I am a 72 year old man who just recently started to play again. I really do enjoy your videos/lessons. You don’t talk to fast so I can understand what you say. Thank you.
Wish this was the top recommended. Had to watch and skip through several videos to find this gem. Agree with all the top comments great instruction style thank you for a deft, complete, concise and extremely well done video!
When I am teaching someone this shot in order to simplify the English, so it is not confusing.I tell them to hit the cue ball on the side where the pocket they are shooting at is located. So if You're cutting. the object ball to the right you woud hit the cue ball on the right, (running english) and vice versa. This was a good demonstration! Thank you Bryan! Great programming.
Really enjoy your straight forward instruction. Your instructional posts are first class - keep it up since they are elevating my pool skill. I only started playing at 71 but rapidly improving due to informative posts like yours.
Of all the videos I've seen on these types of shots, this is by far the best. Thank you for explaining them so well and making it all easier to understand!
Another great instructional video. Ive watched this several times, when I start kicking the ball off the rail more than making it, I rewatch for a refresher. Loved the 3 rail shot, but the low left hand shot is being adding to my practice list.
This drill added so much confidence in my shot making. Will add this to my daily drills and over time this will be automatic. Thank you for your time and knowledge 🙏🏾
Awesome Bryan. I've been having rail shot problems. After working these drills, my shots and confidence has increased greatly. It's a real pleasure following your videos. Keep them coming. Thanks. Stay well. QA
Thanks Bryan Another great video. There's so many things I used to take for granted in just shooting a shot & now shooting with technique and a plan my game has evolved tremendously. You are definitely my Go To when it comes to instructional videos. Thank you
Fantastic video. Watched this several times now, and it has improved my shots in those scenarios. As a beginner/advancing player, getting this skill set has allowed me to win matches against some more seasoned players.
I use to play a lot of pool and could run an eight ball rack, but I haven’t played in years. I am a lot older now and seem to have difficulty aiming. Anyway I can’t seem to shoot anywhere near like I used too. I enjoy your videos and think if I can apply some of your lessons I can recapture some of my shooting skills. I have forgotten the exact effects of english on the cue ball and the object ball. I am 81 years old and wear glasses. Thank you for your videos.
Bryan great video I loved it because I have a lot of problems with rail shots. My old eyes do play a factor but I keep trying and trying till my vision and muscle memory kick in.
You chuckled about age, but I just took a 4 year layoff at age 60 and came back at 64. Then, got back into league play. I'm fortunate, as my poolhall says "league players play for free" and I have an open schedule so I can go play for hours uninterrupted. My "stroke" didn't take very long to come back but I found myself struggling on shots that I hadn't before. Even simple shots I was dribbling. I dropped from a 6 to a 4 in 9 ball over the course of a couple of session (yes, I was getting beaten badly by higher ranked players and easily by lower ranked players). I mean, I was getting killed over missed shots. I thought it was stroke so I continued practicing for long hours. Discovered two weeks ago "I CAN'T SEE THE DANG BALL" like I used to. So,I started putting on "cheaters" for close shots and was waaaaaaay more accurate in potting AND position". Long shots, still a bit of a struggle, but I cut down distance because of much improved positional play. Scheduling a time to go have my lasik adjusted. To be honest though, I knew my vision was slightly less clear than 4 years ago, but had no idea how much it effected my shot. got to thinking, Jason Shaws nickname is eagle eye. Realized that when I came back mine should have been squinty eye lol. Great video. Thank you :)
Nice video, I already know how to shoot rail shots generally but the nuances and drills are helpful. The stop shot to get into cross corner position is a nice touch, I could have figured that out on my own I think, but sometimes having someone say something out loud is really helpful. Now I will see that position and have an immediate plan. Well done!
Really enjoyed that video. Excellent instruction. Would have loved to see you go for some of those very difficult shots that might not be practical in normal circumstances, but might be necessary to try to stay in a game when no better option is available. I wanted to see you shoot the shot with the seven on the long rail and the eight all the way down on the short rail opposite end and you go three rails to get to that eight, possibly four rails, five if you include coming off the rail at the seven. Anyway, you're motivating me to get back on the table...... Those are very interesting drills that I want to try, especially the rail shots with spin. I've always been able to slice the ball pretty good but not so good when applying spin. I'm going to start out with pretty short shots. You are a wealth of knowledge Brian
Well I didn’t have much trouble with rail shots on the short rails but I missed a ton of rail shots on the long rails. It’s like I can’t tell where to hit the ball, especially the dark balls.
Brian thanks just what I was looking for I blew 2 games in matches in a row couldn't believe I missed but I now no why cos I've never practised rail shots and in all the years I've played they never came up I never ever left myself on these shots thanks going to practise these from. Now on love all your vids and info keep up the good work lol
Awesome video n drills...I usually watch one of your vids before heading out to practice Bryan. So much to work on! Won my APA 8-ball match against a level 5 player the other night so it's working!!!😊
Another great video! A player from NY and another legend of the game both showed me how to make this shot with speed and more of a stun shot. Inside english as you said. But you can hit the OB much fuller by hitting the cueball firmer. With a high deflection cue, you can almost aim directly at center on the object ball. With a carbon fiber, aim halfway between center on the object ball and it's edge (so about 3/4 of the ball). Deflection and the stun will cause the cueball to veer into the proper position to pocket the ball AND make it easier to move 3 rails around table for a ball on the other end of the table.
Great instruction and very straight forward. Just started the rail drill and already see a difference. Not going to get over confidant just yet...gonna continue to practice. Just subscribed and will be looking for more videos. Especially bad at judging angles so I will be searching your videos for that very topic.
Ty!! Just helped me shoot some long rail shots beautifully and watching it hug the cushion all the way down is just something kinda beautiful lol ! Thankyou
I have always shot that side rail shot with the opposite english, and I will tell you why. With inside english on the cue ball you transfer opposite english onto the object ball meaning that it will roll along the side rail with less chance that it will grab the rail and move off the rail - it will simply roll along the rail. However, I am glad to know your preference so that I can feel confident to try it your way for better possitioning of the cue ball if necessary. Thank you.
My Man. I was i the Army and we played pool every day. But 30 yrs later I forgot all I ever knew and riding the rail was my specialty. NOW, I bounce balls all over the table. I $h!t you not. 5 minutes of your vid and I'm hitting 70% after only a 5 minutes practice run. My son-in-law is so so off the rail but talks crap about me when my shot's off the rail. TONIGHT....He's in for a rude awaking. THANK YOU.
Hey Bryan - Great subject. These shots can be a run-ender if you let them intimidate you. Been practicing some of these shots from previous videos; like force follow. I use a variation of the first drill often. I'm going to give these a try and see how I do. I think these "older eyes" just might be able to still do it. :-) Thanks again for what you do.
Just practiced taking all rail shots from all diamonds on the board. I was able to position fairly well missing only once or twice each time running them. Felt really good! Banks and rails are my specialty
Hi Bryan, I'm not so new to the game, but I know I need some coaching and advice. I saw your video and some tips and strategies, especially the rail shots you do give excellent instructions and details.
Your method is very different than mine. I always hit the cue on the same side as the rail. It makes it grip the rail much better for me. I can decide if I want top or bottom English for the cue movement but, I've just always found it better for me to hit the cue on the rail side.
You are throwing the cue ball to the inside with deflection from your aim point, so it's working for you. You have to get rid of spin to get past a side pocket, if the rail is straight.
I used to play ~50 years ago. Didn't play much for the last half century and then bought a table 3 months ago. Half century ago I was in the middle of the pack of the neighborhood gang. None of us were any great shakes but I could make rail shots ok. I tried using your inside spin thing and was choking so I went back to center of the cue and was better. I think I'll work on center for a while until I feel more comfortable and then go back to your inside spin. Not sure what my problem is. Probably I'm just less accurate when I try to put spin on.
@@FXBilliards hoping maybe one day you'll include the different Bridges to use when shooting over balls or shooting on the rail or close to the rail. One of my weak areas and I'm sure others have problems with that as well

Best pool videos with the easiest explanations
Thank you very much
Of all the videos I've seen on these types of shots, this is by far the best. Thank you for explaining them so well and making it all easier to understand!
Thank you very much for watching and for your comments.
These kind of videos are the best very thorough in explanation and easy to replicate when it comes time to practice.
I never tire of the video!
Bryan, outstanding lessons with excellent communication of thought process. Obviously your skill level both stroke and cue ball control is impressive.
Another great instructional video. Ive watched this several times, when I start kicking the ball off the rail more than making it, I
rewatch for a refresher. Loved the 3 rail shot, but the low left hand shot is being adding to my practice list.
The subtle things in this video have woke me up to problems I am having on rail shots. Perfect video at the perfect time for me!
This drill added so much confidence in my shot making. Will add this to my daily drills and over time this will be automatic. Thank you for your time and knowledge 🙏🏾

Glad it was helpful! I appreciate you taking the time to tune in.
Very nice explanation of the rail shot. Your on screen persona is very calming. Kudos to you!
Thank you and thanks for watching.
Rail shots were the fanciest shot I learned as a (pre-teen) kid. This vid just took me to college on rail shots. Back to studying. Thanks!
Thank you for the videos. I have more and now remembered what i have forgotten. Thank you
You're very welcome
Love your instructional videos. Please keep them coming.
I will practice the layouts demonstrated. Thanks!

Like these drills especially the last one as I do seem to have difficulty getting the ball down table on many of my shots
Bryan great video I loved it because I have a lot of problems with rail shots. My old eyes do play a factor but I keep trying and trying till my vision and muscle memory kick in.
Love your videos! Would be useful to show the cueball window on the drills.
Thanks that drill and all the other drills you are fabulous teacher
Thank you for your time and knowledge.....much appreciated....
Thanks Brian good solid instruction on how to elevate my game. You make it look so easy but I know otherwise have a good weekend and Godbless..

Great to hear!
Thank you for the video. I've gone from hit and hope to hitting with an Idea of what sort of an outcome I'm after.
I REALLY like your explanations and demonstrations. Lots of stuff to practice for a golf instructor.
Glad to help. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Bryan keep it up really appreciate the instructions
Man thanks for this. I was struggling on these rail shots and can now run it up a the full rail. Love your training style.

I have trouble finding the aim point on these but it sure works when it works
Nice Job of showing positional shots. And explaining it. 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸😀

Wow that's a tough drill!!! Great video as usual Brian. Cheers
Nice work, I enjoy your style and guidance.
I appreciate that!
Great instructions . . . it would be instructive to know the 'english' for each shot.
Thanks for watching. This is an older video. In most of my newer videos we do show the english for each shot. Thanks for watching.
