Partey's profile is SO unique, there is a reason he was Arteta's first big midfield signing. I can't think of an analog for him in Europe right now besides Fofana. But would he adapt and be ready right away? I say keep him and buy another midfielder. I would advise that if Partey stays, he needs to retire from international football.
Rice is great defensively but can not do what Partey can do. Partey can beat the press and has an amazing passing range. People forget he was probably the best CDM in 2022-2023 season. Better than Rodri. Odegard kind of suffered in the early part of this season because Rice is too safe with his passing and was not able to find Odegard fast enough.
I am from Catalonia and have watched basically all of de Jong's games for Barça. I think his best role is as an 8 who is free to make runs to the box, something he did very well under Koeman. As a 6? I dont see it, and the evidence is there: this season without Busquets nobody has proved to be fit to play that position. All this is my opinion considering i dont think Rice should or will play as the main 6, just like this second half of the season

I wouldn't be surprised to see Arteta develop Timber into more of a DM role, he has everything you need to thrive in that position. I'd like to see the club buy Hato, continue his development as a CB and LB, play Timber as LB to begin with but as Hato develops and gets more comfortable in the PL etc start utilising Timber more in central areas as that eventual Partey replacement. Then you can bring in a more ball playing CM if needed like a De Jong.
Big signing for me will be ST. My summer predictions is: - 1 CDM/CM probably not Bruno and not De Jong, they will be looking at different options and playing the market. Onana or Fofana for me - 1 LB (left footed) I think this is a big one, Tierney not really part of the team and Zinchenko will probably be phased out. His injury issues have been a concern, but if we sold him now, then I think that could be a mistake. Just look at what he did for us last season. He only has 1 year left on his deal, so I would keep him for the final year and let him leave on a free if he continues to be plagued by injuries. But what he can teach/pass on to the likes of Rice and a potential other midfielder could really benefit the team. It also means we would have extra depth for the coming season, especially if we are aiming to push on all trophy fronts. We also haven't seen the best of him this season, as he didn't have enough games to get back to full fitness and match sharpness. So if he has a full pre-season to really get back to his best, he could be very influential for next season. We also have to remember how much experience he brings to the side and more importantly, Jorginho won't be playing loads of games next season. We have to remember Jorginho plays with pain and constantly needs painkiller injections to play. By having both of these players for next season, it could prove to be a massive positive before either one or both move on next summer.

I agree with you about Partey's qualities and what he could bring to the team. The operative word being "could". So a few counterpoints 1. Availability. This is THE big one. Partey was brought in to play for us in his prime. He practically couldn't play at all in his prime. I am not saying he is at fault for being unfit, but we can't keep adjusting to what is now essentially a squad player who would be available for less than half the season. 2. In every match he played recently, we somehow felt less secure because his passing and ball retention was rusty, to say the least. This ties back to his lack of continuity and struggles for match fitness. 3. We are skirting FFP. However slightly it may be, we are. We have to monetize some of the older, less used furniture, so to speak. And we can only do it within the window that he remains fit, which is now. 20-25 million for Partey would still be silly money, but not improbable. Would a younger player not do the job of complementing Rice, while remaining fit? Your guess is as good as mine. But Partey has proven his body can't though the mind and spirit may be willing.

Two of the key rare skills that Partey has, that is hard to find in other defensive midfielders, is his press resistance and ball progression. Those two traits plus defensive ability is what we need to look for in a player to replace him. I’m seeing people suggest players who haven’t got anywhere near the needed press resistance and/or ball progression.

From Iniesta, Xavi and Busquets to KDB, Rodri and Silva/Foden. Pep never sacrifice technicality, silkyness and tekkyness in the midfield. The game nowadays might need more physicality and athleticism. It’s true that the ManCity trio are more physical than the Barcelona trio. But in terms of technicality, there is no big difference. There might be a slight drop off but it’s not significant. Whereas Rice does offer more physicality and defensive capability, but he is a huge drop off in terms of technicality if you compare him to those Spanish greats.
Silva & KDB are nothing like Xavi & Iniesta. KDB is not even a midfielder. Has less than 50 touches p90 on average. But I got your point. Technical security is King for Pep!

Arsenal had a dip midseason. There is a price that comes with having a better defence. Rice just can’t play progressive passes like Partey could do. So the quality of our build up drops. And as a team, we stopped playing such a high line as we did last season in exchange for a better defence. So in terms of the quantity (the density) of players that are close to the opponent box, we are not as good as last season. When Partey was injured, we have no solution playing against teams that park the bus. We are forever passing between Rice and our defenders. In terms of our ability to break down a low block, both our quality and quantity have dropped. As a result, the quality of our possession, ball progression and chance creation were nonexistent.

Rice joins the defence everytime I would argue the Arsenal 6 role is differenr from the barca one. De jong would basically be the metronome.

He's not 'press resistant' though. He's often caught dithering on the ball.

Is going to be interesting to see if/how the club shifts Partey and Zinchenko this summer when both seem to be indicating a desire to stay. Both really need to go to make room. Keeping both Partey and Jorginho doesn’t allow room attractive for a new CM signing, and we can’t be reliant on Partey due to his availability issues.

Inverted fullbacks are 80% central midfielder if their team control 80% of possession.
Kiwior, Tierney, Tomiyasu can’t do what Zinchenko could do with the ball in possession allowing us to have an extra silky player on the pitch to maximise our possession, ball progression and chance creation. It so frustrating to watch them having the ball in the build up play.
We should not sell Zinchenko unless we can get Cancelo, Guerreiro or RicoLewis.

Zubimendi is Jorginho replacement not Partey. His physicality is comparable to Vieira.
Wharton would be perfect imo. One of the only players who has the three main traits we need in a Partey replacement: ball progression, press resistant, and defensive ability

the biggest need in midfield is to bring in cover for declan rice. arsenal already have partey and jorginho in the 6. who covers rice in the 8 if he goes down? we should have gotten youri tielemans on a free from leicester last summer but i digress. will rice have to play injured like partey did last season? look at how that worked out for partey and it could happen to rice as well. focus on an 8 and a center forward (and pay for david raya) and there's not much money to replace partey.

The game nowadays might need more physicality and athleticism. It’s true that the ManCity trio are more physical than the Barcelona trio. But in terms of technicality, there is no big difference. There might be a slight drop off but it’s not significant.
Whereas Rice does offer more physicality and defensive capability, but he is a huge drop off in terms of technicality if you compare him to those Spanish greats.
Silva & KDB are nothing like Xavi & Iniesta.
KDB is not even a midfielder. Has less than 50 touches p90 on average.

If you cannot improve on Partey then why weaken your team? We saw what happened vs Villa at home, that's life without Partey. All possession no penetration. If Frankie De Jong can be the target then fine. So without any adequate replacement, 10 games out of Partey is worth it.

Arsenal had a dip midseason.
There is a price that comes with having a better defence. Rice just can’t play progressive passes like Partey could do. So the quality of our build up drops.
And as a team, we stopped playing such a high line as we did last season in exchange for a better defence. So in terms of the quantity (the density) of players that are close to the opponent box, we are not as good as last season.
When Partey was injured, we have no solution playing against teams that park the bus. We are forever passing between Rice and our defenders. In terms of our ability to break down a low block, both our quality and quantity have dropped.
As a result, the quality of our possession, ball progression and chance creation were nonexistent.
We sorted all of those scoring issues before Partey got out of physio room.
