My ribs hurt from laughter. Your reaction to having that tray and realizing it was doubling in size again was pure gold. "David Tries Something New" would be the greatest show on earth.
Good time to learn to cook during lockdown. My mother taught me to cook from a young age when boys didn't do cookery (1960's). When my mother died 10 yrs ago my father had never cooked anything, not even a boiled egg, he could even burn salad and started off by living on ham sandwiches and fish & chips. Within a few weeks with a cookbook and with telephone guidance from my sister he became very accomplished in the kitchen. His pastry is to die for and now at the age of 87 makes the most amazingly good food. It's never too late to learn, keep trying!
This...was the equivalent of watching a “Man Cold” with all the excessive drama, whining and hand tossing of the average male in the kitchen, except when applied to baking bread. Loved every minute of it David! Lots of excellent bread baking how-to videos on TH-cam. Thanks for posting this. Much appreciated.
David, I don't think you could make a bad episode if you tried. This is gold and you won first prize - an edible loaf! Well done, both on your baking skills and your ability to entertain. Many thanks for the chuckles!
For me, this is the best cooking video that anyone has ever done before. No nice pictures, everything is ready and fits and is prepared and totally simple, no, it shows how it really is. Until you gathered your utensils, how you are totally done when you chain the dough, that you even have to change the T-shirt to the point where you kneel in front of the stove, I laughed tears. Thanks a lot for this.
Other narrowboaters may do cooking vlogs, but they know what they're up to. The joy of yours is the grumbling monologue of 'What do they mean by a pinch' comments! I loved this-it was so funny and I was encouraging you out loud the whole time. You did a grand job.
I enjoy all your videos, so much so that I have gone back to number one, when you first bought your boat, and starting all over again. I am just about to go and put my chickens to bed, get a cup of tea and then relax and enjoy this video. Thank you David for taking the time to make and create such relaxing videos for all of us to enjoy whilst isolated from family and friends. Huge Thank you.
Bloody hilarious. Highly entertaining. Immensely watchable. Should be nominated for a BAFTA. Next episode should be 'How I Spread the Jam on my Toast at Breakfast'. Brilliantly insane and funny.
Honestly I’dont know why we (viewers) wanted to see you baking a bread, but anyhow it was the most entertaining bread baking I’ve ever seen!!! 😅 Regards from sunny Poland! STAY SAFE!!!
Hi David, the Mrs and i are long term subscribers, and i have to say thank you for one of the funniest videos we have seen for a long time. keep up the good work, and hope to see you visiting the Llangollen canal soon. kind Regards NB Bluebelle.
Mate, that should be a blueprint for a new style in videos... I had so much fun watching this! What hidden gems are sleeping still on your hard drives? Let them come, please! Thx a lot! :-D
It may have been easier to pop down to Tesco for a medium slice loaf but it wouldn't have been as much fun 😷. Loved your culinary adventure and thank you for taking us along 🌻🐈🥰
David ! We have sat through this vlog from start to finish and we have been laughing non stop !!! 😂😂😂😂😂. You are hilarious!! We need a lot more of these whilst the Covid 19 restrictions are in force. Honestly better than any comedy we’ve ever seen 🤣🤣. Thanks so very much 😊
Dear David this was an absolutely wonderful lesson in how to make bread. Jacques Tati could not have done a better “parody “. I am happy you are not baking and selling bread for your survival. You are the favorite you tuber for many people, adding value and joy to our lives. May you never stop! 🙏
This was excellent entertainment value. I would certainly have not done any better than you David. Bravo bravo, well done, this deserves to be in your most popular video list.
I have never been so entertained by a 'cooking' show/segment, and, as an avid cook, I watch many. You have created an 'everyman' cooking experience......probably without knowing it.
This is the best "cooking show" I've ever seen. I love cooking and steer clear of baking bread. I will try again because you did a fabulous job with a pitiful oven. I am so impressed ! Thanks Becky!
I tried valiantly not to laugh… or cringe… but I failed at both. Leaving out the sugar is a problem and mixing metric and non-metric measurements kind of made my eyes roll back in my head, but I’m pleased to read that you’ve gotten the hang of it and things are better now. Everybody kind of blows it on their first experiment with bread. Nobody died, so there’s that. Positive thoughts!
Already watched this once but needed cheering up so watched it again. Absolutely brilliant and hilarious 😂😂. Believe or not you inspired me to have a go myself and it didn’t look great but tasted delicious so will keep on trying. Keep safe.
David, I stumbled across your channel by accident, as I was intent on trying to lighten the boredom of temporarily working from home and decided to broaden my horizons. Apart from a week-long foray on a narrowboat, around the Oxfordshire area, about 20 years ago, I have had no involvement with canally type things. However, I watched a couple of your later vlogs and have since subscribed and am now working my way through your entire catalogue! Your exploits are, to my mind, compulsive viewing. I love to see the undiscovered (to me, anyway) British countryside, especially at the sedate speeds afforded by Canal cruising and my interest in the day to day trials and tribulations of Canal life has grown immeasurably. Your presentation and narration betters most programmes on TV for quality, content and just down right entertainment value. I'm still giggling from watching this particular video. Good luck and the best of health to you. Stay safe and continue to enjoy your watery life, but please, also, continue producing your vlogs for the entertainment of those of us who are, by our own choice, more restricted in our lives. Best wishes. Ian.
As I continue watching, you have me laughing to tears! I raised 2 sons, have 3 brothers, and two grandsons. They are a barrel of laughs as well when it comes to cooking. You're doing pretty good. I absolutely love your comedic demeanor while cooking❤👍🏼
Dear David, my wife and I have been watching your video's for over a year now. I am quite pleased to see this one, as you clearly cook like me. My wife however is a trained chef, so I manage not to starve. The look of horror on her face when you measured the yeast and ended it with "near enough" has made my day. Returning to the video now. :)
We have watched this vlog 3 times already, not sure whether it is the humour of it all or the skills in unarmed "doughjudo" that you demonstrate when fighting the dough! Please, please, please - more of your cooking!
John from Australia I fond your show 4 days ago and now on no60 I am enjoying it so much. I always wanted to go on a holiday but to old now. Originally from Luton 1958 I will keep watching 👍
That is the most entertaining bread making show I have ever watched, and I have watched a few. You will have to start another channel now - Cutting the Loaf.
I found this vlog a few weeks ago and it has made quarantine a million times easier. I'm from California, USA and until I started watching it didn't even occur to me that canals are still around anywhere. Watching your vlog has been like taking a virtual trip to England on a lovely boating trip. I hope you keep sharing for as long as the life interests you. Thanks so much. You are awesome.
this is just wonderful. I have been baking my bread for over a decade. you are doing a great job. get yourself a dutch oven and do the no-knead bread every other day and you will have bread until the cows come home. flower, yeast, salt and water. that's it!
Pmsl! You are having a Victor Meldrew moment in that kitchen my lovely 😊 you are so funny 😂 and I love your humour. You cheered me up xxx huge hugs and stay safe 😘
Laughed out loud but also shouted at the TV a lot! The reason it didn't taste of anything was because you forgot the sugar! It reacts with the yeast. Even my hubby was giving you advice. Especially over what's a tablespoon and a cutlery knife 🤣🤣🤣
May i suggest your community of followers film their reaction to watching this video and upload, i for one am in tears watching this. I never comment on Videos, but felt compelled to do so half way through this - i've followed you since day one David, so now you know. Thanks for lightening my hour.
Rather than use a recipe book, I now find a video of whatever it is that I want to cook and follow along to that. I might not use this one as a guide, but it is entertaining.
David, as a guy who loves to bake bread your video really made me laugh. We have all been down your road, but not sure if we had the light hearted playfulness that you possess to post such a funny and revealing video. Oh please, carry on my friend carry on 😎
Well, I was feeling down again this morning.... listening to the news wasn't helping and the rainy skies weren't either. Ah, I thought ..I'll watch Cruising the Cut and see if "Tat" makes me feel better. Well indeed it did! I'm officially cheered up again. See yesterday's comment for details. Thanks David... I'd love to see more of such videos --- you are a natural comic. We love your show!
Very nice, indeed. Now it just needs a little bit of butter and some nice, thick cut orange marmalade. Or, of course, a matured cheddar. And thank you so much for providing us all with good entertainment in these lonely quarantimes
Kneading in addition to completing the mixing, develops the gluten, a sort of protein in long strands that gives bread its texture and strength. I learned to make bread by hand, getting a feel for the way the dough changes as you knead it, then moved onto a mixer and dough hook. The mixer is easier, it helps if you know the look and feel of the dough when it is ready. I enjoyed this.
David that was far more entertaining than you think. Watching you try and read those instructions on the tin remind me of my swearing at package I structions for being so small. Your loaf was properly done. You need a better oven if you really want to bake. Thank you for this. Quite enjoyed it.
Hi David, how are things with you? Have just had a visit from my aunt who is 75 years old. We have been telling her about you and your narrow boat. Showed her today the first video you did showing your boat. She was fascinated that you can live in such a small space. She loved the not a vlog and we are going to have a David canal afternoon, once we move house. I love this video of you baking bread. So did she. We have had a wonderful morning laughing and talking to you. More accurately, talking to the TV. She was giving you cooking advice because she is just like us and converses with the TV. Thanks again for sharing so much of yourself with us. Aunty Kathy is now a fan. Cheers. Keep safe.
Just stumbled across your cooking video and I must say it was both educational and amusing, personally if I found a TH-cam channel solely cooking in your style I'd subscribe instantly , well done you 👍
Really fun, David - thank you! Imagining your next two videos ... the first is an exposé on making cheese sandwich using over-done narrowboat bread; and the second is an exquisite DIY on narrowboat new oven installations. ;-)
Steps for "better" results next rime. 1) Rotate the bread every 10 min. in the oven to fix the "un-even" heat. 2) Use a "Tent" of plain tin foil for the first 10 min. Remove for the rest. 3) Use a scraper NOT a knife. Gets the bits off the bowl. ( and the counter ). 4) Remove from the oven a "bit" early and torn on the side to get a "nice" bottom. 5) Add more salt to the flower, before mixing the butter, or salted butter for better taste. 6) REAL BUTTER! Enjoy, P.S. Take a small "egg size portion" of the kneaded mixture and fry in a pan to "taste" the mix ( flattened to cook fast ).
Best cooking show ever. Finally someone that shows the reality of cooking. This is pretty much my life. It’s also why my wife doesn’t allow me in the kitchen.
Hello from landlocked Raleigh NC. My husband and I are not boaters but so enjoy your vlogs plus about 19 other narrowboaters. Your channel got us hooked and now we look forward to every vlog from you and your boating community. We really needed the laughs you gave us while making the bread. That is so me. Fran on Floating our Boat just did a recipe for flat bread with 3 ingredients. May attempt that one myself. Stay safe.
Sorry, Captain D... despite all your hard work and high production-values on other vids, this is one of the best you have ever done. (Though I note some of the deliberately accentuated comedy and judicious fast-forwarding (with sound) worked very well - so not without performing and editing work). Very very funny - though a talkie (!), it reminded me of Eric Sykes's and Tommy Cooper's "Plank" film - that sort of well-meaning incompetence made into fine comedy. If there were a You-Tube award for comedy vids, I would certainly nominate this. Excellent and very cheering in sad times - Thank you so much :) Take care and stay safe.
Thanks David, that was hilarious had me in stitches, I needed a good laugh. The bread turned out good, you are supposed to pick the bread up and tap the bottom and you will know if it sounds hollow. Bread always takes a long time, I have a bread machine which works really well. As you know you just bung everything in, in the correct order and turn it on, and about 3 hours later bob’s your uncle bread done.
David.. that has got to be the best vlog you have ever posted ... you have had me crying with laughter.
We want more please you hear more 😂😂😂👍
Also best video. Laughing so hard crying. Please keep them coming. Thank you
My ribs hurt from laughter. Your reaction to having that tray and realizing it was doubling in size again was pure gold. "David Tries Something New" would be the greatest show on earth.
I love this. It’s hilarious. You definitely should have a cooking show.
I will second that.
You should do this more often. This is a laughing vlog. Beautiful.
Indeed it's the ongoing commentary that makes this priceless and sooooo much better than all the other cookery/baking videos
As a bread baker, this is one of the funniest videos I’ve seen in ages. Love it!
🤣🤣

We had exactly the same in our house, however I learnt from my Nan then my mother.
@Catherine 26 Thank you for reading it and you're welcome :)

2 thumbs up

Cruising the crust...
Wold have been better with the sugar!
David can u see Better with ur glasses off.😎this video my me and my wife laff..
Oh, that is so sad and bad LOL
Oh come on, no knead for cheesy puns.
Mate, that should be a blueprint for a new style in videos...
I had so much fun watching this!
What hidden gems are sleeping still on your hard drives?
Let them come, please!
Thx a lot!
:-D
I love the ducks patiently waiting outside the window for you to finish baking and feed them presumably
It may have been easier to pop down to Tesco for a medium slice loaf but it wouldn't have been as much fun 😷. Loved your culinary adventure and thank you for taking us along 🌻🐈🥰

This is comedy gold! I'm only half way in, but I can't stop laughing. You sir are a natural entertainer.
Can’t stop laughing! Watching you on your knees, yelling toward the camera had me in a constant giggle. I really needed this today. Thank you!
By far one of your best videos. Thanks for such hilarious entertainment. Stay well.
I have never been so entertained by a 'cooking' show/segment, and, as an avid cook, I watch many. You have created an 'everyman' cooking experience......probably without knowing it.
I've just started the video and I'm laughing. It's amazing. I can't see how you didn't post it before. It's breadspectacular
I totally agree
This is the best "cooking show" I've ever seen. I love cooking and steer clear of baking bread. I will try again because you did a fabulous job with a pitiful oven. I am so impressed ! Thanks Becky!

Hilarious vlog, you should do more of these David.
The BEST cooking show ever, I really hope you make another 🤣😂🤣
"flour is going too get everywhere.".
My wife and I are dying of laughter here.......
Please post more.
You know, I usually dislike videos that have been sped up, but not yours. Specially this one whilst baking, had me in stitches.
I find most cooking vlogs rather boring. This was very entertaining I really enjoyed it.
My husband I were in stitches with this hilarious video ! You are a natural comedian , David !
Already watched this once but needed cheering up so watched it again. Absolutely brilliant and hilarious 😂😂. Believe or not you inspired me to have a go myself and it didn’t look great but tasted delicious so will keep on trying. Keep safe.
I'm not sure if it was your intention, but this is comedy gold!

Dead serious, do upload whatever you have lying around! You are helping me stay marginally sane, which my terrified quarentine mates appreciate.
This was some quality content to be fair. Thoroughly enjoyed the last 25 mins or so watching this
We have watched this vlog 3 times already, not sure whether it is the humour of it all or the skills in unarmed "doughjudo" that you demonstrate when fighting the dough! Please, please, please - more of your cooking!
Haha I like that and of course, it makes me think that martial arts students train in a "dough-jo", don't they?
John from Australia I fond your show 4 days ago and now on no60 I am enjoying it so much. I always wanted to go on a holiday but to old now.
Originally from Luton 1958 I will keep watching 👍
ChewingTheCrust 👍
Hilarious. Sounded a bit like Mork and Mindy on fast forward! 10 out of 10 for effort. More like this please
Excellent dramatic comedy!!! Particularly liked the scene when you were on all fours, looking into the oven.
This is your best video yet!!! I rather enjoyed (and agree) with your bent on tablespoons
I'm not sure how the bread will turn out but I haven't stopped laughing 🤣🤣🤣. This video is thoroughly entertaining 👍🏾🎥🍿⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.
😀👍
That is the most entertaining bread making show I have ever watched, and I have watched a few. You will have to start another channel now - Cutting the Loaf.
" a cutlerly knife! ?? Well aren't all knives cutlery knives??."
You're so funny!
Hope to see you on the bake off soon. :)
Love your reactions during the process.
I found this vlog a few weeks ago and it has made quarantine a million times easier. Watching your vlog has been like taking a virtual trip to England on a lovely boating trip. I hope you keep sharing for as long as the life interests you. Thanks so much. You are awesome.
Hilarious, incredulity and exasperation at the recipe. Glad to find I'm not alone. Praying to the oven is the fully bake off technique. Brilliant.
Lol!!! well done that was hilarious, tears rolling, you have such a way with words.
"Mix you bugger"........I was rolling on the floor. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That was hilarious! Thanks for making lockdown a bit more bearable!
this is just wonderful. I have been baking my bread for over a decade. you are doing a great job. get yourself a dutch oven and do the no-knead bread every other day and you will have bread until the cows come home. flower, yeast, salt and water. that's it!
Your video has a very high entertainment value and it reminded me about my first attempts at cooking. I invent my own dishes now.
Pmsl! You are having a Victor Meldrew moment in that kitchen my lovely 😊 you are so funny 😂 and I love your humour. You cheered me up xxx huge hugs and stay safe 😘
Absolutely brilliant kamikaze approach, both audio and visual. If you want your own cookery programme you have my vote.👍
The obvious talent before us.Marths Stewart is Soo envious
"Mix, you bugger!" This has to be one of my favourite TH-cam quotes...!
Very closely followed by...
"Holey moley mother of burnt!"
The best load of tat I have watched in a long time. you captured my cooking experiences so well.
Laughed out loud but also shouted at the TV a lot! The reason it didn't taste of anything was because you forgot the sugar! It reacts with the yeast. Even my hubby was giving you advice. Especially over what's a tablespoon and a cutlery knife 🤣🤣🤣
I Kneaded this to day
May i suggest your community of followers film their reaction to watching this video and upload, i for one am in tears watching this. I never comment on Videos, but felt compelled to do so half way through this - i've followed you since day one David, so now you know. Thanks for lightening my hour.
Hilariously adorable. I can’t stop smiling.

The best laugh I've had in days!
Missouri USA
Very nice, indeed. Now it just needs a little bit of butter and some nice, thick cut orange marmalade. Or, of course, a matured cheddar.
And thank you so much for providing us all with good entertainment in these lonely quarantimes
I think I laughed more while watching your bread making journey than while watching some sitcoms 😂😂. More cooking adventures would be great 👍
David. This was one of my favorite vids yet. You did a great job. Cheers. Stay well
I've just watched this, i'm laughing so hard David🤣'mix you bugger' was brilliant! Thank you so much for keeping us entertained!
That was so funny, you cheered me up. Thank you

Hello Aunt Kathy!
Love this vlog,I laughed all the way through .But well done for having a go. As with everything practice practice practice.
That was great fun - Glad it wasn't totally ruined by the oven.
The minute I heard you had no.sugar, I knew we were in deep trouble!😂
No sugar, no yeast rise.. Poor Bread....
I am so surprised it rose without sugar. Marvellous fun on an isolated cold rainy day. Thank you for a wonderful half hour. Absolutely hilarious!
My mom bakes bread very often and i can tell that that is a very good looking bread on the inside.
OMG, my wife and I laughed so hard. How anyone could make the mundane act of making bread so hilarious is true comedic genius. Kudos!
Totally agree...we'll watch it again for sure! Loved it!
What a joy to witness true haute cuisine preparation - no more Wonderloaf on this vessel!! Very enjoyable to watch in these testing times!
Hilarious! An absolutely delightful 25 minutes David!
Just stumbled across your cooking video and I must say it was both educational and amusing, personally if I found a TH-cam channel solely cooking in your style I'd subscribe instantly , well done you 👍
Haha I don't think I could cope with that much cooking!!
Really fun, David - thank you! Imagining your next two videos ... the first is an exposé on making cheese sandwich using over-done narrowboat bread; and the second is an exquisite DIY on narrowboat new oven installations. ;-)
Very entertaining! Just what we need to help us through the isolation!
Oh I do love you David. That's the funniest thing I've seen for a long time. I was literally crying xx
Enjoy,
P.S. Take a small "egg size portion" of the kneaded mixture and fry in a pan to "taste" the mix ( flattened to cook fast ).
I enjoyed that a lot more than I possibly should have.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching you first effort at making bread. Thank you for showing your quest.
Best cooking show ever. Finally someone that shows the reality of cooking. This is pretty much my life. It’s also why my wife doesn’t allow me in the kitchen.

Thank you for this hilarious video. Just what everyone needs during these unusual times. Love your vlogs!
I love the way the drawer jams. That always happens to me!
Oh my gosh, thankyou for that. It's the funniest video I've seen all day! And that's saying something!
