Thank you for all the great advice. I realise now I was too eager to contact galleries… I’m gonna take a step back from that for now and make my own website.
Thank you Mike for all this helpful information.. I’ve been selling in galleries and cafe for awhile now and still learnt a lot from your info. Much love Karlena from NZ
I really enjoyed this...learnt good stuff and most importantly liked you style of presentation. Genuine and not overboard, arrogant or preachy. Thks...I subscribed.
I’ve seen a lot of “how to approach galleries” videos and this one is easily the best. Thank you. (“Thank you” seems incomprehensibly insufficient for the quality of this video 😀.) There, an emoji fixed it. 😀
Thanks for this. One query … wonder what you might advice about pseudo name? Reason I’d like to do it, is cause under my main name I’d like one style, but then like to be able to do different styles and genres that is not related. TIA
Thank you! I got ripped off selling a coat on Etsy, so I would much prefer having a professional middle-man to deal with this sort of thing. Their commission is well worth the "buffer" they provide.
Artist don't work with galleries, you're basically working for investors (they call themselves art collectors). Start with stickers, the goal is to learn how to sell. Cut out the middleman.
I have a few pieces in a local new gallery who has recently showed my work and many others. But recently they were complaining that artists were just dropping their art off and not putting the work in to sell their art. I am fine with that. Where I have a problem with them is they only promote works on Facebook and I was only mentioned once and no pictures of my paintings were shown. After that they continually post pictures of art in their gallery, but I have yet to see a post of my artwork. Their regular website is not maintained with current works. So I was a bit offended at this statement. I know it was targeted at all the people with work there. Myself I have a regular full-time job, but I do have my own blogsite and I have two other sites with my work on it. I am currently developing a plan and have a You Tube account set up. So to me I have already got a leg up on the others. But when I talk to the Gallery owner he often talks so much I cannot even explain what I am currently doing. I think once I pick up my stuff this weekend I will look to sell just online... Manage my own work... 👍
I always encourage artists to learn to sell directly - and also to learn to using marketing principles to find their own buyers - but not all artists will gain those skills or be successful. For the good artists, that’s where the gallery plays their part. Appreciate your point of view.
Thank you for this amazing video clip. I can relate to some of the stories of srtists putting the foot in with galleries. Thanks again.
Thank you so very much for posting this. I'm an artist hoping to open a gallery and you revealed so much about both sides.
❤excellent
What good advice.
Good information 👍🏾
Thank you!

Hi Mike and cheers from a reemerging visual artist in Arizona..for me it's like a Back to the Future movie, trying to reengage the new world..

I never had time to woo a gallery. I was busy finding and closing sales myself.
Thanks Mike, great overview and presented in an informative, easily digestible, style - a like and a sub from me :-)
