I did actually get to see this at a cinema in Bournemouth back in 1981. (Yes, I'm that old!). What a movie, and it still holds up today. I'd already seen Halloween, The Fog and Assault on Precinct 13, but this was the film that really sold me on John Carpenter. His early films were (and still are) unique. Apparently The Duke's twitch was Issac Hayes idea, and he said it was to show that Snake had really gotten under his skin....genius.
It's been quite a while since I've watched this one. I need to give it another watch this weekend. I used to work in the town Harry Dean Stanton was from. It was the only thing the town was famous for. 'The guy from Alien is from here!'. 😂
Great movie. Great show guys! My father always liked snake and introduced me to this film.Frank,Darren how about A Clockwork Orange? Be great to hear your thoughts guys
That’s great - same for me, I remember watching it with my Father too. Clockwork Orange would need some serious thinking given the light hearted tone of our show. Some pretty heavy issues in that movie 😬
I can't believe I missed this episode! Just randomly popped up on my suggestions! This is in my top 3 movies of all time, no doubt. Best moment is that bridge chase at the end, ending with Crazy Donald Pleasence "YOU'RE THE DUKE! YOU'RE THE DUKE!" This movie also inspured one of mt favorite video games, Metal Gear Solid! Best moment thats not in the movie: the deleted bank heist!
I gotta respectfully disagree with Frank my favourite moment/line is Donald Pleasance at the end screaming “A-Number ONNNEEEEEEE!!! You’re the duke! You’re the duke! You’re… the duke. You’re A-Number One…” just that whole line reading was perfection 🤣 - but yeah that watch didn’t come with the Blu Ray, just bought it from some company that sold them. I don’t wear it out in public anymore haha 😆 it’s just a display piece.
I love the concept of this movie of NYC being a giant prison. One of my favourite scenes is when Plisken fights with the big bare chested guy in that ring. Isn't Adriane Barbeau in this? The sound track is killer. Didn't Carpenter cut out a scene at the beginning where Plisken and another character Rob a bank?

That’s so cool Patrick. I wish I was born 10 years earlier so I could have experienced Halloween, Fog, Escape etc in the cinema.

I love the fact that it was supposed to be a watch from 1997. It looks more 70’s than 90’s
@@TSLMoviePodcast Hahaha ain’t that the truth 😂
