last year that were disturbing were confessions of a serial killer based on Henry Lee Lucas and some of the scenes in that film are hard to watch plus Angst is one I saw and some of the scenes in that one were ugly and disturbing Poughkeepsie Tapes is another one I would add to the list
I enjoyed this movie. This is real terror everyone should at least watch this once and every parent should watch this to show to their kids and teach them what can happen when they talk to strangers online.
I saw a watchmojo today, 30 films people walked out of. I own about 25 or so. I don't own this one. It's rough as hell, and I also stumbled onto it via Netflix. Ah, the days Netflix was dating. Anyway, I dug this one (😂 couldn't resist the pun)...not really. Stays with you for years. though
I remember renting this on Netflix through the mail when it was still discs in envelopes. It was and still is one of the worst movies ever made. Not in a so bad it’s good way. It makes PSA videos look like quality films. Nothing is believable. The acting is atrocious throughout. The found footage is too good looking to be believed it’s found footage but not directed in a way to give any sort of illusion that its not kids just practicing lines for high school play. And the ending feels like some weird fetish film. Not creepy in the way you want it to be but more creepy in the way that you hope these actors were not alone with this director on set. The fact that this film keeps coming back up year after year just blows my mind in a bad way. Someone needs to put the TikTok kids on to Poughkeepsie Tapes or at least something with actual effort and quality. And this is not one of those where the low quality makes it believable…….FARRRRRR FROM IT.
The message is intense, especially when you know the real story that inspired the film. But the acting is simply horrible! The last 20 minutes is really hard to watch and it sticks with you for days.
I saw it first on Netflix as well… eventually buying it on bluray… The last 3rd is truly unsettling and almost made ME not want to go out!! I believe anyone with teens should watch this movie. Sure the acting is a bit eh but I’ve seen worse… the last 3rd makes a HUGE statement…
Watch it a couple months ago. Yeah the acting is atrocious... yeah it kinda go too far... but the message is clearly there. Ill show this to my son when he's gonna be old enough. Sometimes kids and young adult need to be terrified to understand the truth and danger of life these days.
I just watched it because you said it was messed up. I gotta admit that scene where she has to get in the barrel was awful. Other than that it was pretty boring. Basically you can be bored or be really sad watching this.
I felt like there were so many faults to this film before getting to the the last 20 min payoff. Terrible acting aside, do we need a 6 min scene with underage girls discussing graphic oral things with camp counselors? I also felt like the News segments were satire of actual news segments. Super silly. Now this is just my opinion but, the first 60 min of this movie take me out of the realism that is supposed to be the effect of found footage. But maybe thats just me.
Aftermath: Genesis is the weirdest movie I have ever seen... and I'm still waiting for a blu-ray upgrade.

Glad to see this movie getting some love. I've always liked it but see this bashed all over but never quite got it. It's wonderfully fucked up.

Dude this looks too messed up for me man not my style this is like Serbian film type stuff yeesh like I can handle terrifier 3 but this to much
The cringe teenagers was the hardest part to watch. The ending was pretty cool though. I love bleak and intense endings
