I love it when a plan comes together. Funny how a could different YT channels I follow with Mk1 golf builds are just about to chuck on all the parts to get them on the road 😁. Excited.
Yeah. The "TH-cam Fabulous" method of ratchet projects where they're hacking tunnels and using worm-gear clamps on universal parts everywhere. Glad to see someone who takes the time to plan out the build and put some thought into it.
Thank you so much!! Really appreciate that!! Help spread the Mystery Garage word, so we can prove that "real" true project cars mean far more than the "TH-cam Fabulous" method of building cars! We are doing this for the hobby not the fame! Appreciate all your support and kind words... Now lets get back to work hahaha
I love that you make lists. I truly feel that this is key to keeping a project on track and moving forward. Visually being able to see what needs to be ordered, and what the next steps are is so helpful plus! I love crossing things off the lists. It gives you a sense of accomplishment that things are heading in the right direction. I know it's might be a bit to soon to say but do you have a completion goal date for project 'StepChild'?
Hahaha Thank you! umm nothing firm yet but I should come up with something!! Leavenworth Cruise would be cool!! Film the whole journey to success kinda thing!! Would be fun... Although borders and Covid play a huge factor there... So i guess we see where the chips may fall? Appreciate everything as always!! Till the next one!...
I had heard great things about S&P Automotive’s mount kit and other offerings so that’s who I went with. I also got their mk4 shift plate adapter to run the donor shifter. My mk4 donor was a 2002 beetle. Grabbed the engine, transmission, harness, and as much odds and ends as I thought I would need. Similar plans as you shared here. Stoked to learn from you and your videos! Excited to get to that point in my build where I can use these parts.
Man that sounds like and awesome little project!! Your absolutely right, S&P makes some incredible parts for this chassis too and i try to support them as much as i can because we all need too!! Those that support our hobby need our support too!! Appreciate the comments and always and thanks so much for watching!! Good luck on the build! love to hear more down the road! Cheers!!
Whoo Hoooooo parts parts parts... getting to the exciting bit now bro 💪 the way I burst out laughing when you pulled up in the MK4 😂. Looking forward to the coming episodes, you're doing great as always.
Hahaha Thanks you! Ya its really starting to get exciting now. Thank you so much again for your comments, really do appreciate it! Thanks so much for watching!! Cheers!!
Exactly!! Every time i see a mk4, i see a potential parts car hahaha! #saveallthemk1s. Appreciate the comments as always and thanks again for watching!! Cheers
Doner car is the way to go. I bought a mk4 vr6 golf for the motor trans wiring and a bunch more odds and ends. And a mk1 cabrio for iner fenders and other sheet metal both cars cost me $1000 I found that to be a really good deal. As usual great episode great work brother cheers
Thank you so much! Yes you absolutely right, parts cars save no only money but headaches to by giving you spares and all the small proper hardware for when you both things back together. Appreciate the comments as always and thanks for watching!!
You better believe it! Yes i will show everything in detail when the time comes; shift linkage swap is far more simple than you'd think... but then again i will show you lol. So stay tuned for that! Thanks again for the comments and thanks so much for watching!!
I found the issue of Performance VW that had my favorite Rabbit of all time in my basement. It was July 2002, and the car was Danny Allen's Orange Mk1. It is pretty similar to the red one you showed in the video. Page 66, if you happen to have that issue. It's the cover car.
Very Nice! Having a dream car/goal car is always such a help and a motivating factor that can drive your project! I can stress enough how important it is to PLAN and think about your builds before jumping in! Its often those jump first plan later kind of builds that end up stalled or often not completed because of a road block that was hit that wasn't previously planned or foreshadowed. Planning or finding a dream car to target is often a perfect way to get started!! Cheers and thanks so much for watching!!
Great, just started watching the Playlist of the build ... and now I'm skipping way ahead lol . Just curious... why Carbs not ITBs ? Especially with wanting to cruise in the mountains with big elevation changes ? Also .. my fiancé says you need a proper pointing stick when the white board comes out 😆. She also said a laser pointer would work too
Hahaha and a white lab coat! True mad scientist style lol.... Ummm just really always wanted carbs, i guess more for on hand tunability, less wiring, less computers, more old school, more braps, less fittly bits. Keeps it simple. If it doesnt start i can fix that with hand tools, dont have to pull out the laptop and consult people far smarter than me with active "page up" buttons. Not saying its wrong or right... just a choice, but if i drive high elevations and i know that's the plan i can experiment with jetting changes, that will actually be quite fun! Love the comments! Keep em coming! Thanks so much for al;l your support!! Cheers!!
Hahaha thank you, Absolutely! Ill be going into detail as we toss these parts together so stay tuned! Lots of detail to come!! Thanks for the comments and thanks so much for watching!!
Hey ya it is always a tough one. I always find the head of the bolts first with either a knife of a screwdriver/chisel, undo the bolts then proceed to cut the separation line slowly while wiggling the fender at the same time. Usually help promote separation. End of the story, flat out sucks lol and there is no fun way of doing it! Good luck with the project and thanks for watching!!
Can you steer me in the right direction on my engine bay wiring harness, I’m going carb from fuel injection on my 83 gti, I need to peal back the wires in the engine bay that I won’t need anymore once I do the carb conversion. Plus I’m doing a wire tuck too, any suggestions??? Thanks in advance 🙏🏻
Honestly the best thing i can promote is grab yourself a Bentley/Haynes manual, flip to the wiring pages and put your head down. And when you have a question, speak up, ask the internet for help. Electrical work is very hard to coach remotely, it is also different as per car options and or regions of the world it was built but the base harness is always the same. I have decent knowledge but far from deep knowledge so even i consult the professionals when it comes to simplifying wiring. Can save you a massive headache in some cases and usually strongly represents the costs involved! Hope that helps however it can, you have my emotional support!! Cheers and good luck with the project! Thanks for watching!!
@@MysteryGarage Thanks for replying back it is appreciated 🙏🏻 I will sit down with the book and firgure it out, I thought maybe you may have known someone who can do it for a cost of course, but I guess I’m taking out the fun out of my project. Thanks for the advice I’m gonna push through with my project. Looking forward to the next video update you post, your vids keep me motivated to continue working on my mk1👍🏻.

Build quality may be slightly lower maybe but the real problem is most people don't look after things like they used to. Most people a car is just a car to go places and pretty common to get washed 1 or 2 times a year. Just my opinion for what I see in my area
Right?! Hahaha nah MK1's are my thing. Only thing that really gets me excited about mk4's is the parts and awesome swap potentials into earlier cars!! Appreciate your support very much!! Thank you!!
