The short film centres on Ah Meng, a father in his 50s living alone in a small village. Every Chinese New Year, his son, Kai Jun, comes back to visit. However, this year, another argument breaks out between them-this time about their fractured family. Following the passing of Kai Jun’s mother, he harbours resentment towards Ah Meng for not being there for her when she needed him the most. From Ah Meng’s perspective, while he acknowledges his wife’s passing, he believes it is crucial to uphold her cherished tradition of eating Tang Yuan every Chinese New Year. In the end, the two reconcile, guided by the mother’s wisdom: that perfection is not as important as being together as a family.
