    Thank you so much. I have had this machine since 66or67, I gift from my husband. It has been so faithful through lots of use in the past and less frequently now. I needed to change the belt which I had never done thanks to my handy husband who always cared for the machine before his death. I never dreamed it was so easy! I still have the instruction book that demonstrates everything except changing the belt! Thank you again! It was also a good review regarding oiling!

    I have a 158. 14301 is my grandmother's I don't know how much she used it. I don't remember her using it much. Probably just amend and she didn't buy it new from what I can tell and what I know from my grandmother but she got lucky and it was really a nice one hardly ever used. She maintained it very well. It got put into storage not by me by somebody else who got tired of it being in the house and I got lucky it was still very lubed up. Nothing stuck or anything like that and it sat in storage for several years. I've used it. I have a sitting on a table that s where it stays and I very much like it. It will do everything I ever need to do

    I thank you so much for this video!!!! I have model 158.13011 and there is not one single video for it. I stumbled upon yours and our machines are an exact match!!!! You're the ONLY person with info on this machine.

    I just inherited this machine (or - close, it's a 158.330) and it's my first sewing machine period! I so appreciated this video as a walkthrough of this lovely machine - very glad to get familiar with it!

    Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I have the exact sewing machine model at home. It was found used back in 2015 and paid $75 for this Kenmore and sewing table.
    My wife and I are currently in a sewing class together at our local adult education school. Of course, I take this machine to class and I made a base for the machine to carry it in.
    I was in class and the machine kept zig zagging and couldn't figure out how to do a straight stitch. I found your video and helped me while in class. I also am thankful for showing the model number for the buttonhole attachment. I found only one on eBay and ordered it for this sewing machine. I will give my machine the proper maintenance it needs.

    Thank you so much for this video. I have had this exact machine for about 12 years now I love it. I find that i am having an issue with trying to sew Kevlor. I managed to fix the one item (it was a bit of a struggle). the second one, I am having a problem. The needle breaks, the thread bunches and such. I know i am doing something wrong. This machine is a tank. Thank you in advance

    This is a lovely machine. I also have a Kenmore but a different model. I have the 158-15251. I just love it. Sews beautifully. Thanks for the video. Really enjoyed it.

    Very good demonstration of this classic Kenmore. Thanks for the help as I have a similar 158 series and I learned something about mine too.

    I have one of these machines.... it was my moms. Ive lubed it up but it was in storage a while. When i press the pedal the belt and wheel moves but the needle does not. Where do i start? Is this an issue a person without these skills can fix on their own or should i be going to a shop?

    I have the 158.40 model and was wondering on the tension assembly knob does the cap come off. I’m Guessing there is a screw somewhere and I’m thinking it’s behind the dial cover. I’m having trouble putting it back together. It looks like this one in your video.

    Thank you for your video. I have 158.24101 model sears Kenmore. My machine was seemingly never used. The inside is lintfree, no sign of any use at all, but … it doesn’t move at all! It winds up a bobbin, the wheel will turn by hand but that’s it. Nothing else moves al all, not even with force. I’ve now oiled it heavily, and an hour later nothing has changed. Can you advise me in any way? I’m sure once I can get it moving it’s going to be a dream machine, and I’m very excited for that. I don’t have a manual, maybe I should google it. I hope you can help me.

      Make sure you're using sewing machine oil, anything else might lock it up more. Putting the machine in a hot car for a day or so will sometimes loosen it up but It's hard to know what the problem might be. If you use Facebook there is a group that can talk you through it called Vintage Sears Kenmore and White Sewing Machines.
      m.facebook.com/groups/680558488716580/
      That group will also have a free copy of your manual to download. When you ask for help, try to give them pictures because it's help them remember which machine you have. Someone there will probably know exactly what to do for it.

      Hi. I had the same problem with my Kenmore. It was completely seized up. I put sewing machine oil and let it soak in and after a week no movement. It took weeks but it eventually loosened up and is working very well now. So patience is key. Good luck with yours.

    My mom has the model 33. It hasn’t been used in over 45 yrs. I just opened it up out the cabinet table that it’s in. Wanted to see what may be wrong with it. I noticed the belt looks like it needs to replaced, do you know where I can get a replacement belt? , also the cover that goes on the of the needle that covers the bobbin is missing. What is that called ?

    Thank you for this video...I've had the same machine for 55 years and still using it. Don't know if you can help me with a problem. My needle is stuck in the down position...will not move. Thanks again for the video

    • @DetailDisoriented
      @DetailDisoriented  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My first guess would be that you might have thread bunched around the bobbin that's keeping the machine from moving. Other than that, if it hasn't been oiled recently or if it sat in a hot place for a while something may have gummed up inside. There is a Facebook group called "Vintage Sears Kenmore And White" that is full of experts on these machines that could help you.

    How do you figure out 1/4 inch seam allowance w needle setting to the left of center? I can't figure out how to align fabric.

    Any idea where I could find the pull down spring or a compatible part? Seems all I find is pull up tension spring assemblies. Are they a suitable replacement? Thanks

    Hi. What is the size of the throat space from needle to base?

    • @DetailDisoriented
      @DetailDisoriented  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's 7". If youre looking for a quilting machine, keep in mind the needle is left homing and it uses super high shank feet.
