In this episode, we travel in our converted Ford transit campervan, with our dog, to Creswick, Victoria, Australia. We free camped at Slaty Creek Campground In the episode I show you around the free campsite in this episode.
On this getaway, our friends Laura and Rob bring along their new La Vista caravan free camping for the first time. They show off their camp cooking skills and provide some camping tips.
We decided to share the camp cooking on this getaway. For breakfast, our friends cooked us Spanish beans with chorizo and for dinner, made chicken schnitzels with a mushroom sauce with a side of potato mash. Adam and I cooked roast chicken and vegetables in our camp oven and cooked up a ‘big breakfast’ over the gas burner. There’s nothing like outdoor cooking!
In this episode, we try gold panning, where Rob shows how he uses his metal detector in the search for gold. We take you for a walk around Creswick and Saint Georges Lake.
Creswick is a historic former gold-mining town, located between Ballarat and Daylesford. The town is surrounded by thick pine and eucalyptus plantations, many of which were first established when the Victorian School of Forestry opened in 1910. A number of historic buildings which serve as a reminder of the town's gold mining history line the streets of Creswick. There is the post office (built in 1862), former town hall (1876), former Bank of NSW (1861), and several other public buildings and churches. At the corner of Albert Street and Raglan Street is a bandstand that dates back to 1897.
Creswick offers several natural attractions and outdoor activities for visitors. Enjoy bushwalking and scenic drives through the extensive Creswick Regional Park.
Visit Calambeen Park which was the town's Chinese camp in the gold mining days and now features lakes that are suitable for fishing or swimming. Park Lake Botanical Reserve, located on the Midland Highway, is a 15-hectare park that was established in 1860 and features a lake, rotunda, established trees and recreational facilities.
ST. GEORGES LAKE
St Georges Lake is a local favourite for swimming, walking and photography. Once a mining dam, the lake has been developed into a picturesque haven for relaxation and recreation. The main picnic area features free electric barbecue facilities, picnic tables, bench seating, grassy lawns, toilets and a walking track.
SLATY CREEK CAMPGROUND
We camped for free at the local Slaty Creek Campground within the Creswick Regional Park, which consists of three camping areas. Campground No 1 is at the entrance, which has the drop-toilets. The area provides camping on both sides of Petticoat Link Track, with Slaty Creek running alongside.
This whole area is fantastic for bushwalking, birdwatching and gold prospecting. No booking is required, and camping is free.
THE FARMER’S ARMS HOTEL, CRESWICK
The award-winning pub and restaurant is a perfect out-of-town destination. The Farmers Arms offers a paddock-to-plate experience. They have an inviting atmosphere and friendly and knowledgeable staff. You can sit in the relaxed bar, lounge area or beer garden and enjoy a classic bar meal and one of the 12 beers on tap. They are pet friendly, where you have your dog in the beer garden.
We hope you enjoy our channel. We enjoy part-time van-life, creating weekly episodes that are live at 5pm (AEST) Sundays, and sharing our experiences on our travels with our cavoodle, Twyla. In our episodes we stay at free and paid campsites, showing our tips and tricks on how to make life on the road easier and fun. Come join us on our adventures!
Just tried your hack with the trailer lamp tape - works a treat!!
Thanks again for the great content lads!
Great to hear! So happy you found it useful and thanks for watching our episodes. We really appreciate it. The boys & Twyla
Laura wins the cooking prize. Adam was disqualified for forgetting the potatoes.😀
Hi Greg, we'll pass onto Laura that she has 'a win' with her cooking. Deano
That bullet the prospector found is a 303 rifle bullet capable of accuracy of a mile in distance, great v/ log, esp the camp cooking ,cheers from Geelong, ❤️🦘🦘🦘
Thanks again for all your support and checking out the episode really appreciate it Deano
How did I know Adam would find the best bakery in town. I think I'll forgive him for Forgetting the potatoes. First prize for breakfast. I think Laura takes the cooking championship out 😀
Hi Ed, we'll tell Laura she's winning on the cooking stakes. Deano
Great video guys. Creswick looks really picturesque and peaceful. The camp grounds look really good. Your meals look delicious.
Thanks Michelle, happy to read you enjoyed them. It is a picturesque town! Deano
Another amazing episode. You're making me want to go camping. I think your "lumpy" spider was carrying babies.
Looking forward to the next episode x
We agree Emily...luckily it wasn't inside! Dean
What u should have done ,is secretly paint a small piece of granite rock, with gold paint and place it in the stream before the other prospectors arrive, would have been sooo funny😀😀😀😂🤣❤️🦘🦘🦘
I couldn’t do it to rob that would be so cruel but yes, it would be very funny lol 😂 Thanks for checking out the episode Stephen
Thanks
Hi Vikki, thank you so much for your generous donation! We really appreciate it. Deano, Adam and Twyla
Awesome
Thanks Rachel,
Deano
Another great video guys. Great spot by the look of it, very picturesque, not sure about those spiders though, yuck. Both were winners with the cooking competition I liked the look of all meals. Pity you all are not millionaires after the panning but better luck next time. Thanks again.
Hi again, Richard. Yeah, shame we didn't strike gold. Better luck next time for us I guess. Guess we learnt a lesson - don't look around after dark as that's when the spiders come out! Glad you enjoyed it. Adam
Awesome again ..may i tsk tsk everyone on the GREAT potato famine for the roast ..i felt for you,,until you pulled out the hash browns for breakfast..anyway looked so good 😋
Hi Cheryl, oh yeah! The potato famine - Adam should've used that angle and said he couldn't buy any ha ha. Deano
Well done once again guys.
I’m a bit slow typing so don’t think I’m not involved the whole show.
All good Kim, Deano
Brilliant idea showing where the electric charger is! Thank you! Towing with a Tesla is frontier stuff at present as when towing a small van you need to unhitch at some spots as access can be really crook! Did you know the park you guys were at in Lakes Entrance had a charger between cabins 1 and 2. These are both doggie friendly.
Hi Rexjackson007, thanks for the message. Glad to read mentioning of the charger location was handy to know. Deano
Was great video. Loved the cooking all wins. Will have to get up their one day and try my luck. looks amazing but don’t know about all those spiders 🕷
Hi Tiree - yeah they're creepy - and worse, how do you know if they're poisonous or not, especially for our pooches. Deano
Hi guys, really enjoy watching your camping adventures. Do you have any videos at The Grampians?
Hi Marla, happy to read you're enjoying our adventures. Yes, we do have one, called Halls Gap. Hope you enjoy that one, too. Deano.
