He saw himself as a provider for many, believed in treating employees fairly, paid his taxes cheerfully, felt those like himself, who benefitted the most, should pay the most in taxes, was a philanthropist, a leader and force for good in his community. His business was bought out in the 80s and his breed of businessman went out of style around that same time.
One thing I would do if I were in government would be to provide tax incentives to business founders who sell their businesses to their employees when they decide to retire, as well as government backed financial loans to help employees buy the business. Employee ownership of their own business opens a ton of doors for real grassroots prosperity.

Correct. Capitalism is an economic system. Democracy is a political system. Authoritarianism is a political system. Socialism is an economic system. Communism is a communal economic system combined with authoritarianism. It has always struck me how Americans problem with communism has never been Authoritarianism . It has always only been about the lack of wealthy individuals and Corporations. Which is why China isn't really a problem now. China is now a Authoritarian State capitilalist country, which is apparently okay.
Truth. Well said. I would go further to say that some have even made capitalism a religion, as something integral to excptionalism/elitism of the US being #1. It's very much a part of prosperity evangelical beliefs.
Democracy is when those who make decisions on your behalf have the duty to ask for your consent first. Today's republics are actually modern oligarchies where the interest groups of the rich are arbitrated by the people, that is, you can choose from which table of the rich you will receive crumbs. The "fatigue" of democracy occurs when there is a big difference between the interests of the elected and the voters, thus people lose confidence in the way society functions. As a result, poor and desperate citizens will vote with whoever promises them a lifeline, i.e. populists or demagogues. The democratic aspect is a collateral effect in societies where the economy has a strong competitive aspect, that is, the interests of those who hold the economic power in society are divergent. Thus those whealty, and implicitly with political power in society, supervise each other so that none of them have undeserved advantages due to politics. For this reason, countries where mineral resources have an important weight in GDP are not democratic (Russia, Venezuela, etc.), because a small group of people can exploit these resources in their own interest. In poor countries (Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, etc.) the main exploited resource may even be the state budget, as they have convergent interests in benefiting, in their own interest, from this resource. It is easy to see if it is an oligarchy because in a true democracy laws would not be passed that would not be in the interest of the many. The first modern oligarchy appeared in England at the end of the 17th century. After the bourgeois revolution led by Cromwell succeeded, the interest groups of the rich were unable to agree on how to divide their political power in order not to reach the dictatorship of one. The solution was to appoint a king to be the arbiter. In republics, the people are the arbiter, but let's not confuse the possibility of choosing which group will govern you with democracy, that is, with the possibility of citizens deciding which laws to pass and which not to. The solution is modern direct democracy in which every citizen can vote, whenever he wants, over the head of the parliamentarian who represents him. He can even dismiss him if the majority of his voters consider that he does not correctly represent their interests. It's like when you have to build a house and you choose the site manager and the architect, but they don't have the duty to consult with you. The house will certainly not look the way you want it, but the way they want it, and it is more certain that you will be left with the money given and without the house. It is strange that outside of the political sphere, nowhere, in any economic or sports activity, will you find someone elected to a leadership position and who has failure after failure and is not fired after 4 years. We, the voters, must be consulted about the decisions and if they have negative effects we can dismiss them at any time, let's not wait for the soroco to be fulfilled, because we pay, not them. In any company, the management team comes up with a plan approved by the shareholders. Any change in this plan must be re-approved by the shareholders and it is normal because the shareholders pay.

@@mikeb5372 When people work they generate total revenue for the company. Yes, workers do get paid either a hourly rate kr salary but it is a fraction of what revenue and profit they actually generate for the company. Let's use Uber for an example. The Uber company would not exist if it weren't for Uber drivers. Despite the fact that the drivers is what keeps the buisness operational their income is significantly less than the income of the of Uber executives who don't do any of the heavy lifting. The median estimated compensation for executives at Uber including base salary and bonus is $212,999, or $102 per hour. While the average hourly pay for an Uber driver in the United States is $18.75. So yes workers get paid, but they get basically get the crumbs and leftovers of the 1%. Meanwhile, the other 99% are constantly working and hustling while barely getting enough to make ends meet. This is the reality for many Americans as the gap between the poor and rich are growing farther apart and the American middle class is slowly fading away until its only the poor vs rich.
You pretend as though the "1%" is a constant upper class. The vast majority of "the 1%" this year will not be "the 1%" next year, nor were they last year. The people of Vermont need to retire that worthless old Commie
Agree!💯 but too late, everyone went back to sleep.
My uncle was a self-made wealthy business owner whose business expanded to greatness in the post-WWII era.
That’s what happens when community goes away
One thing I would do if I were in government would be to provide tax incentives to business founders who sell their businesses to their employees when they decide to retire, as well as government backed financial loans to help employees buy the business. Employee ownership of their own business opens a ton of doors for real grassroots prosperity.
That should tell you something
@@Descriptor413why don't the employees build their own business instead of waiting for handouts like vultures.

@theBear89451 more like the FBI has taken out any nation beginning to thrive in a system outside of capitalism. Look into how many smaller nations the US has toppled purely because it threatens capitalism. It's really sad.
Capitalism should be an economic system, not a political system. Democracy cannot co-exist with lobbyists.

@Mario-s1c2o you are absolutely 💯 percent right
Voted in VT this election. Proud to have put down this hero on my first ballot. Hope to meet Senator Sanders someday! ❤🇺🇸
Direct democracy and a growing and aware Cooperative economy and mandatory high school education in how to start, run and have a successful worker owned cooperative!

I pledge compliance to the flag, of the corporate state of America. And to the oligarchy, for which it stands, one nation, under the New York stock exchange, divisible depending on political convenience, with liberty, and a flexible definition of justice for all who can afford it. 🇺🇸
Simple reality is, there's a huge, lucrative difference between making a buck and making an honest buck.
The dream was to be in the middle class, not a greedy pig that oppresses the masses!

Again and again you prove the 1%
profits off US the 99%.... thanks Senator.
When you work do you not get paid? That's profit.. for you!.. from your employer! The worker profits from the 1%
@@mikeb5372 When people work they generate total revenue for the company.
People rise and fall to and from the "top 1%" each year because of variability of high income jobs.
Most of the people who you are villifying are just like you.
