    I usually don't like lots of ornaments and rubato, but this is so uniquely beautiful, especially fugue. It sounds sad, delicate, and transparent. So sensitive and incredibly beautiful. I felt like I heard this piece for the first time.

    I Rembember this being posted on AoB: In heaven for 12.40 minutes! My mother asked me if I was still alive since I was not moving of whatsoever. It just grabbed my heart and made me feel like going into eternity! Thanks to Mr. Van Asperen and the NBS for this most touching performance!

    Excellent rendition and performance here and in the whole series.
    I've just realized that there's no interpretations of BWV 850, BWV 864 and BWV 868 in these outstanding series. It would be such a gift having them in order to complete the first WTC book with these magnificiebt versions by Netherlands Bach Society.
    Greetings from Bogotá, Colombia.

      Good point. Those three BWV numbers still need to be published indeed. However, the good news is that we‘ve already recorded them, so we will complete the WTC I series somewhere in the next months.

This video made me change my mind. I think I'll live stream the new music, clutter and all. The mess in the room actually enhances the performance. Thank you, Bob.

    • @TheGloryofMusic
      @TheGloryofMusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it's called "overholding", and it's interesting that the technique was apparently unknown to earlier generations of harpsichordists. However, the "revival" type of instruments they played had a such a dry tone that it would perhaps not work very well.

    • @leonardschick5257
      @leonardschick5257 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a harpsichordist I am often astonished why people use overlegato. It's not historically informed for Bach (only for broken chords, like for instance the first prelude of WTC I) and it's not beautiful. The norm was a slight overlegato (release slightly before the next note, no staccato!). Legato, staccato and overlegato existed in some context.

    Wonderful! Thoughtfully kept to the mood and emotions of the piece. Appropriate coloring. Would have liked more intensity towards the end of the Prelude and especially the Fugue much more intensity and rubato and volume as an expressive dialogue.

    Het zou mooi zijn als het commentaar en de uitvoering van een stuk
    enigszins dezelfde metagegegevens hebben om na het downloaden de beide
    bestanden alfabetisch bij elkaar te laten groepen en niet alsnog alles
    te moeten hernoemen naar een zinvolle omschrijving. De B van Bach als
    componist staat wel heel erg ver af van de uitvoerende bij een V van Van
    Asperen om maar een voorbeeld te geven. Raadpleeg anders even een
    bibliothecaris. Daar zijn deze opnamen toch veel te professioneel voor
    om zo knullig om te gaan met de metadata. Het zou voor de hand liggen om
    bij de omschrijving bijv. te openen met BWV-nummer of de naam van de
    uitvoerende(n) in uitvoering en commentaar.
    Dan staat alles al netjes gegroepeerd.

    • @HerrMichaelKohlhaas
      @HerrMichaelKohlhaas 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      "Pointless ornaments" I don't know what that actually is supposed to be. When you study the sources of the time, it becomes clear that ornamentation was a subjective matter left to the taste of the performer. And if you look at the versions of the Inventions and Sinfonias that the Bach pupil Gerber copied, you see that they are much more ornamented than what Mr. van Asperen has (masterfully) presented.

    Ik heb dit stuk (beide delen) vaak gespeeld, maar er altijd een paar kleine problemen mee gehad. De prelude is eigenlijk helemaal niet geschikt voor klavecimbel: het is net een Italiaanse triosonate en zit vol met allerlei dissonante vertragingen die op twee violen prachtig schrijnend zouden klinken maar op dit instrument doodvallen. Op piano klinkt het beter, op orgel nog beter. En liefst wat minder snel dan Van Asperen hier doet. En de fuga, die cerebrale fuga met zijn twaalftoonsthema? Die is prachtig, maar past niet bij het aardse preludium.
